...intend to research is how the modern religion of Mormonism shows the same qualities as a large cult. When we were choosing topics in class, we had discussed about a paper that a student intended to write about that was very broad. Does religion cause war? When we had to simplify that topic I wrote down something along the lines of why modern Mormons go on religious missions today? At home I had researched the means of why Mormonism is the only religion that continues to spread its works around and so on. But in most of my research a lot of associations of cults and secret groups kept popping up on my screen. Looking into these articles and conspiracies, I found small relationships of Mormonism and cults like forms of practice. What I found that really took my attention was the tie of Mormonism and politics. Fascinating conspiracies of cult-like ideas root from the election of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. The issue of religion itself is included into the constitution and has many controversial issues within. My topic of religion matters because it is a very sensitive word that takes on a lot of meaning. People dedicate their lives for faith and frown upon certain human interactions like love and controls it. I chose this because I do not understand religion and for some reason it is wrong to question it. My basic research question stems from Mormonism and cults. Other key words when researching are religion and politics and cult definitions. From all of my research that...

...Developing Research Proposals Handout Prepared by Ted Zorn, University of Waikato This is a handout I often give to students when I expect them to provide a research proposal for a course project. That is, it’s intended for fairly brief proposals, not a prospectus for a masters or doctoral thesis. It gives students an example of the sort of thing I want, plus some commentary (in italics) about what I’m expecting in each section. I sometimes change the particular example given, in order to encourage them to think about particular kinds of projects. For instance, the example provided here was used in a Leadership Communication course. I’ve used the same format, but a different research project example, for a course on Organisational Communication Technology. Feel free to adapt it to your purposes. Research Proposal Proposed Research Topic: Purposes: Alvesson (1996) claims that a situational approach enables leadership to be viewed and studied as “a practical accomplishment” (p. 476) rather than starting with a conceptualisation of leadership as whatever the appointed leader does. This approach seems particularly well suited to self-managing teams (SMTs), in which leadership is presumably shared. In this project, I will explore how members of a self-managing team enact leadership in their regular team meetings. In particular, I will focus on how SMT members influence the direction of the team as well as the relationships and identities of individual members and the identity...

...General Introduction This THESIS LECTURE NOTE & GUIDE is meant to teach MBA students on the rudiments of research method as a major course in the MBA programme and at the same time serve as a guide and to assist them to successfully complete their Research Methods Examinations and thesis project without difficulty. HOW ARE TOPICS SELECTED OR DEVELOPED? You should not be surprised if a professor gives you a perturbed look or cringes when you tell him/her that you have no idea of what you would like to pursue as a thesis topic. Why might your professor react this way? Because there are potentially hundreds of topics or research questions that can be pursued and your professor is anticipating your next question, which is usually, "Do you have any suggestions?" In addition, the topic is one that is chosen by you, not your advisor, and thus, the responsibility of constructing possible topics is the student's. In essence, your thesis topic should not just be chosen and that's it! The topic must be explored, developed, and assessed. Is it an original one? Is the purpose to replicate previous research? Is the research feasible in terms of access to data, cost, time, and effort? Does anybody care about the topic you have in mind? If you have a topic in mind you might ask yourself these questions: --Does it suit your interests and possible career objectives? --Does it fit your background and experience? --Are you willing to commit the next 6 months (or longer)...

Vol. 33, Iss. 11/12; pg. 1082 Source type: Periodical ISSN/ISBN: 03090566 Abstract (Document Summary) In recent research on service quality it has been argued that the relationship between perceived service quality and service loyalty is an issue which requires conceptual and empirical elaboration through replication and extension of current knowledge. A study focuses on the refinement of a scale for measuring service loyalty dimensions and the relationships between dimensions of service quality and these service loyalty dimensions. The results of an empirical study of a large sample of customers from four different service industries suggest that four dimensions of service loyalty can be identified: purchase intentions, word-of-mouth...

...RESEARCH TOPIC PROPOSAL Research Topic: How to manage interpersonal conflict and how to resolve conflict Possible research sources: Essentially, academic research is based on primary sources and original material from the field by an expert; therefore, it is crucially important to search for legitimate sources on the legitimate database. In addition to usual databases and reference sources, I also consider the following materials as Possible Research Sources, which would best fit the needs of my research paper, and the end product that I am working towards. • Books and Encyclopedias • Scholarly Journals and online databases • Videos, radio and Internet Reasons for choosing this topic: My primary reason for choosing this topic is to meet the requirement of the research assignment. The assignment requirement is that the research paper must be based on any aspect of communication and identity formation or human interaction. The secondary reason that I choose this topic is that I am interested in, knowing about, the nature of conflict, how interpersonal conflicts are being managed and conflict resolution. The Planned approach: definitely, once I declared my research topic, I will start searching for relevant sources on library catalog such as: Scholarly Journals and periodical, primary vs. secondary sources, books, and other documents. Next I will Group, Document and organize Information according to its relative importance. Subsequent to organizing...

Over the years I have received great support from a large number of people. I wish to thank everyone who has helped me to make and complete this interesting journey. I would like to start with my supervisor, Professor Aino Halinen-Kaila. She encouraged me to begin working on the dissertation in the first place. She has always given me great freedom in my work, and has supported my occasionally unconventional research decisions. The numerous projects and discussions with her have really been an intellectual joy and also helped me to make progress. Aino, thank you: I would not be here without your contribution. I was honored to have Professor Thomas Ritter from the Copenhagen Business School and Professor Olli Kuivalainen of the University of Lappeenranta as the official examiners of my thesis. They gave me valuable and constructive comments on the manuscript. My colleagues have given me great support in completing the thesis. I wish to express my gratitude to Professor Rami Olkkonen, Professor (emer.)
