...Resolving Ethical Business Challenges Business Ethics Week 1 Everest University Amy Childers Resolving Ethical Business Challenges 1. What are the potential ethical issues faced by Acme Corporation? To me it seems that Frank is bribing Otis in order to with gifts in order to keep him as a buyer for Thermocare. Frank is thinking about himself and the praise and bonuses he is getting and really not focusing on the company and all that could result in the end. I think if other buyers knew this was going on it would probably hurt the company. Gifts should be given to everybody not just one person and in this scenario Otis seems to be the only one getting the personal gifts. That is probably why Frank is doing so well in the company and moving up faster than anyone else. Amber which is his boss is aware of the situation and she is covering up for Frank. Amber did invite everyone to Las Vegas for a Thank you party except Otis and his wife who went to Cancun. Not to mention the Adult Entertainment Club. To me this is acting unethically in the business. Amber’s ethical issues should be questioned as well. 2. What should Acme do if there is a desire to make ethics a part of its core organizational values? I think Acme should make sure to lay out all the rules and communicate them clearly to all of their staff. Also, let them know there will be consequences for those who don’t follow and abide by the rules for any reason. The main thing to let them know is no special...

...BUS220 Ethical Business Challenge Chapter 5 Zyedego faces legal issues by hiring truck drivers such as if the employee has any infractions while on the job, which would cost the company money, the company would be responsible for that and whatever the insurance that covered the employee or company would not be willing to pay, such as in this instant, when there is a natural disaster, and insurance companies are not able to pay full claims. They also face ethical issues from the families of these or the employees themselves if something were to happen to the employee while on the job, whether the work was being required or not, that insurance companies may not be able to cover anything that happened, which could ultimately put that persons family at a great loss as well. Both of these mentioned issues could potentially have lawsuits against the company as well in worse case scenarios. I believe that Peter should recommend to Gwyn that unless she was able to get Dana to provide the correct documents required for her job, that they would try to hold her position until she could, without pay, or give her the option to go ahead and go to work for a competitor and offer her the severance pay. During a time that the company is not able to provide complete coverage if something were to happen to her on the job, and being that she is pregnant, could cost the company more money, especially if the insurance company required for her to prove her citizenship before being able to pay...

...Christian Lewis- ECPI Unit 1: Resolving Ethical Business Challenges Sunday December 13, 2015 BUS/222 – Dr. Armando Salas-Amaro 1. What are the potential ethical issues faced by Acme Corporation? One of the most important issues that businesses must face are integrity and trust. Conducting business affairs with as much honesty and treating everyone as fairly as possible. In this situation I believe that Frank the salesperson is enticing Otis the buyer with perks to pick their product so that he could get the contract that Acme Corporation had been trying to get for so long. By Frank offering tickets to games or vacations he was able to get that contract. Sure, that seems enticing and it seems like Frank is building a relationship with Otis. However, if you really look at the big picture, Frank is actually using a tactic to bring Otis closer in to close the contract. Frank is not using the product he is making the decision to make the deal sweeter with extra perks. This is not ethical at all to do business this way. Yes you want to make your clients happy but you can make them happy using your company’s values and your company’s mission. It is not ethical to use gifts to get what you want in business. 2. What should Acme do if there is a desire to make ethics a part of its core organizational values? If Acme wants to make ethics a part of its values then they will definitely have to stop offering gifts just to get contracts. I mean you definitely want to make...

Explain your answer. After read “Resolving ethical business challenges”, John faced with the ethical dilemma. An ethical dilemma is a debate between two moral principles, where two sides can argue about what is wrong or what is right. This is because John borrowed shares and sold them at his firm, BS (the Memphis branch offices of Bull Steins brokerage firm), when the stock falls, John purchased those shares for the lower price and he can pocketed the difference. John’s portfolio had increased a lot after doing this. Therefore he call some of his buddies to do the same thing using money from his big client which he called SHARKS. b) Discuss the unethical behaviour in the case using the four factors on the left of the ethical decision making framework in Figure 5.1 on p. 128 of the text. ...Legal and Ethical Issues Lori Hall LAW/421 December 18, 2012 Corey Frost International Legal and Ethical Issues When one company decides to take legal action against a foreign business partner in another company it is important to not only have an understanding of their local laws but also cultural differences, customs, and language barriers. All of these items could present possible barriers to resolving legal disputes associated with international transactions. Any company doing business abroad must be mindful of the pitfalls of international business, ensuring that the contract entered into is legally enforceable, the contract must protect the company’s interests in the foreign country against all eventualities, knowing that possible disagreements and disputes are common in the international trade arena. This paper will outline the legal, ethical, and cultural issues of doing business abroad. Issues Involved In Resolving Legal Disputes First, business contracts must clearly specify which laws will govern the business decisions that will be made, whether it is American law, local country laws, or popular international convention. One should note that international laws are broad terms establishing a series of customs that countries and businesses agree to adhere to when dealing with each other and that international laws are binding; however, largely based on reciprocal behavior rather than legal sanctions (Melvin, 2011). Some issues involved in resolving legal disputes...

