Affirmative action is defined as an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially in relation to employment or education. (“Affirmative) Many people who are often not favored by affirmative action policies, claim affirmative action to be reverse discrimination-- which is: the practice or policy of favoring individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously. In the case of this “Ambassadors of the World” trip, a student who was not selected by the committee and is not a member of the one of the 3 disadvantaged groups favored by the affirmative action plan is unable to claim to be a victim of reverse discrimination. This is simply due to the fact that they had a fair opportunity at receiving one of 15 spots on the trip that had not been reserved for a member of disadvantaged groups. The principal’s quota of 5 reserved spots is a very reasonable limit due to it being 25% of the total population of students selected for the trip. …show more content…
Bakke (1978), in which the ruled: “quotas may not be used to reserve places for minority applicants if white applicants are denied a chance to compete for those places.” (The Editors) In this case I would say the quota is unjust, due to the fact that the cost of the trip is funded for these students- and white students are unable to compete for these positions; however the students that are minorities are able to compete for the other 15

Chandler's Argumentative Analysis

...People would debate and/or create conflict on whether Chandler’s situation on the school not selecting her to go the spring field trip. These arguments can correlate to race, color, racism, etc. There were numerous amounts of people arguing whether it was unfair or fair about Chandler’s situation. Chandler’s argument was dealt with in the Supreme Court because of Chandler’s argument for not letting her go on the “Ambassadors to the World” spring trip. There are many solutions that can be made up from this argument. But, Chandlers argument won’t be one of those solutions because it’s not up to her to make the decisions. The school was only allowed to select twenty students (without paying their expenses for the trip) to go on the trip, without...

...John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy (May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963), commonly known by his initials JFK, was an American politician who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until he was assassinated in November 1963. After military service as commander of Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-59 during World War II in the South Pacific, Kennedy represented Massachusetts's 11th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953 as a Democrat. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Senate from 1953 until 1960. Kennedy defeated vice president and Republican candidate Richard Nixon in the 1960 U.S. presidential election. At age 43, he was the youngest to have been elected to the office,[2][a] the second-youngest president (after Theodore Roosevelt), and the first person born in the 20th century to serve as president.[3] To date, Kennedy has been the only Roman Catholic president and the only president to have won a Pulitzer Prize.[4] Events during his presidency included the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Space Race—by initiating Project Apollo (which would culminate in the moon landing), the building of the Berlin Wall, the African-American Civil Rights Movement, and increased U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested that afternoon and charged with the crime that night. Jack Ruby shot and killed Oswald two days later...

Living History

...___________________________ LIVING HISTORY Hillary Rodham Clinton Simon & Schuster New York • London • Toronto • Sydney • Singapore To my parents, my husband, my daughter and all the good souls around the world whose inspiration, prayers, support and love blessed my heart and sustained me in the years of living history. AUTHOR’S NOTE In 1959, I wrote my autobiography for an assignment in sixth grade. In twenty-nine pages, most half-filled with earnest scrawl, I described my parents, brothers, pets, house, hobbies, school, sports and plans for the future. Forty-two years later, I began writing another memoir, this one about the eight years I spent in the White House living history with Bill Clinton. I quickly realized that I couldn’t explain my life as First Lady without going back to the beginning―how I became the woman I was that first day I walked into the White House on January 20, 1993, to take on a new role and experiences that would test and transform me in unexpected ways. By the time I crossed the threshold of the White House, I had been shaped by my family upbringing, education, religious faith and all that I had learned before―as the daughter of a staunch conservative father and a more liberal mother, a student activist, an advocate for children, a lawyer, Bill’s wife and Chelsea’s mom. For each chapter, there were more ideas I wanted to discuss than space allowed; more people to include than could be named; more places visited than could be described...

It influences not only the U.S.-Pakistani and the Sino-Indian relations to a great extent; ‘Indo-U.S. relations in the post-Cold War period (1992-2006)’ has been the title of the present dissertation. Beginning against the back ground of the U.S.-Pakistani Arms Assistance Agreement of 1954, the Indo-U.S. relations had witnessed many ups and down in the following years. For example, there had been flourishes in Indo-U.S. relations in the early years of 1960s under the Kennedy Administration. This ascent in relations continued until the mid 1960, when the U.S. changed its South Asia policy and adopted a balanced relationship vis-à-vis India and Pakistan in the subsequent years until 1970.
