...What specific action should the company take in the area of inventory control? Support your proposal with an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses (15 points). The company should implement a plan. As stated in the case, there was no real plan or policy in action that supported this role within the company. This has to be done if the company wants to continue to grow. They are a growing company and have a number of different products. This is strength because they offer their customers a variety of products to choose from. Another strength would be that they have commonality amongst their products. It stated in the case that they have several products that share materials. This is a good thing because strategic sourcing strategies can be implemented here. One of their main weaknesses was the lack of inventory control. This affected their raw materials all the way to their finished goods. They lost orders, had to make smaller quantity orders to meet production needs, and have growing transportation cost. They need to make use of an ERP system like SAP in order to track all of their inventory and finished goods problems they were experiencing. Having a system like this in place will let them know, when they need to re order product, the different salvage dates and cost, and other inventory management problems that they may need to solve. What is your reaction to the argument of those who oppose tighter controls? (5 points) Tighter controls need to be kept to stop the company...

...hundred (200) pink slips in July, representing 41% of it’s staff. Fortunately, austerity measures (such as extending mandatory furlough days, enforcing voluntary unpaid time off, reducing office hours, and closing civil courtrooms) and very aggressive negotiations with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) resulted in an additional $7.5 million that was used to salvage one hundred thirty-three (133) careers. September 30, 2011 was a devastating day to these sixty-seven (67) employees, and this paper will focus particularly on the effects of this re-organization on the emotions and reactions of the Court Reporters who were directly and indirectly affected. The SFSC website defines Court Reporters as “guardians of the record”. It is emphasized that not only are they Court employees, but they are also purveyors of transcripts for all interested parties. Their main job duties are providing legislated transcripts of criminal proceedings, and providing appellate transcripts to the California Court of Appeals and to SFSC. In early February 2013, I distributed about twenty (20) surveys [see attached] to Court Reporters, mostly the ones still employed by SFSC and also a few whom were laid-off from their jobs. I received a total of thirteen (13) responses back, and from those stem the key issues of this paper. II. SCARF MODEL...

...can distract us and interfere sometimes, they can easily be shut off to allow full focus. It is the users of these devices who are at fault, not technologies. In the essay, Pinker is very much disagreeing with Carr. While Carr takes the other side and argues that technology is altering the way we think in a negative way causing us to skim through things and expect the obvious answers, Pinker believes that using technologies like PowerPoint and search engines are causing us to be smarter and gain more knowledge effectively faster. With every generation, it seems people are finding a way to say something is making us stupid for example: When comic books were accused of turning juveniles into delinquents in the 1950’s, crime was falling to record lows, just as the denunciations of video games in the 1990’s coincided with the great American crime decline. The decades of...

I will also comment on two recent Wal-Mart initiatives from the standpoints of strategy and public relations. ...CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Rock Music in the Philippines is performance arts composed in various genre and styles. The rock music of the Philippines is a mixture of indigenous foreign countries. The United States occupied the Islands in 1898 until 1946, and introduced American blues folk music, Rock &Blues, and rock and roll became popular. In the late 1950s, native performers adapted Tagalog lyrics for North American rock and roll music, resulting in the seminal origins of Philippine rock. The most notable achievement in Philippine rock of the 1960s was the hit song "Killer Joe," which propelled the group "Rocky Fellers" which reached number sixteen on the American radio charts. Up until the 1970s, popular rock musicians began writing and producing in English. In the early 1970s, rock music began to be written using local languages, with bands like the Juan Dela Cruz Band being among the first popular bands to do so. Mixing tagalog, and English lyrics. ...to do this, I needed to use negotiation skills to get the leadership team partnership and agreed upon vision and strategy. Once this was secured, I need a team of influential, get-the-job-done managers throughout the company to come together as one voice. I have written on my issue awareness, strategy to partner, tactics used to incite the business and working plan to execute. Changing Two Decades of Culture One year ago, I took a new job with the mission of improving business processes for an $8 billion Agricultural company. As I invested my time in relationship building and complete understanding of current state of business, I discovered a gaping issue that affected all business areas and ultimately, our business unit’s bottom line. The issue is excessive working capital in the direct form of excess physical inventory. The business numbers easily state the issue and once a month the leaders meet to discuss why and how to correct for the next month. My company is culturally driven and very people oriented. In many cases this is a positive. In this case, we have turned it in to a crutch. Triage and additional resources are not the answer to sustainable solutions. Sometimes you have to take two steps backward before you can move forward with confidence. As a lean continuous improvement agent, the issues are like having an elephant in the room in all meetings. The material...

...CHAPTER 9 ON Writing about a case builds on the process of analyzing a case. The case situations described in previous chapters can be used to organize essays. An essay arguing a decision is organized in a different way from one offering a problem diagnosis. The structure of problem, decision, and evaluation essays is described in chapters 10 through 12, respectively. The chapters also include cases and sample essays about them. The essays are based on the writing of MBA students. To convince a reader that a conclusion about a case is valid, the writer must offer credible evidence linked directly to the conclusion. This fact helps explain the characteristics case-based essays have in common: 1. Answers two questions—What? Why?—and often a third—How? 2. Makes a position statement (What?) OT C CHAR ACTERISTICS OF A PERSUA SIVE C A SE ESSAY OP riting about a case is very different from talking about it.You collaborate with others in a discussion, bringing to bear everyone’s background and case preparation along with the instructor’s knowledge and facilitation skills. But you usually work on your own when writing about a case. You have to perform the entire analysis yourself as well as organize and express your thinking for a reader. However, the difference between talking and writing about a case runs deeper still.Audiences have much more exacting expectations of a text than they do of spoken comments. Logical gaps and the back-and-fill tolerable in a discussion are...

...Vulnerability Assessment for Jacket-X Corporation University of Maryland University College Abstract The Jacket-X Corporation is a manufacturer of industrial-grade gloves, jackets, and other safety-related clothing applications. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Jacket-X is concerned with the current Information Technology (IT) security implementations and procedures. He has valid concerns due to reports from Human Resources (HR) stating financial issues with last year’s payrolls. Tens of millions more people are likely to be similarly displaced in the future by the effects of climate change, including rising sea levels, floods, droughts and reduced agricultural productivity. ...Drug Addiction – A community problem Chad L. Salyer In this paper I will be discussing the growing drug problem in our communities and the approach that will be used to alleviate the problem. Drug abuse has been a continuing problem in our communities and is rising at an alarming rate. It has been spreading at such a rate that it is no longer isolated in poor, middle class or upper class areas. Prescription drug abuse and heroine has become the most common forms of drugs being used by addicts and is not only a serious health problem, but is also a problem that effects the entire community. For this study I will be focusing on the individual addict and then the environment in which they live. Though there are many prevention programs that exist, it seems that prevention and Law Enforcement are not able to slow or stop the problem. Drug abuse is rising at an alarming rate and is certainly not prejudice as to who becomes a drug addict. So how can we possibly combat a problem that seems immune to all the efforts that has been brought fourth? I believe the approach should begin with the individual and changing one’s habitual thinking. Education is key to not only prevention but to those already addicted to drugs. The main research question I am exploring is if the environment plays a significant role in the cause of drug addiction. It seems that not only prescription drugs, but also illegal drugs...
