Rize / David Lachapelle (2005) David LaChapelle’s film Rize a documentary on krump addresses the themes in class, by many aspects first lest begin by how I created a movement, it also has a personality towards body panting (face panting) in this case; also has a cultural meaning and backgrounds. Krumpers have a concept of identity, performance, and cultural critique. Well let’s start by its concept of identity this movement called krumpers have their own kind of stilly that makes them unique from all other kinds of art performances/dances , and cultural critique is that some people would not agree to accept as a cultural movement, and take it as something series. But it really is because; it has a powerful meaning and is also unique. Therefore krumpers embody all of concepts mention.
I. Identity, Performance, and the Body Politic. Identity, how does krumping become an identity, well first of all krumping is a movement that was originated in L.A. who was influenced by clowning. Clowning also began in L.A. by Tommy Johnson also best known as Tommy the Clown he had the opportunity to se clowning as something bigger that just being a normal clown he saw it as an escape from all the violence and gangs that are present in L.A. for all the kids who had to grow up those kinds of neighborhoods . As time passed clowning increased to be a escape from all the violence of gangs for some children and teens who had to grow up in that kind of life set. Later on a new movement originated from clowning called krumping . Krumping is based on a more aggressive movement and much faster beat than clowning; although it may seem as if they are fighting they are not they are only expressing their feelings on to a dance movement which is very original. Artist David LaChapelle, points out “For the dancers, Krumping becomes a way of life – and, because it’s authentic expression (in complete opposition to the bling-bling hip-hop culture), the dance becomes a vital part of who they are.” In other words this means that in their Performance they express their everyday problems or a way to relieve from all the strees or hate they might had, and focus all of that energy into krumping.
