Resorts World Sentosa Dolphins Case

...A Marine Life Park (MLP) whereby more than 100,000 living exhibits of marine life will is slated to start operations in 2012, at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). The aim of this MLP, as cited by RWS, is to ‘enrich public understanding of marine conservation’. It also wishes to serve as a public showcase for education and research of marine wildlife. The MLP houses 25 indo-pacific bottlenose dolphins as well. There will also be a whale shark exhibit at the MLP. However, before the opening of the MLP, there have already been issues and concerns being raised by the public and some animal welfare organizations, with regards to the captivity of these dolphins and the whale sharks. As animal captivity has been a controversial issue over the past years, an issue that undoubtedly concerns the public and animal welfare organizations (such as SPCA and ACRES) is that RWS seems to only be bringing these dolphins for amusement to the public, henceforth generating more profits when RWS’s dolphin shows become popular. The question is – is RWS doing anything about the public’s comments towards its actions? Is RWS really excessively importing these bottlenose dolphins for the money or for the greater good of its species? Another issue that the public has with RWS housing the whale shark exhibit is that whale sharks, which are being held in captivity, have low survival rates due to various reasons, such as limited captive space, stress from being unaccustomed to captive life and so on. Surprisingly...

Its diverse business portfolio and its strong liquidity position place it at an edge over its peers. Genting's weak operational performance and declining returns could be of concern. The company's growth could be restricted by factors such as competition and economic situation in UK. However, the company could stand to gain from RWS, its resort project in Sentosa (Singapore). Strengths Strong liquidity position The company's current ratio was 4.82 at the end of fiscal year 2009. This was above the S&P 500 companies average* of 1.46. A higher than S&P 500 companies average* current ratio indicates that the company is in a strong financial position and is more capable of meeting its short term obligations than other companies in the S&P 500 index. INTRODUCTION Sentosa offers a wide scoop of entertainment and caters to the needs of all sorts of people. This holiday resort island can be reached by air, land or sea. The attraction that I felt was fun and interesting was the 3D cineblast and 4D magix. Sentosa 3D Cineblast presents a thrilling 4-dimensional motion-simulated ride. It also combines the virtual ‘roller coaster’ rides with high-definition wide-screen projection. As for the 4D Magix, it presents an interactive movie experience with 4-dimensional digital effects.  This multi-million Sentosa 4D Magix Theatre is the first in Southeast Asia. Using a state-of-the-art digital projection system, movies come to life right off the big screen. Subsequently, these attractions were located in the vicinity of our place of stay. These are the reasons as to why we chose these two attractions to compare between with for our assignment. In this assignment, we are required to come out with a questionnaire to collect selective data between the attractions we chose. Our data achieved...

Walt Disney Bio

...Walt Disney Raise your hand if you’ve heard of Disney world, Disney land or the Disney channel. Everyone has, what people don’t know much about is the man behind it all Walt Disney. Today I’m going to tell you about Walt Disney’s life, and how everything Disney came to be. His full name is Walter Elias Disney, he born on December 5, 1901 in Illinois. He was 1 of 5 children, and from a very young age Walt knew he loved to draw, At 7 years old Walt started drawing and selling his pictures to neighbors. Shortly after this, His family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Walt became fascinated with trains, He worked at a train station selling newspapers and snacks to travelers. He liked trains so much that when he grew older he had a train scaled down to size be able to fit in his backyard. In high school he took multiple drawing a photography classes, he was also a cartoonist for the school paper. At 16 he dropped out of high school to join the army for WW1 but got rejected because he was too young. Even though he was rejected from the army he was able to join the red-cross and they shipped him off to France to drive an ambulance, he was so obsessed with drawing that he covered the ambulance he was driving in all of his drawings. After the war ended Walt returned to Kansas City and became an advertising cartoonist. In 1923 Walt moved to California near his older brother Roy. They had a very limited budget but with $750.00 they started their own production company in the backside...

...expanding the employment markets to possibly worldwide versus to the central locations in the United Stated they are presently in.  Disney is always marketing their products to cater to small children's and family but because the cost of food, gas, electrical and employees is on a rise Disney price has change to reflect these increases.  I think one of the best ways for Disney to move in and take over the family industry is to offer special packages 4 months out of the year that only reflected the school schedule so parents can plan accordingly. Walt Disney had an innovated ideal when he choose to come up with the theme parks that currently see more than 17 million people a year(WDW, 2008).  One of Disney's themes to their part is "It's a Small World After All", which is mainly the reason for their success.  So with all the success that Disney has had they have been able meets the needs of their customers, their expectations and their perceptions while allowing the company to grow in the right direction(Disney, nd, pg 2).  Strategy Review and Evaluation With the proposed focus on creating the company in a new market with new clients this must be a top priority for the company.  All economic terms must be proposed in order for a success and a simple evaluation must be conducted on a large amount of data to have accurate numbers.  With all new acquisition they...

