Being an ambitious chef located in the Midwest, Rick Tramonto is known throughout the country as a star. Tramonto, a New York native, grew up knowing that he didn’t have a passion for academics, and was a fan of playing in the kitchen. He first started as a line cook, but learned quickly and soon moved up on the chain into top restaurants. He grew up in an Italian-American family and was influenced early on by making meatballs in the kitchen, but he didn’t stop at Italian food. Tramonto’s family had a crisis in the year 1977 and it resulted in him dropping out of high school and entering the work force to help support the family. He began working his first job at Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers and soon found his love for cooking. This eventually led to his first real culinary adventure at the Strathallen Hotel where he learned the techniques of classical French cuisine by Chef Greg Broman. He then travelled to Chicago with Richard Melman in 1987 to work at Lettuce Entertain You, where he then moved on to open and work several other Lettuce Entertain You restaurants. Tramonto also worked for Charlie Trotter’s for a year being moving overseas to Leicestershire, England to transform the kitchen and cuisine of the award-winning country house hotel, Stapleford Park.
