...Adventures of a Long Road Trip Back in the Fall of 2006, my wife and I decided to take the kids to Disneyland. We left on our trip in the cool darkness of the early morning. As we drove down the road, my wife started wondering if we forgot anything. We were about four blocks away from the house when she yelled out a few choice words, then said,’ We forgot the package from the travel agent!" I turned around immediately and went in and grabbed it. As we got to about the same spot, she remembered another thing we had forgotten. This happened about three times. That should have told me right there that this was going to be a trip for the ages. The trip all the way to Disneyland went off without a hitch. So we ventured on down to San Diego to go to Sea World. As we got closer to San Diego and driving down I-5 doing about 80 mph so we could just keep up with traffic, I thought I heard something on the roof of our Ford Expedition, where our travel bag was in a net and strapped down. When all of a sudden something in the rearview mirror caught my eye. I hollered a few choice words and said " There goes our travel bag!" It went flying in the air like a dead body falling from the sky. It landed in the third lane of southbound I-5. I pulled over to the side of the freeway, and got out to see how I was going to get it back. Luckily traffic was sort of light and it didn't hit or land on anybody's vehicle. My wife called 9-1-1 and a State Patrol officer showed up not too long after...

...since then. When I was 7 years old my family took our first road trip out west. We drove up through Minnesota, and South Dakota stopping at Mount Rushmore and the Needles in Custer State Park. I can still remember my parents having to drag me off the hills because I loved climbing the rocks so much. We drove all the way out to Yellowstone National Park and watched Old Faithful erupt right on cue. On our way home we stopped in Cody Wyoming and saw a genuine rodeo. When I was 9 my family took another road trip to the south west of the United States. This took about 3 weeks, 2 of which I was pulled from school. Many people would say that it’s not a good idea to pull a child from school that long....

...------------------------------------------------- Summer Road Trips: A Comparison of Younger & Older Drivers ------------------------------------------------- 1. Introduction Summer is the best time to travel for many people as the weather gets warmer and children are finishing up the school year. With summer right around the corner, my wife and I have started to plan out the trips that we want to take. Though one of the trips will require a flight, travel for all of the other trips will be by means of our trusty old car, most requiring an overnight stay in the city we are visiting. After planning the logistics of the trips and making the necessary reservations, I was excited at the thought of the upcoming time off and chance to relax and refuel. I then proceeded to speak with my mother and ask if she could watch my dog for a few of the trips. I was surprised, however, to hear that she would not be able to watch my dog because she would be out of town on road trips herself that she had planned with friends. A few days later, I mentioned some of the trips I had planned to some colleagues at the office and some indicated that they, too, had road trips planned this summer. After further discussion with additional colleagues, I observed that many younger people were actually not going to go on many road trips this summer, while many older people actually had quite a few road trips planned. This led me to wonder if older drivers, in general, had a higher likelihood of having road trips planned this summer...

...Narrative Essay 9/23/2014 The Relaxing Road Trip The Grand Central station of American the West where Lewis and Clark passed through, crazy horse fought for freedom, and the evergreens so thick they make the hills look black. It’s time for family road trip to the Black Hills. The whole family already has her bags packed and are ready to go. I’m the last one to leave the house and get into the car and I am not ready for this road trip. I said myself “this is going be the most boring trip ever, just mountains and trees and a 14 hour car ride of agonizing pain and misery with nothing else to do but sit there and look out of the window at corn until we get there. My sister I don’t normally get along with is kicking the back of my seat screaming that she doesn’t have enough leg space. 30 minutes into the trip she starts to cry about how hungry she is. And instead of my parents providing a reasonable solution to the problem like giving her some food from the cooler they just turn the music up louder. Which made it way worse for me, as her death screeching screams began to rise and started to kick harder on the back of my seat. I sat there and pondered on the thought of me just staying home at a friend’s house or anything just to be away from my family in a car for a whole day. Parents begin to talk about what we’ll see up there. Faces of presidents on mountains, crazy horse, all the colorful mountains and the thick forests. All that sounds very boring to me. Going up...

