The 1920’s was know as the “roaring twenties”. It was a time of economic progress for most Americans and businesses. Wages for most Americans increased, meaning many people began to have enough money to buy new products. The twenties also brought a sense of freedom and independence to millions of young Americans. This new titillation of freedom made women want to change the traditions their parents practiced for so long. One of these being young women embarking on the man’s task of smoking.

In 1929 the American Tobacco company created an ad to sell Lucky Strike cigarettes. This company created this ad to try and persuade women into buying their cigarettes. American Tobacco uses a cheery and exciting tone to do this.

Lucky Strike cigarettes are being conveyed as a quick and easy solution to staying thin by using the line, “To keep a slender figure No one can deny.” American Tobacco uses strategy because women are always trying to find an easy way to lose weight without having to do the work. Also by using this slogan the consumers are less likely to question it because they believe if it is stated on an ad it must be true. Another example of logo in this ad is “It’s toasted No Throat Irritation-No Cough”. This is an example of logos because the cigarette company can claim that just because the cigarette is toasted it will not cause throat irritation and coughing. By saying this made it seem logical to consumers, which made them decide to purchase this product over other cigarettes that do not claim to have the same …show more content…
Tobacco companies took advantage of this occurrence and started marketing specifically to women. They did this as a hope of broadening their consumer type and as an act to increase profits. The manufacturer of Lucky Strike Cigarettes, also known as American Tobacco used logos and climax to persuade women to purchase their product. This company used logos to convince consumers that what they state on their ad is logical. They use climax to emphasize the importance of the word Lucky and the meaning behind “It’s toasted”. The American Tobacco company was very successful in completing these tasking, improving their profit, and broadening their consumer horizon. All communication takes place in a context that has at least four dimensions: physical, cultural, social psychological and temporal. Communication always has some effect on one or more person involved in the communication act. For every communication act, there is some consequence.
