Robert Frost, first four- time Pulitzer Prize winner, was the best colloquial tone writer. This type of writing made his poems simple, clear and ideal. Robert conquered many hardships and persevered throughout his whole life. He took a hard road and found success. Frost is a poet no one will ever forget and his poems will forever carry on.
Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874. He lived in San Francisco with his father, mother, and sister for eleven years until his father's death. He then moved to the east Massachusetts with his mother and sister to be with his grandparents. In 1906 he decided to sell his farm, and move his family to England in 1912. There his poems were picked up and sold. In England Robert Frost was a huge hit. England was Frost most significant period in his life. In 1913 Robert Frost got his first book of poems published, by David Nutt. The book was not published in America until two years later. In 1914 he did it again and published his second book. Frost then moved back to the US to Franconia, New Hampshire as World War I begins in 1915. After returning to the US Frost starts teaching at Amherst College. In 1923 he received his first Pulitzer Prize for New Hampshire. In 1929 Robert Frost’s sister dies in a mental hospital at age 54. In 1931 Frost wins his second Pulitzer Prize for Collected Poems. Five years later Frost wins his third Pulitzer Prize and his wife is diagnosed with cancer who later dies the following year. Frost leaves his job in Amherst College and continues winning awards for his poems. Robert then moves to Cambridge, Massachusetts which remains his home the rest of his life. A decision between two things, one decision is what normally people pick. The other decision is something a very little amount of people pick. He picks the one no one would usually choose and it turns out to be the best decision he made. People can infer that this is the part in his life where he’s choosing to be a farmer or a poet. He chose to be a poet and it changed his life forever. His other two famous poems are “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, and “Mending Wall”(The Poetry of Robert Frost). “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” is a very complex poem. It was suppose to be short and simple, but many people made it out to be complex. “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, is composed of four stanzas. In an individual stanza every first, second and fourth line rhyme. The third line then rhymes with the next stanza. The poem was actually written after a situation that occurred within his family. Frost was going to the market to buy his children Christmas gifts but he realized he didn’t have enough money. He stopped along the way home and cried because he was so upset, after a few minutes his horse started jingling the bells on it’s harness and frost continued his journey back home.
