Ricky Williams won the heisman trophy in 1999.He was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder and clinical depression He lead the league in rushing yards twice and made the pro-bowl in 2002.He was a very good running back but had unique personality. He was known for not socializing with his teammates. In 2004 before the start of Dolphins training camp in July, Ricky Williams shocked the NFL when he announced his retirement. It was thought that Williams retired due to testing positive for marijuana a third time. The third time became public and also meaning he'd be suspended for four games and fined $650,000. With rumors of another positive marijuana test looming, the Miami Dolphins running back traded adulation and a mansion in South Florida. He moved away to Austraila and lived in a tent. While most of the media thought Williams was ruining his life by leaving football, Ricky thought he was saving it. When asked about his retirement he said "All right, Here's what happened, OK? The thing that I had the most trouble with was that after—after you fail your, your third test then it becomes public knowledge that, that you failed the test. And that's the one thing that I couldn't deal with at the time: People knowing that I smoke marijuana. He later said it was the best decision he ever made. He only retired for 2 years then came back but failed another test for smoking pot. He was suspended for a whole year. He appealed to the league and got reinstated and has had a good career and just this current off season retired. Ricky's career ended with him at 10,009 yards and 66 touchdowns. Williams was also a rare breed in that he didn't let football become what defined him: He wanted to be fulfilled with life in general and grow as a human being. Willliam's was a good guy, never in trouble of any kind besides failing the drug test. He had a very different attitude and was always spending his extra time alone. He didn't have many friends. A lot of people would say its crazy to retire so young and making 9 million a year. He didn't care about the money, he was a man trying to find his innerself. He was a very unique super-star athlete in America.

Homosexual Acceptance

...Turn of the Century: Homosexuality Acceptance Marjorie A. Webster Ashford University Cultural Awareness in the Human Services HHS 320 Professor Andrea Shenkman July 25, 2012 Turn of the Century: Homosexuality Acceptance Our society and our sitcoms have evolved from what it used to be in the 1950s, during the time of Ricky Ricardo and Lucy Ball in the “I Love Lucy” show. Fast forward to the 21st century, television shows such as, “Glee”, “Will and Grace”, and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” carry different themes than those of Ricky’s and Lucy’s silly innocent antics. When in time did our society get over the initial shock of an interracial Ricky and Lucy laying in one bed, to accepting homosexual couples on television? Our society expands further than Hollywood antics, especially with sensitive issues dealing with our individual beliefs, traditions, and customs. In this paper, I will cover the media effect of sexual orientation exposure, the brief history and repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and the acceptance of same-sex marriages in the United States. It goes without saying that the United States is the salad bowl of the world; socially accepting of all races, gender, religion, and now sexual orientation. America is moving forward and embracing a more diverse culture and practices and it is backing it up with concrete legal and political significance. Due to the imminent and overwhelming media exposure of homosexuality, it is evident, be it...

Karen Leary Case

...Problem Statement: Karen Leary (Leary) is unsure whether to grant Ted Chung’s (Chung) request for a private office. She is worried that awarding the office to Chung could cause motivation and morale issues within the other consultants. Hypothesis (H) (it may be) & Analysis (A): (H1) A breakdown of communication between Leary and Chung (A1) The case speaks a lot about the relationship between Leary and Chung and no issue is more evident than the lack of communication between them. As we went to in depth in class, feedback is a vital part of the employee/manager relationship. However, there is minimum feedback given either way within this case. The case talks of how Leary interviewed Chung eight times before hiring him and even then did not feel she knew the person. This tells me that she did not ask the right questions. Even more is that Leary would tell Chung nice job and help push him along but never followed up with criticism. Instead, she took it upon herself to Micro-manage his work and watch over not only Chung but also all her FC’s shoulders. Chung also could use help in communicating, Being he was a loner per say. He would only tell Leary about what was going on with his work when asked. He also kept close attention to make sure that he documented his dealings to show that he was adhering to the company’s rules. However, he would not expound on things. This caused Leary to be suspicious. This issue is one that is of utmost importance in the case. Because of the...

