...Romeo and Juliet Analysis The topic I chose for my analysis is death and death's premonitions. In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, there were many deaths that took place. The first death that took place was Mercutio's death. Tybalt was furious because Romeo showed up to the Capulet's house party. Tybalt tried to kill Romeo, but Romeo did not want to fight back because he was married to Juliet. Mercutio couldn't stand the fact that Tybalt was beating Romeo to death, so he stepped in trying to keep peace between the two boys. Mercutio's blood drips onto Romeo's hand as he falls under Tybalt's sword. After Mercutio's death, Romeo wanted to take avenge for his best friend. He killed Tybalt and was then exiled from Verona. All of these events lead to Romeo and Juliet's death also. When Romeo saw Juliet laying on her deathbed, he killed himself because he wanted to join her. When Juliet woke up from her temporary death, she saw her love laying besides her, dead. In result of that, she also kills herself. You could see how one death affected so many people's lives after that. The handful of deaths were foretold by the characters at one point. When Mercutio invited Romeo to the Capulet's party, he knew it wasn't an articulate choice. Romeo had a nightmare that there would be two untimely deaths that would happen and his instinct was to not go to the party. When Mercutio died in Romeo's arm, he shouted out, ''A plague on both your houses...", which kind of was a foreshadow...

...Assignment 1 Romeo and Juliet Contents: Page 1 – Contents page Page 2 – Essay: Romeo and Juliet Page 4 – Bibliography Essay: Romeo and Juliet In this essay I will look at and analyse lines 1 to 30 spoken by Friar Lawrence in Act 2 Scene 3 of the play Romeo and Juliet and prove the importance of these lines towards the plot and how it acts as a premonition of the tragedy to come. I believe these lines prove to be of great importance as they lead the audience to the tragedy that is to come. These lines give the audience an idea of the events that may come to pass as the words spoken act as a premonition of the course of tragic events to come. In lines one to four of this scene, Friar Lawrence begins by describing the beauty of the sunrise, which in turn contrasts with how Romeo and Juliet had viewed the sunrise in the preceding scene. The couple see the sunrise as a sign that their night together is over and that they must now say good bye, however the friar sees the sunrise optimistically, although we know that light is not always equated with good in the play, just as night is not always linked with evil, bad or other negative connotations. Therefore light could symbolise the dark tragedy that is looming ahead of them, as opposed to something good. The friar’s optimistic view of the sunrise as something good and positive is indicative of his naivety, which proves to be of great importance in the course of the play. These four opening lines of the scene direct the audience...

...The text under analysis belongs to the tragedy genre of drama. I have chosen an abstract from the Shakespearean play “Romeo and Juliet”, especially the conversation between the protagonists. Key words of especially this abstract are “name” and “love”. They are repeated many times. And no wonder, we know, that one of the main themes of this play is unhappy love of the main characters. Concept of love is percepted by the reader in two meanings: something high and beautiful and dark, unlucky at the same time. The second word is name. Because the name is the only reason they can’t be together, they hate their names and would be happy to change them, if only they could: “ 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy” “By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am: My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself, Because it is an enemy to thee; Had I it written, I would tear the word”. As to the compositional structure, this abstract consists of dialogues, monologues and author’s remarks. It should be mentioned, that the role of author’s remarks is used to the description of the place, changing of the characters on stage. In this text remarks are almost absent: “Enter ROMEO”, “Nurse calls within”. The structure of dialogues isn’t homogeneous. Replicas of the characters are different in terms of length. It depends on the topic of conversation: when they discuss their feelings, replicas are rather long: “'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's...

...It is safe to say most people have at least heard of or have a brief understanding of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. If not, the story follows two young lovers who- through a series of unfortunate events- end up separated This ends with the infamous climax of Juliet faking her death, Romeo not faking his own death, and Juliet actually killing herself. While one could argue that the fates of Romeo and Juliet could be caused by either their own decisions or luck, I have substantial evidence that the former is more responsible. In order to have a higher understanding of the plot, there are a few things to know. There are two houses feuding in the land of Verona called Capulet and Montague. Romeo, the son of the Montagues, goes to a party to...

...First of all, Romeo ignores his instincts which is demonstrated by the numerous examples of foreshadowing within the play. His failure to listen to his inner voice ultimately leads to his own death. Romeo mentions how he fears “too early, for [his] mind misgives/Some consequence yet hanging in the stars/Shall bitterly begin his fearful date/With this night’s revels, and expire the term/Of a despised life closed in [his] breast/By some vile forfeit of untimely death./But he that hath the steerage of my course,/Direct [his] sail. On, lusty gentlemen” (1.4.107-114). As a result of Romeo’s ongoing depression and his inability to take charge of his life, he leaves his destiny up to fate. Before going to the party, he mentions how his “mind misgives”...