The Malaysian system poses a socio-ethical dilemma especially with the giving and receipts of bribes by appointed employees as well as the exchange of favors (or request thereof) between government officials and businesses (Inkpen, 2010). The legalities of such operational antecedents can have adverse international legal implications from enacted laws such as the UK Bribery Act and US FCPA ("Arnold & Porter Advisory," March 2012) on organizations involved. Analysis Major social, ethical or legal challenges As a foreign company, Jextra faces a host of social, ethical and legal challenges in its operations. The social culture of Malaysia does not have a strict demarcation between business and social relations. Thus, employees like Arif Alam, a Category Manager (CM) of Jextra Store, combine family relations and employment together by enlisting his father-in-law (allegedly) as agent. The collectivist nature of the society also makes the other employees who might have a fair knowledge of the corrupt practices of the CMs reluctant to come forward. The same cultural view that regards business and society as...

The first issue is with the Mayor of Klang (a town located about 30 km west of Malaysia’s capital) who is willing to make it possible for Jextra to expand to Klang if Jextra would finance a new primary school. The second issue has to do with the job performance of Jextra’s top-performing buyer of fruits and vegetables, Arif Alam who maybe taking gifts or accepting bribes which is against the Jextra Business Conduct Code. Chong also suspects Alam of a scheme between Alam and his father-in-law whereas the father-in-law ran a trading agency that potential suppliers would have to go through to “establish contact to Jextra Stores.” • What are the major social, ethical, or legal challenges that Jextra faces in operating in Malaysia? What are the ethical and legal issues at stake in this scenario? The ethical issues would be not using a woman character to bring in more business. Plus if you have to buy credits to advance to different levels than that is an ethical issue as well. The legal issues would be making sure that the game is up to the right standards for every country that wants to buy the product. Like the internet is ready for the full nudity but only for purchase for adult users only and want it more lifelike. The U.S. market is not ready for the full nudity so that version needs to be toned down a bit so it will sell better. The Mexican market likes it if the violence was toned down a bit. The Taiwanese market wants more graphics in the violence and the nudity areas. 2. What are Karl’s options? Karl’s options to make the company, Bounce, a lot of money by making sure that everyone is aware of all the things that need to be changed for all the different types of markets. If Karl makes all the different changes than the company will be making lots of money due to making the changes to make the customers happy. ...Why do ethical dilemmas occur? How do you resolve such dilemmas? Illustrate. Your initial response is due by Thursday. Once you have posted your response, periodically read through the posts of other classmates during the week and comment on at least two. Ethical dilemmas occur in situations when a clear ethical resolution doesn’t exist. Instead of a clear ethical resolution, there is conflict in the decision making process as to what choice creates the more ethical outcome. Resolving an ethical dilemma takes more time and effort to thoroughly examine the situation and all ramifications of either choice of outcome. An example would be an employer at a small business asking his/her Accounts Payable employee to enter suspicious-looking handwritten invoices from an unknown vendor into the system for immediate payment. This is a challenge because the employee doesn’t want to be considered “insubordinate” by their employer, but at the same time the employee knows that something about the invoices and vendor just don’t add up. That situation has two possible outcomes: the invoices are entered and paid, even though the employee knows the action is wrong, or the employee refuses to process the transactions. Neither outcome is a clearly ethical because either the employee may be participating in fraudulent transactions that may hurt the company or the employee has gone against the word of his/her employer. If there isn’t anyone else in the company, besides the employer that...

(2013) Business Ethics: Ethical decision making and cases. (9th edition) Mason OH: Cengage). Acme should check and see if all the rules are put out and make sure the personnel get them and understand them. They need to provide a rule for giving gifts to customers. Getting into bribery offer that Otis had for Frank could have been prevented if Frank did not accept it. Being that Frank accepted the offer is going to cause problems in the future between the two.
