Responding to the Spirit

John 16: 13-16
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. 16 “A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”

Someone has defined the word sanctification as a process whereby the Spirit of God, takes the word of God, and makes us like the son of God a midst all the circumstances we face as creatures hear on this earth. Jesus says in the gospel “the spirit of truth will guide you into all truth” and whatever the spirit hears Jesus Christ is relaying the message to his children. We are to be people of the word, we are to read the word, meditate upon it, memorize it, love it, and most of all apply it. There is no growth in Christ likeness without personal attention to the word of God in our lives.

Ephesians 1 15-18
15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.

Paul was praying for the church to look to the Father of glory whom is Christ. He was praying for their eyes to be enlightened, for the words of God to be illuminated, for the words in the bible to light up and have an

...Who is the Holy Spirit? He is a real Being who came to live within us Christ's followers after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended back to heaven (Acts 2). The Holy Spirit is equal in every way to God the Father, and God the Son. He is considered to be the third member of the Godhead. And Jesus said “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matt. 28:18-20) God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And all the divine attributes written of the Father and the Son are equally...

Differences in Islam and Christianity

...which authority is needed. We also are subject to authority in all things. Christianity and Islam are more different then similar in the source of authority. In Christianity, the founder is Jesus, human and divine. Christianity follows the bible, which is the collection of sacred writings of the religion and includes the Old and New Testament. Under Christianity there are the Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Catholics follow the pope, which differs from the Eastern Orthodox as mentioned in The Council of Constantinople “And in the Spirit, the holy, the lordly and life-giving one, proceeding forth from the father, the one who spoke through the prophets.” On the other hand the Eastern Orthodox follows Christ, and does not accept of what the Council of Constantinople states, saying in the 3rd Council of Toledo, “Directs that the Creed according to the Council of Constantinople be accepted but that the statement on the Holy Spirit be amended to read…” lastly comes the Protestant, they trust in the testimony of scriptures. They do not follow the Pope or Councils alone, believes in captive word of God as it is mentioned in Luther, “Unless I am convinced by the testimony of Scriptures or of evident reason- for...

Schleiermacher's Who I Am?

...the fullest union of the divine with human nature in the person of Christ, given to the community of believers through the Holy Spirit. His attention to the work of Christ creates within our self-consciousness an emotional perspective of God. Schleiermacher’s Christology places Christ’s teachings at the center of his approach. Christ’s divinity for Schleiermacher consists that the God-consciousness is the active source in his life and within the Christian community. HE suggests the Bible is not divinely inspired rather written by people who were inspired by the work of Christ and the church’s experience with Christ. Focusing on the work of Christ and how his work moves believers to respond, Schleiermacher claims it is Christ’s example that provides people with the knowledge. He is redeemer. Our awareness of Christ is through our self-consciousness, or intuition. “All Christ’s activity, then proceeds from the being of God in him. And we know no divine activity except that of creation, which included that of preservation, or, conversely, that of...

...The Lord was in the still small voice - 1 Kings 19:12. In what other ways might we hear The Lord speaking? This overview considers the question set, possible ways to interpret it and the need to frame it within an Anglican course context that itself reflects rich, diverse practices of praising, listening to and hearing God. The title of this essay refers to Elijah’s two mountain top experiences on Carmel and Horeb that depict how God speaks in contrasting ways; through spectacular events and displays of power and through a whisper which both calms and rouses the heart. Moving quickly through the story in 1 Kings 19, we see Elijah who has stopped rain, challenge the false prophets of Baal and Asherath to reveal the true God in a fiery showdown on Mount Carmel. After he has ordered the death of the false prophets, Queen Jezebel threatens his life. Elijah, discouraged, flees into the wilderness heading for Mount Horeb (Sinai) a significant place of God’s voice and revelation to Moses, at a key moment in the history of Israel. Perhaps in journeying to Sinai, Elijah hoped for a fresh encounter and revelation of God. Unlike Moses’ experience, God does not partially unveil his countenance. Instead, Elijah hears a still small voice in his cave of refuge, with God asking him what he is doing there. We might imagine that after calling out to God and seeing him work through spectacular events that Elijah would be reassured of God’s infinite power and love. However he is human...

