... One event that has surprised me in the story is that Keisha has stayed with Andy through thick and thin. She let him cry on her shoulder. And he said she’s the only one he feels comfortable around. Also that she is trying to stop thinking that he should’ve died. She also encourages Andy to think on the brighter side of his life. She even went everywhere with him to Rob’s funeral, the hospital and also the trial. Keisha’s also his best friend. I’ve read another book like this called “Unbroken.” It’s about this girl that lived a long time ago. Her mother dies, and she had a hard time getting over it. Andy is just like the girl. He’s trying to get over Rob dying, but he just can’t. He got mad at Keisha for no apparent reason, at talent show. The girl in “Unbroken” gets over her mother dying, little by little, but she’s still sad sometimes. But instead of doing what the girl did, Andy got worse and worse. Andy is still in his journey with trying to get over Rob dying. The symbolism of the title is that as strong and brave tigers are, they still cry sometimes. A new title for the book would be “Tears among Death.” I think my title is more fitting because there is a lot of sadness, and, tears, and death in the story. I disliked and liked the story. I liked it because it explained how some people feel in difficult situations, like if a loved one died. I disliked it because it was a sad story and it made me cry at the part where the people write letters to...

...sets the serious tone for the video and serves as foreshadowing for later on, during her daughter’s portrayal of life. The young woman has a swift change of heart and flees the hospital in tears. This is the first example of a choice being made that greatly impacts one’s life. Her daughter is now an infant and sits crying in a baby carrier while watching her mother and father entangled in a physically and verbally abusive ordeal; which clearly shows sexism in the form of domestic violence. The video progresses and the infant is now a young girl who is visiting her father at a prison; which clearly shows the audience that he is not a good man. Fast-forward again, and the audience is presented with the young girl as a pre-teen, being molested by one of her mother’s lovers. This scene and the lyrics, “you can’t have a man look at you for five seconds without you being insecure” (“How to Love”), paves the way to the next scene where the girl is depicted as a promiscuous teenager in high school, where she is seen kissing a boy of untoward appearance with his hand around her neck. The boy’s hand around her neck symbolizes her sacrifice of self-esteem to be ‘loved’, along with the verse, “See you had a lot of crooks tryna...

...the wrong path in life. Maybe if the thieves’ in the show could have viewed something like this at an earlier time in their life, things might have turned out different for them. Rationalizing and wishful thinking is a contributing factor that prevents the thieves’ from thinking realistically about their future. Rationalization, also known as making excuses, is a way to devise self-satisfying but incorrect reasons for one's behavior. To not see reality for what is it. We all do this from time to time but the individuals in the show seem to rationalizing everything as a way to justify the bad choices they have made. Rob rationalizes his stealing in the scene where we meet his father for the first time. Rob’s father Ed works all week long and only brings home $80, which Rob describes as peanuts. To survive, you have to make extra money, is one way Rob justifies his stealing. In his mind, if he...

...Assignment 3A #1 Nature – Poker is similar to the nature issue because in the game of poker you get handed about five to six cards now they hand those to you, now you CHOOSE to put down any of those cards down. This is nature you chose they cards you wanted to play this is nature what you choose to do, and how you choose to win. Nurture – Poker is similar to nurture in a different way from nature. You are not choosing what YOU want this time they are choosing it for you. ...jock, the popular girl, the troubled child and the nerd. There are many coming of age films that have characters that play these stereotypical roles. Films such as Stand by Me, Now and Then, and The Sandlot all have characters that play stereotypical roles. Out of the three coming of age films that were watched during class,I believe Stand by Me had the most stereotypical characters that functioned to achieve the director’s purpose. The main character in the film Stand by Me is Gordie. He fits the stereotype of being the youngest child. Often times in families where there are more than one child, the younger child fits a certain stereotype. This stereotype being the neglected child. The youngest child typically has more freedom than older siblings. Also, the youngest child is always compared to their older siblings. We see this in this film with how Gordie’s parents don’t really care about him or what he does. An example is when there’s a flashback from before Gordie’s brother died and the whole family is sitting at the dinner table. Gordie’s parents are so intrigued in his brother’s life and once Gordie goes to talk, they ignore him. When they’re at the dinner table Gordie’s dad starts to talk about the football game. Gordie repeatedly asks his father for the potatoes but he is ignored. Gordie’s brother begins to talk about the story that Gordie wrote and his father blames his wife for getting him off topic and says “see what you do? You mention girls and he’s already off...

