...Student success can be defined in a number of different ways. Some students may choose to define it as having a perfect 4.0 GPA while other students may choose to define it as being the most popular student in class. While I believe that both of the aforesaid definitions have some degree of merit, I do not believe that either of them encapsulates the true meaning of student success. To me, student success is best defined as the empowerment of the students around me. The intrinsic value of empowerment extends far beyond knowing that you have helped a few individuals obtain confidence and courage within themselves. When you successfully empower an individual, the overall impact that you have on the community extends far beyond just two people....

...I have always been greatly involved in clubs and organizations at school, and I plan on continuing that in college at FSU. One organization that I am sure that I want to be a part of is the SGA- Student Government Association. I have been involved in Student Council for my entire high school career. I thoroughly enjoy representing the student body to make the campus a better place, so I hope to be able to do so in college, also. I know I would enjoy the experience of being an executive officer of this association, and hope to be one. I would also love to be a part of the College of Business Student Leadership Council (CoB SLC). I intend to enroll in the business school, and given that I love to lead, I feel as if this council would be a perfect fit for me. All of these aspects in my life have led me to FSU, and I can't wait to potentially be the loudest and proudest Seminole in the class of...

The typical day of a student is as follows: wake up, go to school for seven hours, (usually) go to practice for two hours, go home, and then do homework until they can no longer keep their eyes open. When walking through the halls, many fatigued students can be seen. Recently, students have been putting homework over their own health, which is utterly astonishing. Teachers expect their homework to be done for the next day the night that it is assigned. ...The goal of this research paper is to show the impact that demographic factors have on student retention at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach). Our school has tried its best to improve its retention numbers these past ten years by implementing diverse programs geared towards keeping students in school. These programs were built using data provided by the Institutional Research department (IR) on our campus; the IR wishes to see whether student variables can predict retention. This document analyses the data collected from the IR and recent research related to individual student demographic characteristics such as gender, nationality and majors. I was born in San Francisco but raised in Senegal, a francophone West African country. I attended a French school and a bilingual one during my time there because my parents wanted me to be fluent and proficient in their languages (my mother’s first language is English and my dad’s is French). My background can only be beneficial into conducting such a research. I, for one, definitely understand the repercussions that demographics can have on a society or, in this case, a University. Anyone that knows a little bit about our campus can give at least three facts about it: the ratio of boy to girl is pretty big (5 to 1); the two main colleges are the Aviation and Engineering ones(76% altogether); and there are lots of international students (16% of student body). The retention rate at Embry-Riddle is 79%. The demographics...

...to choose your research topic, pick one that interests you. The last thing you want is to end up spending hours learning and writing about a subject in which you have zero interest. You will find the whole process much more enjoyable if you actually care about what you are doing. [1] * Be sure to stay within the guidelines you are given by your teacher or professor. For example, if you are free to choose a topic but the general theme must fall under human biology, do not write your essay on plant photosynthesis. * Stick with topics that are not overly complicated, especially if the subject is not something you plan to continue studying. There's no need to make things harder on yourself! 1. 2 Locate resources. Before you begin writing, read up on the subject of your essay. It is best to gather all your sources and review them before attempting to begin your paper so that you can have things clearly planned out when you actually start writing. You can find information on your topic of choice through a number of different types of resources. Some examples are discussed below. * Specialty books; these can be found at your local public or school library. A book published on your topic is a great resource and will likely be one of your most reliable options for finding quality information. They also contain lists of references where you can look for more information. * Academic journals; these are periodicals devoted to scholarly research on a specific...

...Specialist’s Role on Students’ Attitudes and Performance in the Research Process Abstract Many high school students at all achievement levels fail in the research process due to the frustration and anxiety that arise from their inability to efficiently locate and manipulate resources. This frustration causes them to perform poorly and in some cases to abandon the process. At the same time, the media specialist’s training and expertise are under-used by both teachers and students. All classes of male and female 11th grade students of all ability levels will be subjected to two different styles of bibliographic instruction prior to beginning their research papers. At the time the assignment is given they will be given a questionnaire that measures their attitudes at various stages of the process. A correlation between attitudes and grades is hypothesized. The conclusion drawn from such a correlation is that an active bibliographic instruction role reduces students’ frustration and anxiety in the research process and thus, positively influences grades. Introduction To address the problem of failure in the high school research paper process, the method of bibliographic instruction is one of several factors that can reasonably be examined. If BI is, indeed, a relevant factor, it may then be postulated to extend its influence to other areas that may have a contributory role in students’ success or failure...

...1. It definitely isn’t ethical to sell a product that is not completely effective. Nevertheless, many companies around the world sell products that do not necessarily comply with what the offer, or with what is stated on their labels or their ads. I always think of hand soap that says “antibacterial” on their label but they just make foam. To me, that’s not ethical, but it is definitely profitable. 2. I do think it is unethical to negatively influence cultural ideals through advertising, but don’t think it is unethical to promote products based on cultural norms as long as they are effective, and they do not denigrate people. I think it would be very difficult to successfully enter a market and have growing profits if a company is offering products that do not abide to their cultural norms. In fact, many multinationals offer different products based on cultural preferences. For instance. McDonald’s have a different menu in China that the one the have in the U.S. 3. I think the fair and lovely advertising is demeaning to women. It influences peoples mind in a way that it makes dark skin women to loose their dignity for not being valued and respected. Showing in an ad a woman with darker skin, locking professional opportunities or personal satisfaction is more than likely going to lower a person’s self esteem if they fall into that category. 6. A better promotional program will be to show in their ads that their products can enhance a woman’s beauty, since it...
