Vonnegut’s letter to the school board, “You Have Insulted Me,” has the purpose of persuading the school to reintroduce his book back into their curriculum. His use of the rhetorical devices shows through the three persuasive techniques ethos, pathos, and logos.
The first example, showing persuasion, is vonnegut’s use of logic. He states to the school board why and how it would be logical to put his book back in the curriculum and what they are not going to learn if they do not teach with it. He persuades them by telling the reality of how people act and talk, or how life is really like. For example, one of the realities is the fact that in real life, people talk more “coarsely” and even children knew what it meant. Yet the school decides
