Research
There are many uses for research within an organization. Whether the research is for marketing purposes are customer satisfaction each organization conducts research and uses it to help benefit the organization.
Where I currently work research is conducted by the company to learn about the unknown. As a general rule, research is used by gathering information and processing the information to find out about an unknown variable. In the case where I work the company uses this information not only to learn new things that are unknown but also to ensure that the company is moving in the right direction. The company I work for uses the research it gathers to make good business decisions.
The organization I work for uses research that in conducted by a third party organization that is hired and paid by my organization to find out what the next big thing will be in the television industry and also to find out whether or not customers are happy with the technology they are using. Also, there is research done on whether there is any improvements the customers feel could help improve on the technology they are using.
The organization I work for could be more effective in the research than they currently are by simply following some things that I have noticed while working within the organization that they do not appear to currently being doing. First, I think it would be wise for the organization to study competitor’s ads and sales for the same type of services offered. Sure it’s great to feel so confident in your product that you feel there is no need to do this. However, in my opinion there are two main reasons for studying your competitor’s ads.
By studying your competitors more you can find out what’s already working within your industry. In some cases, if the organization feels something is already working they can beat out the competitor. Second, it’s equally important to have some differentiation to what the organization is sayings to what the competitors are saying. The competitive intelligence is important because it can help the organization develop a pitch for sales that is unique and be both better and different.
For example, while I was surfing my company’s web site the other day I noticed that both our company and the competitor were stating the identical thing in terms of being able to provide the most television channels at the most affordable price. This is where research is crucial to ensure that there is differentiation and also is an area I feel demonstrates my point on how the organization I work for could improve.
An area that the company I work for does very well in is customer feedback. I think that although the company does well in this area almost any process can also be refined and improved. One suggestion here is taking the idea of customer satisfaction surveys by internet and phone to a new level. I think if my organization were to create a web blog were customers could share their experiences this would be extremely powerful and useful. This would really help with research regarding new product launches.
For example, it is extremely empowering for a business and makes customers feels great when they hear that a product was improved as a direct result of their feedback on the blog. A blog is also a very low stress manner for customers to feel free to express themselves and is a great way I feel my organization could tap into the minds of its customer base.
Overall, the organization I work for does a great job on managing its resources and utilizing research to improve decision making that benefits the business and its customers. While research is the key to decision making, it does not always need to be elaborate to be effective. Sometimes small efforts, such as doing a quick search on the Internet, will provide the needed information. However, for most organizations; such as the one I work for there are times when more elaborate research work is needed and understanding the right way to conduct research, whether performing the work themselves or hiring someone else to handle it, can increase the effectiveness of these projects.

...Week 1 Research Paper BIS/220 Colette Gardner Week 1 Research Paper Advances in ethical issues that arouse from the Children’s Internet Protection Act were Internet use for children in schools and libraries. Children needed to be blocked from the obscenities found on the Internet. The act also is permits for the low cost of Internet access for schools and libraries using the governments E-rate program. The E-rate program has several parameters that need to be met before the disbursements of funds. These parameters need to be met solely by the school or library. The parameter of the act states that web filtering and monitoring over the children must be in place prior to a school or library to receive funding from the E-rate program. These filters block offensive material on the Internet such as child pornography and obscene pictures. The schools also need to have two certifications. The Internet safety policies for the organization must include monitoring of activities and must provide education to minors about appropriate online Internet behavior. The ethical issue arose from this act when government was giving low-cost internet access to schools and they were not held accountable for the material being viewed by the students. The Do Not Call Implementation Act was for just the same as the previous act. It was formed so the public would not be solicited on the telephone. This...

Pt1420 Week 1 Research Paper

...Larry Smith March 28, 2015 PT1420 Week 1 assignment COBOL, is a compiled English-like computer programming language designed for business use. It is imperative, procedural and, since 2002, object-oriented. COBOL is primarily used in business, finance, and administrative systems for companies and governments. In 1997, Gartner Group estimated that there were a total of 200 billion lines of COBOL in existence, which ran 80% of all business programs. COBOL is still widely used in legacy applications deployed on mainframe computers, such as large-scale batch and transaction processing jobs. But due to its declining popularity and the retirement of experienced COBOL programmers, programs are being migrated to new platforms, rewritten in modern languages or replaced with software packages. Most programming in COBOL is now purely to maintain existing applications. COBOL was designed in 1959 by the Conference on Data Systems Languages (CODASYL) and was largely based on previous programming language design work by Grace Hopper, commonly referred to as "the (grand)mother of COBOL". It was created as part of a US Department of Defense effort to create a portable programming language for data processing. Intended as a temporary stopgap, the Department of Defense promptly forced computer manufacturers to provide it, resulting in its widespread adoption. It was standardized in 1968 and has since been revised four times. Expansions include support for structured and object-oriented programming...

Com/172 Week 1 Research Plan

...Media has the power to manipulate the way children see themselves, dress, talk, and even how they decide to live their lives. The aspect of my topic that I plan to focus on in my writing and research is broadcasting media’s impact, parents concern with broadcasting media, and different type of content in television shows and cartoons then and now. For example, a child from the 1950’s did not watch much television; children were never exposed to adult content such as sex, language, alcohol, drugs and violence. While a child who is growing up now in the 21st have internet, newest technology and gadgets, and is more exposed to sex, drugs, alcohol, and violence. What I have to learn from this research project is that maybe change is not such a bad thing. Things are changing and not all of them are for the worst. Another thing I have to learn is that things were different in the 1950’s because things were perceived a different way than they are now. The purpose of my research and writing project is to better understand the beauty as well as the ugly about each different era. The process I will follow in this research and writing project is to choose my area of focus, seek instructor guidance, conduct research, create a tentative thesis, construct a comprehensive outline, and writing my research...

Sci 241 Week 1 Vitamin Research Paper

...Why are vitamins vital to human’s existence? Vitamins are required by organisms in limited amounts. Vitamins cannot be fully synthesized by the body in the amounts that the organisms require. It is impossible for these organisms to obtain these so they need to be obtained by diet. Vitamins have a specific function in the body that keeps the specific part running at peak performance. If one of the 13 vitamins didn’t exist, humans may not have existed. Furthermore, without plants there would be no life for humans. My knowledge on vitamins was they didn’t have severe complications when we didn’t consume enough of one or more. Everyone knows what the basic function of these vitamin are or at least they should. In my head if you were to get to little of this vitamin I figured that my eyesight might decline a little or maybe I have a hard time staying focused or thinking. I had a general idea of what foods contained what Vitamins but I lacked the knowledge about how much of these vitamins we need. Little did I know that deficiencies or toxicities in either one of these 13 vitamins can have catastrophic complications with one’s health. For example, let’s say you are allergic to nuts, fish, gluten and you rarely eat meat. Not a big deal is what you would think but it may cause abnormal central nervous system, neuritis, convulsions and microcytic hypochromic anemia. The Vitamin that is lacking here is Vitamin B6 which is needed for the immune system, nervous system, and red blood cell...