On the first day of my journey, I started to learn something about myself. It started with taking a flight to San Francisco. This is my first time getting on a domestic plane, alone. ...I am pretty sure there are not too many car rides quite as boring as travelling across Kansas and eastern Colorado. After moving from Kansas City we’ve made the trip back and forth several times and while nothing on the long trek ever changes, one thought has always crossed my mind. Imagine, coming across these hills and fields in a wagon, with no roads, no signs, no buildings, no civilization. I can not imagine what they would have faced, but I can say that the explorers who set out on this path were courageous and adventurous. Explorers such as Zebulon Pike and Stephen Long are both examples of these brave souls. In 1806, Zebulon Pike served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was commissioned to explore a major section of the...

...For instance, the gym I travel to is the Toronto Pan AM Centre which is located near a major 401 highway and street of Morningside road. The gym is a large building that has large parking lots and is located near gas stations and the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. Just as this weeks commentary noted the location of the Pen Centre. There are multiple shopping plazas that have Walmarts and grocery stores nearby making other convenient shopping possible. Notably, the City of Toronto does not have an automobile dependence as a whole however regions like Scarborough do have an automobile dependence by developing regions on the assumption that automobile predominance is used. For instance, in Scarborough, there are many main streets and highways available to reach any given place whether that be a mall, superstores, or plazas. One major characteristic that is present...

...years of weekend trips I am like the Superman of trips, just because I know the three most important things to plan. First, pick a place that speaks to you and your party, everybody has to enjoy the trip like there is no tomorrow. Find something that is close by and easy to get to, pick a place that is no more than four hours away, if you are going to enjoy your trip, avoid spending your whole weekend travelling. Remember to take into account the time getting back home. Second, Accommodations, if you are going to enjoy your weekend, getting a place close to the action is essential. Whatever you choose, rooming nearby will help you save money and stay close to the action. For example, consider a house on the beach, it could be more expensed but you will save time getting to the beach, paying for parking fees, and a place to leave your belongings and best of all, you have a place with your own bathrooms, clean and private and that is like heaven to me Third, make a list of all the things you need to bring on your trip. No matter how absurd it is to put on your list things like the toothbrush and shampoo, those are the number one things left at home and by experience the first things to buy in a non-schedule trip to the market. Involve every member of your party on this shore like their lives depended on it. It is important to place all the things to pack in one place near by the exit door or your garage. This will save time to pack your car and to get on the road as quickly as...

...Late in the summer of 2015, merely a week before I had to go to college, we once again went on a trip to the land purchased five years prior. We packed the same RV and rode in the same vehicle as in the last trip. As we left and got on the road, I wondered what the land, that I hadn’t seen in five years, would look like and to what degree the brush had populated it. I-90 traverses from Seattle and continues east across the country. Along this highway, dense trees give way to mountain views and lakes as it climbs up to Snoqualmie pass. Snow remains visible on higher peaks that jut up out of the earth even during the summer. Mountains are visible from all around as I-90 continues through the Cascade mountains toward Eastern Washington, where the lush mountain forests give way to an arid desert plain and the roads run straight for miles on end. Sand dunes appear orange in the distance as the sun sets. Irrigated fields of grapes and various other crops flank the highway. An occasional wind farm with a multitude of...

...My spiritual journey is probably much like yours, with the main goal of trying to discover myself. What I like, and what I don’t like. What I believe, and what I don’t believe. Who I want to be, and who I don’t want to be. Although I’ve only had 21 years to work on this, I’ve come quite a long way from where I started. My grandfather was a minister, so ever since I can remember I have been attending church. It wasn’t until I was 12 however that I really found a connection to what some would call The Mystery, a Higher Power, or as I refer to it, God. There is a place in Jaffrey, NH called Monadnock Bible Conference. They run Christian based week long retreats year round for young adults, and it is here that I consider the beginning of my journey. These retreats were full of fun and games along with two worship services each day. These worship sessions were much like sermons, but catered to youth to keep us engaged. We listened to youth pastors and young adult speakers from all over the country who challenged and guided us in our faith. Along with these speakers were incredible Christian rock bands who played songs that moved us to get up and dance, and even knee down and pray. I remember attending one of the retreats right after starting 7th grade. I was overwhelmed by my new school, the peer pressure of new friends, and other typical 13 year old problems. I was listening to one of the speakers talk about how amazing God is, that when you have a relationship with him you have...