Video Games And Agression Psychology

...Accordingly, with this method researchers can explore the cause-and-effect relationships between video gaming and aggression (Nevid, 2015, p. 26). Using an EEG (electroencephalogram), the researchers would have the ability to observe the independent variables, “factors that are manipulated in an experiment” (Nevid, 2015, p. 26), by detecting the activity within the brain during and after interaction with video games. Thus, allowing for an understanding of how the brain is responding to the activity, the dependent variable (Nevid, 2015, p. 26). The Christian Life

...at The Christian Life and comparing it to what The Book of Romans has to say, we can see that the Spirit is integral to this process. According to Romans 8, this process is part of our sanctification. It is because of God’s grace that we have the ability to decide daily to die to ourselves and accept the opportunity to live as his children. As God’s children, often times we have very different perspectives. In many ways, these different views create debates. The controversy over the issue of God’s grace and gift of salvation, along with our response is one that should not be taken lightly. When looking at what the Apostle Paul says when he stated, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son,” it is obvious that this comment leaves individuals with unanswered questions. [1].What does Paul mean by the expression of “God foreknew?” How do we fathom the election of the “predestined” individuals who are saved and sanctified? And, how are we to understand God and his “foreknowledge” of our eternal security without knowing what it means to be righteous or “conformed to the likeness of his Son?” (Romans 8:29). It is my desire that as I proceed in the explanation of sanctification, that anyone who reads my excerpt will be able to understand the importance of what it means to be “conformed” to Christ. In knowing the role of the Spirit and our sonship as children of God, there will be no questions as to how this is obtained. [2]. In...

Applying common sense would be asking yourself questions like is this job attainable for me, is it appropriate for my skills, can is provide financially the way I need it too. I would almost put using common sense in the same category as just having your eyes open and being in tune with the jobs you qualify for and the opportunities that may exist. The Trinity and the Church

...differentiated in personhood that is understood in perichoretic co-activity. The universal church received God’s full self-revelation in the person and work of Jesus Christ, and God’s Holy Spirit communicates that revelation to us even today. To what purpose? It is in the universal Christian church that God creates a matrix of categorical understanding in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit. Within that Christian context, the universal church becomes the “Body of Christ” where all people from various Christian movements and denominations come together with the purpose of building a society based on relationship instead of wealth, power and glory. Why did God endure history, transform history, in the first place? The answer goes to the very heart of the Trinitarian relationship; a relationship humanity struggles to explain fully even two millennia after God’s full self-revelation, but humanity begins to understand when the community of faith reflects upon the whole scriptural witness. The passage in the Christian text that most effectively summarizes the relationship between the persons of the Trinity is found in 1 John 4:8, “God is love” (1 Jn. 4:8, New International Version). Love is the very being and essence of the Triune God, and that love constitutes the relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Here, I agree with Torrance (1996, p. 155) that "the divine relationships are intrinsic and constitutive; being a person is being in relationship." It might then seem that...

The Christian Life

...“The Christian Life” Presented to Dr. Jason Epps for BIBL 425 B10 (LUO)– Romans by tvwells Date October 5, 2015 Paul’s letters to the Romans was written to address specific situations, therefore, it is considered occasional and not systematic. “But in God’s providence, those situations are such that Paul ends up addressing issues of perennial theological significance.” [1] (Moo) One such issue is “The Christian Worldview:” our beliefs about creation, sin, salvation, eschatology, ethics, and theology. Creation “For the invisible things of Him [God] since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity” (Romans 1:20). In Romans 1:20 Paul teaches, every since the world was created God’s invisible qualities, His divine nature and power has been seen. His majesty, and his excellence is illuminated in the works of His creation. Paul echo’s a passage from Psalm 24, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” (Psalm 24:1-2) Paul delivers a warning to the unrighteous, stating, “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness who suppress the truth…” (v. 18) “ because God has made it plan, therefore, “you are without excuse.” (v. 20) He urges the unrighteous to learn from nature, and worship its creator, not His creation. El Presidente

