... I AM PAPER “I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE.” Craig Hardin BIBL 160-BO2 The Gospel of John February 22, 2015 In the research for the writing of this paper, I began reading a book that my grandfather read as he was studying at Carson Newman University after his ordination to preach the Gospel. In the book entitled, John’s Witness to Jesus, it states in speaking of Jesus: “in each figure of speech Jesus unfolded fresh truth about himself.” There are seven “I AM’S” in the book of John that could be written about. I have chosen to write concerning Jesus and the comparison that he made to himself as the bread. One of the most miraculous happenings of the Book of John is the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand when there seemed to not be enough food to go around. Douglas Connelly writes concerning Jesus and his miracles in John; “These miracles were not performed simply to alleviate human suffering or to meet human needs; John called them signs. Like signs pointing to the right road, Jesus’ miracles pointed to the truth of Jesus’ claim to be the Son of God.” Could we imagine what it would have been like during this time in history and to also have possibly have been a part of it as well? Gregg Matte reminds us: “In the fourth miracle-the only miracle found in all Gospel accounts-Jesus shows compassion for the people by filling their stomachs and opening their hearts. “ The Reverend Donald McCorkindale said something interesting in an article I read for this paper: “When God...

...Research Paper CS-310 Summer, 2013 People all over the world use computers and the Internet for just about everything from shopping to paying bills, and research to leisurely searching for whatever their interests lay. Computers are now in almost every school, home, and business. They have helped increase productivity and made our lives so much easier. Due to the ease computers have made, it has also opened a door for a new breed of criminal. Cybercrime is on the rise. Cybercriminals use the Internet to spread their viruses, worms, and other hacking tools, like phishing, to steal people’s identity or sign them up for expensive services, which they reap the profits. However, some of these criminals do it for thrill of the chase. According the reading CompCriminal.doc there are two types of cybercriminals, the non-professional hacker and the professional hacker. Another form a cyber-attack called the DoS attack or denial-of-service. “The attack is designed to paralyze websites, financial networks and other computer systems by flooding them with data from outside computers.” (James, 2009). The first document case of a DoS attack was in 2000 by a 15-year old Canadian boy nicknamed “Mafiaboy”. This attack was against several e-commerce sites including eBay.com and Amazon.com. There have been several other hackers prior to “Mafiaboy”. Two of the notorious cybercriminals were Kevin Mitnick and Robert Morris. In 1982, Mitnick...

...inescapable prison because it was surrounded by fifty to fifty four degree water. The island was first discovered by land in 1755 by Lt. don Juan Manuel de Ayala but had been seen by Sir Francis Drake when he docked in San Francisco bay. The prison is known for having some of the deadliest and most deceiving inmates out of any other prison. The prison has had many escape attempts but most have failed, except for one which was made by Frank Lee Morris and three fellow inmates. The island's history dates back a long time ago, but became a military institution in 1850, when president Millard Fillmore signed an order and fortified the island to protect the San Francisco Bay. The island first caught attention when Lt. don Juan Manuel de Ayala first discovered it and mapped it out in 1755. In the late 1850s the U.S. army began holding military prisoners on the island. They held the prisoners on the island because it is totally isolated and surrounded by water....

...CRISIS IN GREECE: STUDY OF THE FACTORS THAT LED TO THE CRISIS. A Research Paper: Under The Guidance of:Dr Somesh Kumar Mathur Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur Pankaj Kumar Y8333 Sanchit Singhal Y8442 Sulabh Boudh Y8513 INTRODUCTION Greece is currently facing a very severe crisis, with expectations of a sovereign default as Greece confronts with the second highest budget deficit, as well as the second highest debt to GDP ratio in the EU. The paper uses insights from the literature to offer an analytical treatment of the crisis in Greece. The crisis itself is very likely to be a result of: The gradual worsening of Greek macroeconomic Fundamentals over 2000-2009 to levels discrepant with other EU members. A shift in market expectations, from a scenario of credible commitment to future EU participation to a scenario of non-credible EU commitment without fiscal guarantees, respectively occurring in November 2009 and February/March 2010. The pricing by markets of a (previously nonexistent) default risk that follows the withdrawal of an implicit guarantee on Greek debt by other EMU countries (mainly Germany). Interestingly, our account of the 3 factors sparking and escalating the crisis also helps explain why prices on Greek government bonds have not recovered but continued to plummet following the announcement of the EU/IMF rescue plan. Our analysis suggests that the involvement of an external institution like the...

...Ethical Hacking in Today’s Society Patrick Bryant ECPI UNIVERSITY IS530 May 12, 2012 DR. BRYANT Abstract Over the years technology has advanced just as Moore’s Law has predicted. Not only does the technology double every year in a compounding way, but those who understand these concepts grow as well. These talented individuals can be looked at from several different viewpoints and depending on who that person may be could in fact determine whether it is a positive viewpoint or a negative one. In this paper I will prove why it is necessary to have Ethical Hackers in today’s security models and how they have come a long way to improve how our information systems operate in a more secure manner. Ethical Hacking in today’s Society Hacker’s for years have been able to do things that the normal individuals have never even thought of pursuing and for several different reasons. There are several different types of hackers out there, but they all have one thing in common and that is their knowledge of Information System exploits and vulnerabilities. The constant issues highlighted by the media always reporting some type of cyber crime, a study showing that nearly 90% of attacks happen on the inside (Durant, 2007). The biggest key is that of understanding the hacker’s true intention and determining whether or not it was ethical or malicious. This leads us to first understand what an ethical hacker is and help determine their purpose is a positive venture when wanting...

