Running head: Critical Analysis on Qualitative Research:

Problem Statement: Recognized practice nurses furthering their career anesthesiology being challenged by stresses involved in the program course outline as well as post graduation stressors. The problem of this study was the fact that just a minimal awareness about post graduate nurse anesthetist educational program which is mostly entrusted to competency in cultural training, rates of attrition, curriculum of the clinical areas in other words the historic review on transformations in educational programs over a period of decades. This problem not only affect practices in nursing, rather it focuses on fears and worries and thereby discovering ways to enhance the curriculum for nurse anesthesiology by reducing stress on students. Problem of this study marches with it’s naturalism of paradigm and due to the presenting problem replies or responses could be retrieved from the students points of view. The application of grounded qualitative theory method stands as a good choice for this study as it enables the writer to stop the use of inquiry from nurses in other to get data required from participating individuals. By the applied method of obtaining data a reasonable theory came up which could not have happened if the writer had chosen a different inquiry method.

Purpose and Research Question:

Purpose of this analysis is in order to establish quality critical analysis, examining applied methods of research as well as limitations and strengths. Generally, this research was presented with great attention to its purpose findings and methods. It is also necessary to understand that this research poses certain impacts on nursing as a body and anesthetist student nurse. This paper should have offered better elaborations on the kind of literature review prior to the study and after as well as research bias preventive strategies applied. Anyways, it appears to be a reasonable topic of study which includes a small number of weakness, limitations and strengths. The research questions in this study are stated as: (1) What sorts of stress did the anesthetist nurse student encounter in the course of anesthesiology education? (2) How did the students tackle these challenges to enable then excel/ succeed in their educational career? These interrogations remain in alliance with a paradigm based on naturalistic, a tradition of grounded theoretical approach as well as structural data achievement method .The main idea of this study specifically refers to a concern “what sorts of stressors did the anesthetist nurse students face in the course of anesthesiology program. In this regard, according to Loiselle & McGrath (2011), statement about the purpose is very necessary as it reveals under what condition the inquiry is made, the participating population and the major happenings being investigated. This purpose required the demand for research which provided answers to the questions.

Literature Review: Literature review by definition according to McGrath and Loiselle is defined as “a critical summary research on any topic of interest, mostly to put a research problem in context” In this article, the author has no section for a review of literature which could be as a result of restrictions from the publisher on the author. Being a qualitative research, its review of literature could be carried out prior to post process of research. For the fact that the author of this article applied a tradition of the grounded theory which only requires a little literature review at the onset of the research to indicate studies carried out in the process. According to Burns & Groove (2011) actual review of literature is done on concluding a research study. In this article there was no obvious citing of any literature as the author noted to her awareness that there isn’t any study which discovers the way current anesthetist graduates perceived and paved their ways through the stressors associated with their career educational program. The absence of review of literature in the initial part of the study can be noted to be a weak point in the process and the problem statement might be seen as less a concern leading to the possibility of changing the first purpose and questions. A couple of cited authors are in the range of 5 yrs.

Conceptual/ Theoretical Framework:

Imperatively caring out critique and analysis in qualitative research is very necessary in helping nurses widen their knowledge and understand the facts in any study prior to practicing (Loiselle & McGrath, 2011) This writer looks into a critical analysis on an article which Joy Phillips has put together on, Finding out stressors on Anesthetist Nursing student and positive coping skills while applying grounded theory as it’s methodology. The author applied a paradigm of naturalistic with a theory of choice as grounded method in obtaining and organizing of information .Interview papers was a means of reaching out to participating individuals and during collection of data the writer applied interviews that were semi- structured and was in alliance with the theory of choice (grounded) also enabled participating individuals to figure out their individual challenges as well as effective coping skills implemented to excel through the identified stresses. The community group being identified as Anesthetist student nurse with a sample group of anesthesiology graduates who are eligible to provide reasonable information to the problem statement and questions. A sampling based on theoretical method seemed a perfect choice in terms of grounded theory approach thereby helping the researcher to create connectivity of events in the study. These that are will to participate after receiving invitations dropped in at their department large room replied to the researcher through phone calls and emails. This research study involved 12 newly graduated nurse anesthetists standing in the place of 5 students of anesthesiology that were not in any school program for at least 2years. Since qualitative research rather deals with detailed information instead of voluminous numeric, this might be a fact as the cut off size for sampling in grounded method if twenty-five to thirty individuals. This small number could be weakness to the research.