...(MIS). Fran, the New Graduate: Fran Hayden is in the final year of her Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) degree at the University of Waikato where she has proved to be a high achiever. Fran was interested in a position with Dairy Engineering because of the opportunity to gain practical experience, the higher starting salary compared to the industry average, and that her boyfriend lived in that community. Fran sent her resume to the company and two weeks later was invited to an interview with the Chief Accountant. She was surprised at the end of the interview to be offered the position of Assistant Cost Accountant. Fran said she would like to think it over. Two weeks later when she had still not replied she received a telephone call from Rob asking if she was going to take the position. ...My topic of interest is single-sex education schools and how it compares to coeducational schools. I am interested in this topic because I went to an all girl high school , so I have first hand experience. When I was in the eighth grade (co-educational, private catholic school) we were allowed to apply to three other catholic high school after taking an examination. I applied to Cathedral High School because the way they presented it was very good. It had a great science program, and internships at law offices, business companies and with doctors. This was the factor that attracted me most to the school meanwhile the other schools that were coeducational and offered similar programs were very large so that would mean less placement opportunities for students. I went to the school and regret nothing academically. I feel that I would of probably gotten the same education and to be honest perhaps it would have been better because most boy schools, and co-educational schools get better funding. I had a great time in high school, I met some very great people, I had some great teachers, and learned a great deal. It was rather easy though to hide from the realities of life. In the real world there are men and women. When you go off to college you will need to deal with guys, unless you go to a single-sex college, and there are not that many of them to begin with. Even though there are guys outside of the single-gender school environment, it is harder to interact with the opposite...

...Plenty of rappers try to help with their community. When rappers say get out of the ‘’hood’’ they do not mean leave the community in danger. All rappers rap to speak the truth, not to say that they are a threat. They speak about their background and where they are coming from. The words they use means something, and most of the time it’s positive. Rap causes teens to do violent activities such as gangs, guns, and rob to rob people Parents should prevent kids to listen to rap and plenty of topics in rap. Kids all across the U.S. have committed crimes and there first response is ‘’such and such said this is cool,so i did it’’. Kids who know better would not get themselves into that type of predicament. The kids who were raised around terrible homes and terrible surroundings are causing that kid to act out. Civilians and kids are gonna listen to rap no matter what, and there's billionaires such as white people who listen to some rap. Don’t let the focus on the lyrics of rap keep you from enjoying perfectly good...

...cortex, which damages the F-layer. 2. Sunlight. The ultraviolet light in direct sunlight affects the cuticle in a similar way to bleach, eventually breaking down the keratin protein in the hair. This can result in light streaks and dryness in damaged hair. 3. Over brushing/combing of hair. Hair is by nature fairly robust and can withstand a lot of styling abuse, but it can still be damaged by over-zealous brushing and combing, especially if it’s wet and/or tangled. Metal combs as well as backcombing can cause damage to hair as it tugs against the scales of the cuticle. Once hair has been backcombed the delicate scales of the cuticle are lifted, and the next time a comb passes over these scales they will be ripped off. 4. Heat. It really robs hair of the moisture that is crucial to its lush feel. In fact, if a heat appliance is too hot, it can actually cause the water in the hair to boil and for bubbles of heat to form inside the softened hair shaft. In response to the hair damage many women experience, shampoo and conditioner brands made...

...The Capacity for Good and Evil Does Exist in Man The central theme of the duality of man is demonstrated in The Robber Bridegroom by Eudora Welty. The world is comprised of contrasts such as light and dark, and just as there are characters who are motivated by greed, there are characters who are motivated by the love in their hearts. The duality of the character’s actions in The Robber Bridegroom prove that the capacity for good and evil exist within all people. Jamie is described as a bandit and a gentleman, he robs people in the woods, but he gifts people generously and eventually starts to think before he kills. When Jamie was still the bandit of the woods, he took the innocence of a girl named Rosamond, on page 65 the author tells the reader that Jamie, “Robbed her [Rosamond] of that which he had left her the day before.” His morality is shown on page 183...
