This first case was an elderly man in emergency room a doctor began asking questions if he had pain but he was too confused to provide any details. Then McGee placed his hand on the man’s abdomen that told him everything he needed to know. He’s got a rupturing aortic aneurysm. Mr. Killian survived the surgery, his life saved by a simple touch. It is the second time that I read in this book the same medical condition known as rupturing aortic aneurysm. The aorta is such a large blood vessel that, if it ruptures, death is very rapid, although the process might be slow enough to permit emergency surgery. The first symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) typically begin 2-14 days after the bite of an infected tick. A tick bite is usually painless and about half of the people who develop RMSF do not remember being bitten. RMSF is a serious illness that can be fatal in the first eight days of symptoms if not treated correctly, even in previously healthy people. West Nile virus (WNV) is most commonly transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. About 1 in 5 people who are infected will develop a fever with other symptoms. Less than 1% of infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, neurologic illness. Very interesting as the insects can cause different