These countries are well developed and exist in the major countries of the world. Both have an entire different culture in reference of behavior, leadership styles and management. China is the part of eastern countries and USA is a western country, both have entirely different environment and too far from each other. There are many roles that are involved in any organization or teams are more than leadership. We can say that leadership and management styles are the major aspect of a team with cultural differences. Leadership provides us a vision of the future and energize the team to follow it. While management is to rule and procedures and whether or not followed...

...Comparability of Financial Statements Realistic Representation of Accounting Information Part:4 Findings of the Research Study Part :5 Conclusion Reference Appendix Appendix 1: Narration on Figure 1 - Qualities of Accounting Information Abstract The proposed research paper attempts to illustrate the importance of a global accounting system and the impact of standards on the global market, as well as, providing the means for comparable financial reporting for decision making by both investors and corporations. This research provides understanding about the major differences of a Rules-based and Principal Based Accounting Systems, including the benefits and drawbacks of such a shift. Proponents of principles-based accounting blame the Rules-Based Accounting System for the major accounting scandals. They believe that the Rules-Based system encourages the use of financial structuring to achieve desired accounting results, which will undermine the quality of financial reporting. Supporters of rules-based accounting argue that principles-based accounting relies heavily on judgment, which will reduce the consistency and comparability of financial information. The current study tries to make a theoretical comparison of both Principles-Based and Rules-Based Accounting Systems in the lights of the Qualities of Accounting Information expected by Society. The research aims at understanding the social...

In particular, since a firm’s formal and relational contracts and its culture and norms are quite rigid in the short term, a manager who needs to prevent an employee from undertaking the wrong action has the choice between either trying to persuade this employee or relying on interpersonal authority.1 Herbert Simon (1947) noted, for example, that “when … disagreement is not resolved by discussion, persuasion, or other means of conviction, then it must be decided by the authority of one or the other participant” and that “in actual practice … authority is liberally admixed with suggestion and persuasion.” Obviously, in choosing between persuasion and authority, the manager makes a cost-benefit trade-off. This paper studies that trade-off, focusing in particular on agency conflicts that originate in open disagreement, in the sense of differing priors. To that purpose, I will study a setting in which a principal and an agent are involved in a project. The project’s outcome depends both on decisions and on implementation effort by the agent, i.e., on effort to execute the decisions. A key issue is that the principal and agent may openly disagree on which decisions are most likely to † Discussants:...

...Heroin Abuse: Reaching to the Suburban Youth The best driving force to get informed and motivated about a certain topic is a personal experience and my motivation came when one of my best friends passed away from a heroin overdose. Almost exactly a year ago, this friend of mine passed away from a heroin overdose and none of his close friends or family even knew the problem had escalated so greatly. It had all started with a pill addiction to xanax that slowly grew more severe but with a few interventions and a couple of trips to rehab, most of us thought that he was doing well and had kicked the habit. Little did we know that he had kicked the xanax habit only to graduate to something as intense as heroin. The frightening thing about this drug is that my friend was a small, upper class, Jewish boy from the suburbs of St. Louis and would not typically be the image you think of when a person might think of a heroin addict. He was the furthest thing from an underprivileged, poor, inner city adult. But addict hew was, and it is still somewhat of a mystery to those who were closest to him as to how he was able to access his drugs. For every person that believes they know the true meaning of the word “addiction,” there is another person right beside them to argue a different point of view. In this day and age, one would think that doctors or scientists or psychologists would have narrowed it down to a universal description but this is not the case. There are many different...

...This topic was explored in Craig Haney’s paper “From Prison to Home: The Effect of Incarceration and Reentry on Children, Families, and Communities”. In it, Haney discusses various aspects of psychological impact including dependence on the institution, hypervigilance, distrust and suspicion, emotional over-control, alienation, and more (Haney 2001). Some of those released carry the traumatic effects with them into society thereby affecting the broader community. For instance, Mika’il DeVeaux, previously incarcerated in New York State’s maximum-security prisons describes, “I remain haunted by the memories and images of violence … I can still see the murders I witnessed” (DeVeaux 2013). It is important to note that some policies result in long-term effects on some prisoners and that...

...approaches in HRM of a multinational enterprise. The reader receives insight into Lincoln Electric's organization through a case-study analysis of practical HR approaches serving as a basis for developing practical managerial implications in the last part of the paper. 2. Critical evaluation of "best practice" and "best fit" practices in HRM 2.1 Best practice approach The best practice approach claims that certain bundles of HR activities exist which universally support companies in reaching a competitive advantage regardless of the organizational setting or industry (Redman and Wilkinson 2009). Best practice models imply a close connection between HR practices and organizational performance and are often associated with high commitment management (Paauwe & Boselie 2003). Empirical research in the best-practice field shows similar groups of HR polices which are especially suitable for maximizing performance irrespective of market and product strategies (Peffer 1998, Guest 2000). Best practice bundles of activities are characterized as mutually compatible HR activities which forge high levels of workforce competence, encourage motivation and introduce a workdesign boosting employee commitment (Maloney and Morris 2005). Based on concepts from expectancy theory (Vroom 1964, Lawler 1971) best practice HR will result in higher levels of quality, productivity and low rates of absenteeism and wastage (Guest 2000). yes no The best practice approach suffers...
