...Mrs. Sen’s The process of assimilation if very difficult for Mrs. Sen. Unlike the narrator of The Third and Final Continent or even Lilia’s parents, Mrs. Sen finds it impossible to integrate into her new country. Her refusal to learn how to drive is the culmination of her distress. Her frustration is voiced loudly only to Eliot, who is dealing with his own distress. There is a childish, tantrum-like angle to Mrs. Sen’s complaints. She even remarks to Eliot that he is much wise than she was at that age; she never thought for a moment that she would be separated from her family. While the reader sympathizes with her plight, her stubbornness seems greater than it need be. Her husband tries to accommodate her, the policeman does not arrest or fine her for the accident, and the workers at the fishmarket put product on hold for her. In the end, it is Mrs. Sen’s responsibility to make an effort. Unlike Mala in The Third and Final Continent – who was equally distraught about leaving her family – Mrs. Sen does not try to adjust. She is trapped in a cage of her own making. As in Sexy, the main characters have mirror images within the story. Here, Eliot and Mrs. Sen are quite similar. He is trapped in his life as well. The loneliness and distress that Mrs. Sen expresses are familiar emotions. He has front row seats for his mother’s sadness. Unlike Mrs. Sen, Eliot is unable to tell anyone about his plight because, again unlike Mrs. Sen, he is truly powerless. The sympathy one has for Eliot...

Dreams

...Sharing the first chapter of Half Girlfriend. Prologue ------------ ‘They are your journals, you read them,’ I said to him. He shook his head.  ‘Listen, I don’t have the time or patience for this,’ I said, getting irritated. Being a writer on a book tour doesn’t allow for much sleep—I had not slept more than four hours a night for a week. I checked my watch. ‘It’s midnight. I gave you my view. It’s time for me to sleep now.’ ‘I want you to read them,’ he said. We were in my room at the Chanakya Hotel, Patna. This morning, he had tried to stop me on my way out. Then he had waited for me all day; I had returned late at night to find him sitting in the hotel lobby.  ‘Just give me five minutes, sir,’ he had said, following me into the lift. And now here we were in my room as he pulled out three tattered notebooks from his backpack.  The spine of the books came apart as he plonked them on the table. The yellowing pages fanned out between us. The pages had handwritten text, mostly illegible, as the ink had smudged. Many pages had holes in them, rats having snacked on them.  An aspiring writer, I thought.  ‘If this is a manuscript, please submit it to a publisher. However, do not send it in this state,’ I said. ‘I am not a writer. This is not a book.’ ‘It’s not?’ I said, lightly touching a crumbling page. I looked up at him. Even seated, he was tall. Over six feet, he had a sunburnt, outdoor ruggedness about him. Black hair, black eyes and a particularly...

Relationship vs Loyalty Test

...tests. “Yes, loyalty tests are important because 90% of the men attract towards pretty faces very often. Such people are not trustworthy at all.” Says Ayush, IT professional. What makes people to approach such programs? Lack of trust, over possessiveness, good for nothing doubting nature may be few reasons behind it. But real people have real problems that are directly and indirectly catered to by such shows. Inspired from this UTV BINDASS hardcore, our city people found the way out to clear doubts of such beau at local level. One of the famous FM channel of the city, made it happen by conducting such loyalty test for its listeners. The program has proved fruitful for few and disappointing for the others. A suspicious girlfriend Riya after proven wrong, asked her boyfriend to pardon her for doubting on him via this FM channel. If you are so not sure on your love then why to regret after proven wrong? There are also people who consider the idea of such tests as ‘immoral’. “It means you yourself are not loyal that you are thinking to make your partner undergo such disgusting test. It can prove devastating for relationship further. So better try to solve problems at the personal level.” Says Prasoon, engineering student. One of the city psychologists, S.S Agnihotri states the reason behind such tests as trust, flirtatious nature, number of relationships and the time span. Also adds up by saying “People conduct loyalty tests for fun reasons also. Have time...

Human Dynamics

...Case5 Subhash Sane was the Senior Manager-Retail Operations of a very established hyper mart. It was a Monday afternoon as he stood by the glass door at his office watching people coming in and leaving the store. It was a Monday and there were not too many people other than those who wait for the weekend rush to ebb before they stepped into the store for their week-long groceries He could see one young girl at the footwear section for ladies struggling to decide which pair to buy.| It seemed that she wanted to buy one pair and could not decide which one of the two to buy. Subhash could see her trying one out, walking to the mirror and repeating the same with the other pair. Finally, after the customer service representative of that section had a small conversation with her, the girl happily marched to the till with one pair. Subhash walked back to his chair wondering how similar this incidence was to the situation he was in. He had interviewed three candidates in the last three days for the position of customer service representative. The three candidates did fulfill the basic requirements of the job and did seem to fulfill all the requirements mentioned in the job description. But he could not decide which one to select. There was no way he could try all the candidates out to choose like the girl did with her footwear! And then an idea struck him—'If someone could help that girl decide, I could also do with the advice from someone'. He sat in his chair and called his friend Meera...

Aku belum pernah bernaung di dalamnya,, bahkan melintaspun tak pernah.. aku hanya terus mendengar sedikit demi sedikit tentangnya.. namun tak mengapa,, aku tetap menanti hingga orangorang sekitarku mengizinkan.. Winner

...Student’s essay A famous author once remarked that ” Winners never quit and quitters never win”. People who see their ideas through, however unpragmatic it may be considered by others are the ones who have truly made a difference. History is replete with examples of people who were perceived as crazy, illogical and even insane by laymen, yet when their ideas were sedulously worked upon, by the creator , day after day, combined with long hours of toil, the result was nothing, short of marvelous. Lets’s take the example of the Indian freedom struggle fought by Gandhiji on the basis of Satyagraha. It was very difficult for the Britishers to assume that India would be freed one day under the leadership of a loin cloth covered ordinary looking man without the use of weapons or bloodshed. The reason that Indian freedom could be achieved was the unflagging determination of Gandhiji and the uncommon methodology used of winning freedom by peace and not bloodshed. Looking not far, I can recall the example of Galileo who was reviled and persecuted by the Church authorities for challenging the existing norms that pervaded the society that time. Galileo ‘s fierce determination , not to give up on his ideas even during harsh criticism paved the way for modern space research. Another convincing example is of the Wright Brothers. Who would have ever imagined that it is indeed possible to fly like a bird and traverse different parts of the globe. I am sure that the Wright brothers were reviled...

...International Journal of Engineering and Advanced Technology (IJEAT) ISSN: 2249 – 8958, Volume-X, Issue-X Language Translator Ekta Ahuja, Karan Kashyap  degradation of translation output quality over a period of time. Abstract— The aim of this project is to find out the problem areas in the translation done by Bing, suggest a method to improve the language translation and build a translator that supports accurate English to Hindi translation. The English input can be of textual, voice or image form and the Hindi output will be in the textual format.. With our research we aim to suggest a way to improve the already available popular translation engines. For this purpose we have used the method of hybrid machine translation. Hybrid machine translation is a method of machine translation that is characterized by the use of multiple machine translation approaches within a single machine translation system. The motivation for developing hybrid machine translation systems stems from the failure of any single technique to achieve a satisfactory level of accuracy. B. Statistical Machine Translation Statistical Machine Translation systems make use of computer algorithms that find out many possible ways of connecting smaller pieces of text together, in order to produce a best translation. Statistical Machine translation basically translates words and phrases along with their statistical likelihood. These are learned automatically from previously translated...
