Network Address Translation
How to configure Network Address Translation (NAT) on the Linksys E4200 1. Open the internet browser and navigate to 198.168.1.1. 2. Select the Advanced Routing Tab and enable NAT. 3. Ensure that DNS is ENABLED then navigate to Applications and Gaming. 4. Then select DMZ, Demilitarized Zone. This is a proxy from the untrusted internet to trust home network 5. Under the DMZ tap, ENABLE and select any IP Address. 6. As a company standard set the destination to 192.168.1.5. 7. Ensure to save settings
Network address translation is the process by which nodes on internal network us private IP address to connect to the internet via one public IP. NAT allows for the conservation of public IP address and increased network security. Without NAT, expanding any private network would require an IP address to be obtained from Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). NAT takes the internal IP address and maps that IP address to a registered public IP address. When a device, in the private network, sends a request to a resource outside of the local area network NAT will convert the outbound address to the assigned private address and port. When the request is sent back NAT directs the data to device within the private network that made the requests. NAT operates in a seamless manor
