...On the road The driver, vehicles and accident Number of drivers and vehicles continue to increase… Malaysia became one of automobile manufacturing countries since 1985 with the launching of the first national car. Production of the national cars increased from 80,000 to 240,000 units a year. Among the models are Wira, Waja, Exora, Kancil, MyVi, Viva and Alza. This scenario indirectly contributes to the increase in the number of registered vehicles and the number of registered drivers. Based on comparison between 2005 and 2009, the cumulative number of registered cars has increased by 31.4 per cent (2 million) and the cumulative number of registered motorcycles has increased by 27.6 per cent (1.9 million). Cumulative number of registered drivers recorded at 11.7 million, an increase of 17.8 per cent (1.8 million). ...license in Malaysia be increased to 21 years old? Year by year the accident rate in Malaysia has been on a steady hike. Various factors are said to be the contributors for this hike. However, one prominent factor has been a topic for debate in recent years. It is claimed that newly licensed teenagers have helped to increase the number of serious accidents than any other group on the road. For this reason, I believe that the age of obtaining a driving license in Malaysia should be raised to 21 years old. Firstly, at the age of 21, humans leave their teenage years into early adulthood. During this period of life, humans gain more maturity physically and mentally. Mental maturity is an absolute requirement for all drivers. At a younger age, teenagers are fueled by a competitive lifestyle where everything seems to be race for them. This also happens on road where teenagers strive to overtake any drivers who drive faster than them. In turn, they endanger their own life and the life of others due to this immaturity. Secondly, once the minimum age is raised there will be lesser drivers on the road. If we only may get a driving license at the age of 21, then teenagers from the age of 17 to 20 years old will still not be driving. Consequently, there will be lesser drivers on the road which lead to a lower probability for accidents to occur. Besides, the more cars on the roads, the higher the probability of accidents to occur. This can be proven by the staggering number of accidents during...

...1.0 Significant of Study This study is significant on discussing about how freight transport would bring to critical environmental issue to the society. 2.0 Problem Statement Freight transport has been identified that are causing three major problems, which are stated as below, (1) Increases of the road freight transport increase environmental issues along, (2) Some controversy relationship issue between transport growth and economic development, environmental and political factors, (3) Emission rise of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Carbon Dioxide (CO²) worsen the greenhouse effect. 2.1 Road freight transport and environmental issues. The freight transport in Europe by road, rail and waterway together has grown by about 60 per cent since 1970; especially road transport has more than doubled, while rail and waterway still remained static. In this case, there is involving an increasing number of road freight traffic that could cause towards the increasing of environmental problem. For a case in point, when heavy goods vehicles are being used to transfer goods from a point of origin to another destination, it could be leaking out pollutant material and energy emission that would be harmful to humans as well as flora and fauna. 2.2 Controversy relationship issue The relationships between transport growth and economic development are significantly different from those linking the economy to the energy sector generally. This paper analyzes current trends in private vehicle ownership in Malaysia. For the past decades private vehicle ownership has increased tremendously in this country which is partly due to the economic growth, rapid urban development, population growth and inadequate public transport availability and services. In 2010, Malaysia has a population of 28.3 million, 17.4 million private vehicle automobiles and 11.7 million registered drivers. Traditionally, income has been hypothesized as a major determinant of private vehicle ownership. However, the spatial arrangement of urban fabric has becoming more important determinant of owning a vehicle. Other determinants such as government policy, auto vehicle financing, household characteristics and travel characteristics are also important. Therefore this paper is analyzing the spatial determinants of private vehicle ownership in Malaysia with a special reference to the Penang Island. Penang Island is located on the northeastern region of Malaysia and is an industrialized and a highly developed island. Penang Island has a population of 575,498 in 2000 and 740,200 in 2010, an increase of 29 percent for the last 10 years. In 2010 alone...