...Shelou Baigan October 16,2013 Philo 106 1:00-2:30 I. Based on what we have discussed about the First Way of St. Aquinas, I learned that a being whose essence is to exist is called a necessary being. The universe contains only contingent beings. God would be the only necessary being because he exists. Dependent beings cannot cause themselves. They are dependent on their causes. If there is no independent being, then the whole chain of dependent beings is dependent on nothing and could not exist. But they do exist. Therefore there is an independent being. I learned that there must have been an unmoved mover (GOD) who first put things in motion. I learned that nothing can move itself. If every object in motion had a mover, then the first object in motion needed a mover. Therefore this first mover is the Unmoved Mover, called God. The chain of movers must have a first mover because nothing can move itself. The First Way is all about Motion. Motion means moving to any kind of change, not just change of place. So, if the whole chain of moving things had no first mover, it could not now be moving, as it is. If there were an infinite regress of movers with no first mover, no motion could ever begin, and if it never began, it could not go on and exist now. But it does go on, it does exist now. Therefore it began, and therefore there is a first mover. God is simple, without composition of...

Existential Obedience

...dissection of it into its component parts, the noting of its specific differences from other virtues, and its relationships to other virtues in the theological scheme of things. I want to regard obedience as it relates to living our life in union with and after the example of Christ, seeing obedience as a dynamic of our existence as creatures and children of God. The common denominator of anything said about obedience is this fact of Christian reality: obedience was the leitmotiv, the basic, underlying theme of Jesus as Son of God.   "Here I am to do your will, O God."   The Word was made flesh in obedience to God's plan, and Jesus as the incarnate word lived his life in obedience to the unfolding of that plan as revealed by the Spirit of God. Obedience provided the very sustenance of Jesus' life. He declared that the Father's Will was his very food and drink. He also described obedience to the Father as the criteria by which he qualified our love for Him: if you love me, keep my commandments.   From the example of Jesus during his existence on earth we can discern this: obedience is always an individual's response to God's Will. To be obedient as Jesus, I must choose to conform or be uniform with what God desires of me. Another more basic way of saying the same thing is that obedience is my response to the truth and its demands manifested moment by moment in the fulfillment of my nature as created by God in order to live out the unique life He has provided for me...

Water Baptism

...Water Baptism “Baptism points back to the work of God, and forward to the life of faith.” - J.A. Motyer Introduction Why is This Topic Important? The subject of water baptism is important for several reasons. First of all, it is a commandment of Jesus Christ and an important part of His great commission. Christ said, “… go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). It is obvious that if we do not properly understand or practice baptism, we are in danger of neglecting a very important desire of our Lord and Savior. Understanding the Bible’s teaching concerning water baptism is also important because we have an obligation to ensure that new converts to Christ understand the biblical view of baptism and its significance to their relationship with Christ. It would be very unfortunate for any believer to experience water baptism without really understanding its meaning. Finally, it is important to discuss this issue because there are a number of disagreements within Christianity related to baptism. Some of these are relatively minor, but others are extremely important and are worth some discussion. Section A will first discuss some introductory matters regarding the meaning of the word “baptism” and the different kinds of baptism in the New Testament (NT). Section B will cover specifically what the Bible teaches...

Exegetical of John 6:32-38

...Introduction The Exegetical Passage in John 8:32-38 is full of life and truth. Throughout history, scholars have often debated the authority and accurate historical account of the Gospels of Jesus Christ and have deliberately tried to defuse or bestow doubt on the accuracy of Jesus Christ being the son of God, the Savior of the Word or even God Himself coming down in the form of man to reconcile us back to Himself. Through this passage, we can conclude that Jesus Christ is the bread of heaven that God has sent to reconcile man back to himself to give and sustain life to all those who partake of Him. The teachings of Jesus Christ from one looking in from the outside, sounds foolish to those who are not confessed Christians and often times astound the “Believer” who is seeking truth and knowledge from the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the bread of life that gives life to those who partake of Him and in this Exegetical Analysis, we will look at the points of references that guides us to the truth that Jesus Christ is the “bread of life” and all those who partake of this bread will by no means be cast out. Historical The view that John, the son of Zebedee, one of the original twelve apostles, wrote the Fourth Gospel, was held uniformly by the early church fathers and for this reason became the traditional view held by the Christian church until modern times. The Gospel of John was known and used authoritatively from the very earliest times and can be seen in the...
