...The Effects of Hollywood Since the eventful day of September 11th torture has been a hot topic for the media, movies, and has even sparked debate amongst government officials. In the article, “Whatever it Takes” by Jane Mayer, she debates on the subject by comparing real life torture from an interrogators point of view and those of the fantasy world from which the producers and writers come up with for the hit TV show 24. Mayer attempts to influence her readers about the effects that the show 24 has on its viewers, which include young cadets, through interviews with highly trained interrogators. Mayer also interviews the show’s writers, producers, and actors to expose some of the main concerns in regards to the torture scenes in the hit show 24. Throughout the article, Mayer makes it clear that she does not agree with the way torture is being projected in the show 24 by starting off her discussion questioning the producer’s credibility, Joel Surnow. Mayer wants people to see Surnow as an arrogant and selfish person by quoting Surnow as saying, “People in the Administration love the series, too, it’s a patriotic show. They should love it” (Surnow Qtd in Mayer 1). Mayer’s point is that Surnow is very confident in the show’s popularity regardless of the criticism the show brings amongst some of its viewers. Surnow also bluntly tells Mayer that he is arrogant, there’s no denying it. She also points out many times in her article that he is a conservative and goes on to say that...

...Which CTU agent was executed in season three of "24"? When did the vindictive Nina and Sherry die? How does Jack Bauer return to CTU after being assumed dead at the conclusion of season four? 2. Credibility: I have not missed a single episode of twenty four since its deputed 5 years ago. Tonight the show is on from 8pm-9pm but you better believe that the TIVO is set. 24 revolutionized the after work action/drama genre for me. It deals with contemporary issues, real and more or less plausible terrorist threats, and a real-time hourly format, 24 redefined my expectations for all shows going forward. 3. Thesis: 24 is a great alternative to mindless, dull, and uninteresting television shows that flood the airways today. 24 is sure to grasp your attention away from other shows such as “The Apprentice©”, “Americas Funniest Home Videos©”, and “Gilmore Girls©” that sure the same time slot. II. BODY: 1. NEED STEP: A. There are many shows on television that just don’t catch the attention of the viewers. If any of you are like my uncle you may just watch whatever show the remote takes you too. While this can be entertaining, it does may not satisfy you as much as it could. B. Although “CSPAN©” may teach you politics, “Iron Chef©” may enhance your cooking skills, and “WWE Raw©” may give some that macho soap opera experience; none of these shows will give you the overall satisfaction that 24 has to offer. It is full of romance, suspense,...

...the national land use as the highest policy making body. It categorizes uses of land for protection, production, settlement and infrastructure. The NLUMA was opposed by the real estate sector as the act will negatively affect the housing backlog, real estate boom and global competiveness. It is said to be that the bill was too pro-peasant. The conversion of land in the Philippines is more on the growth of real estate and not by the manufacturing sector. It is driven by interest and thirst for money by capitals instead of providing for the need of the masses. The relocation sites for informal settlers are said to be the safety of the IS from the hazard of living near flood prone areas. They were relocated off city such as Bulacan, Rizal and Cavite. I have an experience wherein I interviewed someone that experience the relocation in Montalban. She said that the relation site is more of a danger zone and prone to disasters. It has no basic services and far from work. There is also less opportunity for livelihood. The relocation site in Montalban is prone to flooding as it is a catchment. It is also along the west valley fault. The sites is basically to kill the informal settlers instead of taking care of their needs. ...Rivera, Lieca R. June 6, 2016 Sec 1 Prof. Pelias Reflection: We visited 5 places in our Viaje de Angono. We depart from Santolan Station by roughly 8 am. The travel time to reach our first destination which is the Rizal windmill is 2 hours, as far as I remember. I have not been to Ilocos Norte to witness the famous Bangui Windmills, and it is included my bucket list to have a picture with those. I was really amazed to see the wind farm in Rizal since it seems like I get to see those in Ilocos. I also found out that the same company is operating both the Bangui and Pililla windmills. The Pililla windmills are on top of the hills overlooking the beautiful plains of Tanay Rizal on one side and Laguna on the other side. One will also get a very good view of Laguna de Bay. There are infographic boards there about Pililia and the wind farm. One interesting fact on why Pililia was chosen as the site for these wind turbines –these hills have a natural wind corridor with a monthly average of 36kmh windspeed passing through the hill and heightens during Amihan (north-east winds) season from October to March. We took plenty of photos with the wind mills for remembrance. Also, we bought memorabilia that the residents are selling there. We had our lunch after windmills. Then, we went to Nemiranda Art Haus and Balaw-balaw restaurant. This arthouse is surrounded by mythical relief murals and three dimensional mythological characters such as the “Ang Nuno” , “Habagat” and...