Disney World

...Many people who were opposed to the Disney’s America theme park were not thinking long term. I believe that they did not realize how much and how quickly times can change. More and smaller country towns are becoming populated. The same reason that small towns located outside the D.C. metro area are becoming extinct. Areas like Haymarket Virginia, which barely used to be a blip on the radar is now a community that holds over 100,000 new residential homes .The group of environmentalist that were so adamant to get rid of Disney, a company that only wanted to commemorate the History of the United States, now has to deal with new and pricier residential homes. I think that as a manger, of any company, I would have tried to let residents of Haymarket and surrounding communities know the long term effects of this business venture. Things like, if Disney Corporation does not build here someone else will and not only will they build but that site will not recognize the legacy of American history. Looking back at all this, I think that either way, Virginia and Disney are better off. For reasons like, no matter what traffic in Northern Virginia is and will always be there. I don’t think that Americans are completely ready to have a park that is dedicated to the hardships of its people. For Disney, with having over 17 million people who visited the Magic Kingdom in Florida in 2007 not being in Virginia keeps the doors open to Disneyland and Disneyworld open to new adventures while still...

Tsa Terrorizes Wheelchair-Bound

...(NaturalNews) Serving as yet another reminder of just how ridiculous the "national security" theater is in America today, a U.S. Transportation Security Administration screener at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago has been caught on tape patting down a three-year-old in a wheelchair, and swabbing the boy's body, cast, and chair for explosives. Russia Today reports that the boy and his parents, grandparents, and two siblings were on their way to Walt Disney World in Florida when a TSA screener decided to pull the boy aside. As captured by the boy's father, the screener, who in all fairness was gentle and kind to the boy during the process, proceeded to pat the boy down, lift up his shirt, and swab his person and wheelchair for explosives. Visibly shaken throughout the entire experience, the young boy is seen on camera shaking and scared while his father, who was filming the incident, repeatedly reassures his son that everything will be fine. However, the boy's father was not allowed to get near his son and comfort him during the process, and was reportedly refused by TSA screeners from even holding the boy's hand. You can watch a video clip of the incident at the following link: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/321444 "My little boy wanted me to come over to hold his hand and give him a hug. He was trembling with fear," said the father to the Toronto Sun. "I was told I could NOT touch him during this process. Instead, we had to pretend this (procedure) was...

Favorite Place to Travel

...away from home and the traditional family vacation spot. During our vacation there we experience a lot of shopping spots, great restaurants and last but not least Disney World. We take our family there every year and we always have a wonderful time. But our favorite place to relax and visit while in Orlando is to stay at our vacation home. We plan and prepare excitedly for the special time to spend with the entire family during the kids’ yearly spring break. The adults have just as much fun as the kids. Even though, we have a huge family to accommodate in one house for a week we are anticipating the family memories we are making. During our family vacation the ladies always plan a special day of the week to go shopping. Of course, a vacation isn’t a vacation unless we do some shopping and site seeing. We love going to flea markets and malls looking for some great gifts for our family and ourselves. While the women are enjoying an evening out shopping the men are home grilling and watching the kids have fun in the pool. To wrap up a long day of shopping, we treat ourselves to a very nice dinner. Last but not least, THEME PARKS!!! Our family begins the day with an early rise to begin our adventure to as many theme parks we can handle for a day. My personal favorite is Disney World. I love the fairytale atmosphere where everyone can be a kid again. Next stop is Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios where the fun really begins. Water rides, 3D rollercoaster...

A Brawl in Mickey's Back Yard

...September 29, 2014 In the study case of “A Brawl in Mickey’s Backyard” there were issues between a development company called SunCal and the world famous Disney Land Resort. SunCal wanted to develop affordable housing so that the employees of Disneyland could be closer to work and not have to pay an outrageous amount of money for housing close by which Disneyland opposed. When billion dollar companies have employees that make low income, should the companies be helpful to ensure that their employees have affordable housing close to their place of employment? In this paper I will discuss this as well as determine who the relevant market and nonmarket stakeholders are in this situation? I will also state what possible solutions to this dispute I think might emerge from dialogue between SunCal and its stakeholders? This case study was quiet interesting to me. Disneyland makes billions of dollars a year due to their employee’s hard work and determination. According to our text; “Walt Disney, the company’s founder, had famously spelled out the resort’s vision when he said “I don’t want the public to see the world they live in while they’re in Disneyland. I want them to feel they’re in another world.” (Lawrence, A. T. & Weber, J. 2011) Because of this so called “vision” Walt Disney had, affordable housing could not be built close by the resort by SunCal. Of course things like this sadden me because of the low income employee’s. It is my opinion that companies should always take good...
