Dolly Parton Commencement Speech, Rhetorical Analysis
By Migion Booth Dolly Parton, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actress, Arthur, businesswomen, and philanthropist, is an American women primary known for her work in country music. Dolly Parton is a very successful women, due to her determination to be great. An because of her determination to be successful and actually being successful she was asked to give a Commencement Speech at University of Tennessee. In her speech to the students of University of Tennessee she uses pathos, logos, and ethos, to encourage the students to want to dream more, learn more, care more, and be more. Mrs. Parton uses pathos to inspire the students to dream more by the use of her own life experience . “ I’m going to Nashville and I’m going to be a star. Mrs. Parton then uses ethos to further her reason on influencing the students to learn more through her character. “ I knew that even if I flat on my face at least that I would know that I tried and that I would learn from that.” Mrs. Parton gives an example of her determination that if she comes across an obstacle and she fails she will get up and learn from it, her determination will get her back up.