...Punta de Fabian is located on Manila East Road, Barangay Evangelista, Baras, Rizal that is not far away from our house, you can get there maybe 10-15mins if you are living in Baras. Great food, friendly staff, cozy and high tech rooms, complete facilities, and everything you would ask for in your second home is in the famous and first-class, Punta de Fabian. Even though I only got to experience the cheapest but also of high-class room, I enjoyed the glamour of the place and felt like a very important guest. First to talk about is the food. "Wow!" I think this expression summarizes everything about the food in Punta de Fabian. First we had is their pastry, tea and coffee. The croissant was really delicious, the coffee was great and the cookies were perfect. I even learned from Tracy, one of the hotel's trainees (if I'm not mistaken), that their pastries were being purchased by other hotels and restaurants. We had our sumptuous breakfast. Almost every kind of breakfast food was served in the buffet. I was amazed by the, delicious juices of every kind, and the unfamiliar fruits that taste so good, not to mention the excellent staff that assisted us. My stay at Nielsen's was really awesome and satisfying. Next are the friendly employees. The moment I arrived at the hotel, I was very nervous and insecure of how I look and present myself because of the formal environment of Punta de Fabian. Thanks to one of the staff who opened the car's door and greeted me with a friendly voice...

...CHAPTER 2 LOCATION GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION TOPOGRAPHY HISTORICAL INFLUENCES Calinawan Cave is situated in Barangay Tandang Kutyo of Tanay, Rizal. History tells us that the cave served as hideout by Filipino revolutionaries during Spanish-American war, and a shelter during the Second World War. According to local folklore, it is where the Japanese and American troops settle their disputes. Thus, the Filipino word “Calinawan” comes from the word “Linaw” which means “to settle” or “to clear”. Long before the coming of Spaniards, Tanay was already settled by early Indonesian and Malay voyagers. Artifacts dug up attest to the existence of these early settlements. Not long after the conquest and subjugation of Manila and the surrounding lake areas by Salcedo in 1571, Franciscan missionaries arrived to Christianize the inhabitants of what is now the Morong-Pililla area. From Morongan, the priest administered Tanay and other chapel villages and ranches. In 1773, construction of the now famous Tanay Church was begun and was finished 10 years later. Tanay became a Municipality in 1894 as an effect of the Spanish Maura Law. The first election of Public Office took place in 1895-1898 and 1898-1900 under the Revolutionary Government of Philippines. Tanay members of the Katipunan fought valiantly during the Revolution against Spain. The town was the headquarters of the second military area of the Philippine Revolutionary Government under General Emilio Aguinaldo. And for a brief period...

...El Filibusterismo by Jose Rizal El Filibusterismo is the second novel written by Doctor Jose Rizal and is a sequel Noli me Tangere. El Filibusterismo means “Reign of Greed” in English. Noli Me Tangere Noli Me Tangere is a Latin word which means “Touch Me Not”. Rizal described in details the sufferings of his countrymen under the Spaniards in this novel. To Josephine Rizal wrote this poem for Josephine Bracken, an Irish woman who went to Dapitan to have her father George Taufer treated for an eye problem. To the Philippine Youth At the age of eighteen years of age, Rizal won first prize for his poem “To the Philippine Youth” in 1879. Our Mother Tongue “Our Mother Tongue” is a poem originally in Tagalog written by Rizal when he was just eight years old. Mi Ultimo Adiós (Original Version) Here is the original Spanish text of My Last Farewell penned by Rizal during his last hours on December 29, 1896. My Last Farewell or Mi Ultimo Adios was the last poem written by Jose Rizal but his friend, Mariano Ponce, was the one who gave the title to this poem. To the Flowers of Heidelberg Jose Rizal wrote “To the Flowers of Heidelberg” on April 24, 1886 while he was in Germany and felt a deep longing for his family and his country. ...We knew Rizal was our Philippine national hero but do you even wonder who Jose Rizal really is? Having this privilege to fully watch the documentary film about the life of a hero directed by Butch Nolasco made me think that it’s very rare to find such person who would give his own life knowing he have all those wealth and intelligence that others don’t have for the sake of his motherland and fellow citizens. If you would be dare to die for your country, will you have the courage to accept it given at this particular moment? That’s the question that surely most of us would decline, wouldn’t we? The documentary film of Jose Rizal shows his life starting from his young age up until the day he died. There featured all the information about his family, the schools and courses that Rizal entered and toke up, his travels across different nations, the particular people he had made friends with and those of his enemies as well, and of course his sacrifices he did for the success of the 2 novels that play an important role in the awakening of patriotism among Filipino patriots .It was also featured the women that Rizal had flings with. As I remembered Segunda Katigbak was Rizal’s First girlfriend while Leonor Rivera his cousin became his first love that lasted for 11 years until her parents arranged a wedding to Kipping. It’s a genuine frustration indeed for a person to be in that kind of situation. Despite Rizal is in the moment of great sorrow with how his relationship with...
