In this memorandum, you will find our individual analyses of four different documents that we found to be well designed. We have also included our group analysis of the document that we found to be the best designed overall.

I. Connor’s Document Analysis:
This document is effective for a multitude of reasons, other than just being aesthetically pleasing to look at. A fraternity posted this advertisement in one of my classes last year, and it achieved its rhetorical purpose effectively. The fact that I remembered this document in the first place out of the hundreds of other greek-life advertisements speaks to its design.

As stated earlier, the white/black contrast in the title is beneficial to the documents rhetorical purpose, and one will find continuity with this contrast throughout the document. This makes reading the document’s substantive content easier. One will find that they spend a minimal amount of time actually reading the document, but digest the information better than they would from an ill-designed document.

III. Joe’s Document Analysis: This document does well in conveying its rhetorical goal well for a couple of reasons. The document is a flyer for a music festival called “Bonnaroo” which is very eye catching for the reader. One of the best design elements of this document is how the visuals in the background enhance the information. There are no charts, tables, or graphs but the bright colors are very aesthetically pleasing and eye catching for the reader. Also the document is in full block besides the web …show more content…
Sarah’s Document Analysis:
The rhetorical goal of the document I chose is to appeal to college-aged students and entice them to participate in their housing program located in New York City. I believe that they achieved their goal due to the usage of images to appeal to their desired crowd. Along the left-hand side of the document, there are six photos placed vertically on the document. The photos act as a rule to separate the left side of the document, which contains images, from the side that contains the information. The way the photos are positioned makes the document easy to navigate.

Another aspect that drew me to this document was the photo of New York on the bottom of the document. In addition to being visually pleasing, the photo was informative because it was a picture of the city that the document is advertising. The way the document’s creator contrasted this photo with the white background on the top worked extremely well. They were able to include informative and appealing images while also utilizing white space on top to emphasize the document’s title. The title against the white space stood out a lot more than it would have against the picture on the bottom. The way the images were placed on the document and the way they were able to balance the white space with the information with the images is why I felt this document achieved its rhetorical
