I am a city girl at heart. I enjoy a fast paced life while experimenting new ideas and activities in my life. I love the curriculum of a liberal arts school; they would provide me with the best, well-rounded education that I could benefit from. New York City is the perfect location to grow and learn while being adventurous. Barnard College is the perfect school to become the open-minded leader I want to become in the future. I am a leader, but I want to be enriched with all the opportunities that Barnard offers to prepare me for the real world. I looked through the Barnard View-book and my eyes struck at the phrase, “At Barnard, there is nothing Barnard Women can’t do.” I thought about this phrase, and thought…show more content… I glanced at the music, flipping through the pages. Composers including Dvorak, Mozart, and Schumann filled the melodious notes on the pages. My eyes paused at the words, Schumann. I thought, Robert Schumann, but no, my mind was wrong. On the upper right corner of the page was the name, Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann’s wife. That was my first encounter with the composer and pianist, Clara Schumann.
After rehearsing the piece multiple times, I was mesmerized by the simplicity and the elegance of the piece. I wanted to learn more about Clara Schumann. This meant that I needed to have a conversation with her!
I imagine having a conversation with Clara Schumann to discuss about her innovation as a rare female pianist. I want to converse with someone who made a difference in the lives of many people. She produced a new method of musical teaching that is commonly used today. I want to ask her how this method has evolved over the past two hundred years. She influenced the performance and teaching of classical music and changed how we play music today. Communicating with her would spark innovation in my ideas. Maybe, I could provide therapy with a combination of music and
