Riordan Human Resources Service Request
BSA/375
9/23/2013

Chief Operating Officer Hugh McCauley has submitted a service request to acquire software that unifies the operations of Human Resources. Currently implemented is an HRIS which is disjointed, using multiple formats and platforms that are stored locally and not in a centralized database. This organizational structure causes delays in data processing, report generation, information acquisition, and decision making. The organizational chaos immediately creates issues and unnecessary work load on the Human Resources staff and their superiors they report to, such as the Hugh McCauley. The first task in defining software feature requirements is speaking with the Human Resource department, payroll, accounting, legal, and upper level management. Each of these roles requires specific forms of information generated by the Human Resources department. The software performs functions based on processes, which are created from specific information needs. Creating software that makes the client (Riordan Manufacturing) happy means understanding their business processes & how this information needs to interact between each role within the company. A report generated by payroll that passes through human resources, then to the chief operating officer may go through several modifications as data is processed, added, and removed. The methods used to gather specific requirements for software processes include personal interviews, surveys, and group interviews. With this new HRIS implementation, my approach requires individual interviews for defining role-based needs. A compilation of the role needs presented in an information flow chart is required for the group interview. The structure of the interview begins with the interviewer describing the flow of the chart in high-level perspective. The detail gathering at this

...Individual: Service Request SR-rm-022, Part 2 10/13/2014 BSA375 Introduction Application architecture is the organizational design of an entire software application. This design includes all sub-components, as well as external application interchanges, and is designed to meet the objectives of the system requirements, set forth by the client and stakeholders at hand. The current goal and objective is finding out the best design for the company. Riordan’s current HRIS system is functional, at the least, but with the right design, could be transformed into an amazing application. Riordan Operational Requirements Riordan must integrate the new HR CRM system with current software. Since the system requires integration with employee’s desktop computers, a client-server architecture would be most beneficial. This would allow for better storage, flexibility to allow different OS to connect, and reduction in costs which is a long term benefit for the company. The client-server architecture would be best to integrate employee desktops. Riordan Performance Requirements Riordan is interested in a high-tech system to integrate the mountains of Human Resource forms and documents. They expect high performance in their new integrated system. This is the reason why we have chosen the client-server architecture. Due to increased scalability, availability, reliability, and better response times with this architecture, Riordan will benefit by easier integration of hardware and speed...

Only with effective human capital management can an organization attract and retain top notch talent. Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is a successful plastic injection molding company with offices in China and the United States. Employing 550 employees, the ability to keep up with increasing regulatory and compliance requirements is significantly challenged. According to Hendrickson, Information Technology in the HR sector has introduced significant challenges for HR professionals “who must quickly get up to speed in the latest information technologies and simultaneously transform traditional processes into on-line processes” (Hendrickson, 2003, p383). This report covers the systems analysis of Service Request SR-RM-004. Submitted by Riordan’s Chief Operating Officer, it is his desire that all Human Resource functions are centralized onto a single platform. Riordans Service Request Sr-Rm-022, Part 2

...Riordan Stephen G Peterson BSA375 APR 03, 2014 University of Phoenix Riordan RIORDANS Service Request SR-rm-022, Part 2 Riordan Manufacturing is seeking a new system that will consolidate all of their Human Resource related data. Currently, the data that will be a part of the new system is spread out through different departments of the company. The new system will allow this data to be saved in a central location, while only allowing viewing access to certain employees. The access will be much the same as currently in place, but located in a single system. Lastly, the implementation of the new system will be not be a quick process, because it would be safer the company completes a test run to few end users before completely releasing the system. For the design process and application architecture Riordan would benefit from using third-party software for their application process and for other processes. Programs that are already developed like commercial off the shelf (COTs) will help Riordan Manufacturing to save development time and will include training and services with them. This will be a long-term investment that can save the company money. Using COTs will guarantee security from the third party vendor. Any additional software or programs that are needed for special projects will be an in-home development. Security Controls For Riordan Manufacturing security of their system should be a major concern in this project. When it comes to security system...

The company is currently “employing 550 people with projected annual earnings of $46 million. The company is wholly owned by Riordan Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise with revenues in excess of $1 billion.” (University of Phoenix, 2013) Hugh McCauley, the COO of the company, wants to develop a new application for the human resource department in order to keep up with changing technology. He would like to have a system that integrates all of the existing HR tools the company uses into a single, modern information systems application. This project will need to consist of several different stages in order for it to potentially be successful and will require an analyst to ensure all key points of the project are met. One of the first areas we need to look at when transitioning from analysis to design is the application software. “Software application architecture is the process of defining a structured solution that meets all of the technical and operational requirements, while optimizing common quality attributes such as performance, security, and manageability.” (Microsoft, 2014) Taking into account the requirements of the new design, a thin client-server architecture, where the server performs the application logic, makes the most sense to use. One of biggest benefits to a thin...

Currently, the data is stored manually in their headquarters in San Jose and this needs to be fixed, there will be several modules places into a single system that can be accessed from the rest of their locations countrywide. ...Network The way to begin developing the system architecture is to decide how the new system will spread information in different locations. Riordan Manufacturing's operational network allows each of their locations to transmit information for communication. Their corporate headquarters's new human resource system (HRIS) will be installed by NAS Iomega network storage. Riordan's three locations will be connected to San Jose by the wide area network connection (WAN), which communicates at T1 connection speeds. The network server relays its information to the human client computers each location uses. Each location's human resources department can then have access to important information, accessed via their local client server computers. Process All of the files that the human resources department needs for their procedures will be saved to the HR system on the main server at corporate headquarters. The HRIS system will store this information on its employees via Riordan's intranet: • Employee files – includes resumes, performance reviews, and other important information. • Job descriptions – explains a job's functions and the education it requires. • Electronic job posting – lists job openings in multiple locations. • Employee handbook – employees can access the handbook electronically. • Policies and procedures – a place to find the company's policies and operating standards. • Employee file updates – Lets...

Riordan Manufacturing Systems

...Riordan Manufacturing Systems BSA/375 October 6, 2014 Riordan Manufacturing Systems Hugh McCauley, COO, has submitted a service request for the Human Resources (HR) department to integrate the department's current systems into one integrated application. Mr. McCauley is the main point of contact for this project. The systems analyst has reviewed the service request and studied a listing of what systems are currently in place. Using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology, the analyst should complete the request within the six month time frame requested by Mr. McCauley. Completing this request on time will allow the HR department to use the new system by the second quarter of the next year (University of Phoenix, 2011). Project Overview The current system is linked to a financial systems package that only keeps track of employee information. Many of the sub-systems were created and are run by individuals such as managers or data entry clerks. Currently, there are seven different sub-systems operating within the HR department. All but one sub-system is run internally by Riordan personnel. Workers' Compensation is outsourced to a third-party provider, which uses its system and keeps its records. The sub-systems use different methods of collecting and viewing data. The common thread seems to be the use of Excel. Hard copy files are stored in random locations such as locked files in offices or a central storage area. There is little consistency in...