In this thesis I would like to approach the meaning the song as for me and the difference between 1993 until 1999. Also leave an important message to you that you can read during this prewriting. In 1993 singers were artists and some ugly in 1999 singers are all models that sing. In 1993 I was 15 years old. I was a teenager in the down of my adult life and when I listen to this song on the radio I always wondered what that emotion so private that they sang was. Private Emotion: The song is from the Hooters and the lyrics are as follows: Every endless night has a dawning day Every darkest sky has a shining ray And it shines on you, baby, can't you see You're the only one who can shine for me It's a private emotion That fills you tonight And a silence falls between us As the shadows steal the light and wherever you may find it Wherever it may lead Let your private emotion come to me Come to me, come to me, come to me When your soul is tired and your heart is weak Do you think of love as a one way street? Well, it runs both ways, open up your eyes Can't you see me here, how can you deny It's a private emotion That fills you tonight And a silence falls between us As the shadows...

Your First Day on Your First Job

...Your First Day on Your First Job ‘You got the job! You got the job!’ were the words that joyfully rang out from the fast stuttering mouth of my closest neighbor, Maggie. She brought the good news that her boss, Regina Dumas, had agreed to employ me as a secretary for the non-government organization ‘Agency For Rural Transformation’. I couldn’t contained myself and exclaimed ‘Yes, I did it! Finally I can work and earn my own money!’ All too soon the day came for me to head off for my first day of work. I woke at 4:30 a.m., too excited to sleep anymore but anxious to start the journey to my workplace. ‘Make sure to drink at least a cup of tea’ was the forceful sound of my mother’s voice. She was happy for me, and wanted to ensure that I had a good start before beginning the workday. By 7:00 a.m., I was fully dressed in my long sleeve blue pant suit, paired with a florescent blouse and accessorized with my black shoes and brown leather bag. I kissed my mom goodbye and waited outside the house on the verandah for the sound of the blaring horn from the hired bus to take us to the workplace, a full seventeen miles from home. For the most part, the journey from St. Andrew’s to the parish of St. George’s was a smooth and uneventful ride. I travelled through the main winding mountainous road which took me through the rain forest, with its luscious pine trees. With the windows open, the fresh morning breeze smoothly bathed my face, giving it a refreshing feeling. The scent of the...

...Floyd Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) returned to the ring, winning a unanimous, one-sided decision over a game but outclassed Robert Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs). It had been a year since Mayweather had been under the kleig lights and it took him a couple of stanzas to shake off the ring rust. But once he found his groove, the multi-division champion put on a bravura boxing clinic. By the end of the night, no one could have any doubts that the pugilist from Grand Rapids, Mich. is the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. In the first two frames, the southpaw Guerrero enjoyed some success with his straight left hand, but as always Mayweather calmly figured out his foe as though he were solving a crossword puzzle. Mayweather is the best counter puncher of his era and every time Guerrero missed with a shot, Mayweather would make him pay with a whipping right hand that by mid-fight sliced open Guerrero's left eye. Mayweather landed 41% of his punches and a remarkable 60% of his power shots. The crowd of almost 16,000 was solidly in Mayweather's corner. Nevertheless, boos rained during the 12th round when Mayweather failed to press the action and go for the knockout that, from the 8th round on, seemed imminent. Mayweather who was guaranteed $32 million for the night, explained, "I just wanted to go out there and to box smart, and if the knockout came, it would come. But I hurt my right hand midway through the fight. I was really looking for the knockout but after I hurt my hand...

A Review of 'an Idiot Abroad'

...of Karl Pilkington’ is a written accompaniment to the hit television series ‘An Idiot Abroad’. The book not only re-tells the TV series, but also sports new, unseen parts from the series and offers a fresh, simple perspective on the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. I think it’s reasonable to say that those who find themselves reading this book will have seen the Sky1 series, ‘An Idiot Abroad’ of which this book accompanies and thus, not much of an introduction to Karl is required. However for the purpose of this review, Karl Pilkington is an English television personality, actor, author and former radio producer. Karl met Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (Whom sent him on his travels) through gaining prominence as the producer of their show on XFM. Karl tends to be the butt of Ricky’s practical jokes. The book begins with an illustrated conversation between Ricky and Steve that was filmed for the TV series and sets up the entire premise of the project. The book comprises of seven chapters, each consisting of one visit to a ‘wonder’. Countries visited in the book are: China, Jordan, India, Egypt, Peru, Brazil and Mexico. The chapters are presented in chronological order which differs from the show, but makes sense from a narrative point of view as you see Karl’s attitude to each trip change. He goes from careful excitement to irritation and exhaustion as he finds himself having to take part in cultural activities, living their ways of life and quickly wanting to go home. I’ve never...