...“Tybalt, the reason that I have for loving you helps me overcome the anger I should really feel… I see you don’t really know me” (Shakespeare, 3.1). This quote shows that overcoming differences is a hard quality to have. When being in someone else’s shoes it is easy to comprehend other troubles. This quote relates to the theme of Romeo and Juliet because of the family’s differences that they have to overcome. Romeo is someone who acts quickly, loyal, and an impulsive character, and this leads to his death. Romeo impacts the events in many ways because he is one of the protagonists. Romeo is a character who acts out of vain multiple times and acts quickly. This leads to his inevitable death because he kills his wives’ cousin, Tybalt, and this...

...Love comes with plenty obstacles, however this plays love led to death. William Shakespeare authorized the play, “Romeo and Juliet.” Romeo and Juliet are the two main who were deeply in love with each other. This play is about how the deaths of Romeo and Juliet came to be. These two characters had to go through a lot to be together, because of the rivalry the two families had. The Capulets are the ones to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they stressed Juliet to get married, Tybalt started a brawl with the Montagues, and they expected Juliet to live up to societal expectations. To begin with, Juliet’s parents stressed her to get married at the age of 13. Lady Capulet told Juliet to get married to Paris, but that wasn’t what Juliet wanted. Lord Capulet threatened Juliet is she didn’t get married to Paris. Document D stated, “Get thee to church o’ Thursday, or never look me in the face.” If lord Capulet would’ve never threatened Juliet to get married, she would’ve never gotten so angry and left to get a potion from Friar Lawrence. If lady and lord Capulet never stressed Juliet to get married on Thursday, a lot could’ve been prevented. Juliet only wanted more time to get married, but they wouldn’t even give that to her....

...In ‘The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet’ who is to blame for the outcome, the death of the young kids, the misunderstandings? Everything that went wrong? He had seemed to be the one that helped them through it, he did marry the two after all. But in the end it is Friar Lawrence to blame. He was the one that married them without parental consent, knowing that the two both came from families of a long standing feud. He thought he was just doing the job of the Friar. But he had seen that Romeo was fast to change his mind from Rosaline to Juliet in a matter of hours. Romeo says, “Then plainly know my heart’s dear love is set on the fair daughter of a rich Capulet; As mine on hers is set on mine, and all combined, save, what thou is mine, and must combine by holy marriage… That thou consent to marry us today.” (William Shakespeare page. 410) In which the Friar replied cleary in shock of his quick change, “Holy Saint Francis! What a change is here! Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken?” (William Shakespeare pg 410.) But he ends up marrying to two anyway, instead of going with his gut. That this was a bad idea....

...Fighting in the streets, faking deaths, and death are all signs of moral decay. Also another example of moral decay would be when Tybalt confronted Mercutio and Benvolio in the middle of the road. Even though Tybalt could have waited for Romeo to arrive, which was who he was looking for in the first place, he decided to fight Mercutio. “’Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this: thou art a villain’” (119). Later on when Mercutio and Tybalt are dead more moral decay is shown because instead of already seeing that the rivalry between the two, Capulets and Montagues, is causing these tragedies they decide to banish Romeo, which was not necessarily fair. “’Immediately we do exile him hence….’” (129). If Tybalt had a little bit more moral, surely the story would have never ended in such a tragedy. Moral decay and Tybalt show how the world actually is now. There is useless fighting, killing, separation, and superiority. Tybalt is mostly part of the moral decay. He was always looking for a fight and always looking for an argument. Honestly, there is no moral in that. Like in the battle between Tybalt and Romeo, the fight could have ended before anyone died but Tybalt wanted it to go to the end. “’Romeo, away, begone! The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain’”...

...Adams begins by arguing that Romeo and Juliet is a great play to teach in schools because it contains universal themes such as love and family strife. However, she says, students with different presumed intelligence levels receive different instruction on these plays, resulting in unjust educational disadvantages for the low-tracked students because teachers assume that these students can’t process complex ideas and their lack of previous experience with difficult texts sets them behind their peers. When teaching her students, she begins by supplying the students with background knowledge so that they won’t have to spend all of their energy trying to understand the basics of the story and cause them to miss the meaning. Viewing the film version...

Romeo and Juliet met at a masquerade and fell in love with each other at first sight. The two try to meet up again. Romeo sneaks into the Capulet's garden after the party to talk to Juliet about exchanging vows. Loyalty to one's family should not take priority over all other aspects of life.
