Another reason is love, through love Romeo and Juliet die, but the reasons revenge is one of the big causes. Juliet was more angry with her father and mother to even think of the love she had for Romeo; therefore, she wanted revenge for her husband being banished and later dieing. In the play many people say that she was crazy, that's because she wanted revenge for everything that was acquiring, she was so mad she killed herself. Love was also portrayed when Romeo wanted his friend back; therefore, he wanted revenge for his friends death and killed Tybalt. Violence In Romeo And Juliet Essay

...Romeo and Juliet died next to each other from suicide; their lives being taken never needed to happen. If their families got along, they would have been happily married and alive. This play -- Romeo & Juliet-- is written by William Shakespeare. It features the politics of two feuding families and the struggles of a young couple who were born from opposing sides. From bodies piling up one by one in the Capulet tombs, to the shared grief of both houses, it is imperative that their problems could have been solved without violence, because violence is never the answer. To begin, many characters thought violence was the answer. Either by death or threats of bloodshed, they were ignorant of the problems they would cause. Prince Escalus explains...

Romeo And Juliet Love Quotes

...That which we call a rose/By any other word would smell as sweet.” (2.2.43-44) Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, it is clear that the theme is love; specifically, the influence love has on the way a person acts and feels. The quote questions the power of a name, specifically that of a rose. The quote illustrates the fact that even if one refers to a rose by a different name, it smells just as sweet. The quote develops the theme as it illustrates that when one is in love, little things such as names do not matter and that they should not influence how a person sees and loves someone. In addition, the quote also reveals that Juliet is very impetuous. Juliet is so madly in love with Romeo, that she does not even stop to think about what she is saying and how she is acting. The quote illustrates that she doesn’t find value in a name and that she is willing to push her own name aside because of love. Moreover, the quotation foreshadows later events. By saying that names have no influence over how one acts when in love, the quote hints to the reader that both Romeo and Juliet may put aside their names/titles so that they can be with each other. Furthermore, the quote also...

Examples Of Who Is To Blame In Romeo And Juliet

...The Crisis of Romeo and Juliet: Who is to Blame? Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous tragic love stories of all time. This somber masterpiece is interwoven with death, forbidden love, and fighting. Though, who is to blame for all this sorrow? As Shakespeare’s work is examined further, it is evident that all of the characters and events contribute to the dramatic ending of the play. Romeo is the character most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because he was the one who started the entire affair, his involvement caused much death, and everything he does in the play are for his own selfish reasons. First, Romeo is the character that holds the majority of the blame for the events that occur in Romeo and Juliet because he was the one who started the conflict. “Tybalt: Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, a villain that is hither come in spite, to scorn at our solemnity this night. Capulet: Young Romeo is it? Tybalt: ‘Tis he, that villain Romeo” (Rom. 1.5. 69-73) The Montague and Capulets are mortal enemies and have been for years. In this scene, the Capulets are holding a party and Romeo and his buddies decide to crash it, which causes a massive uproar. Tybalt spots Romeo and becomes furious; and this fury would last until...

Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

...Blame is the assigning of responsibility to another for a wrongdoing. People often blame people to keep their appearance, in others’ eyes, positive. In the play “Romeo and Juliet”, impulsiveness in their relationship and pressure from Juliet’s parents resulted in Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Romeo and Juliet’s impulsion throughout their brief relationship is a big factor in the couple’s downfall. Because they had only known each other for a couple days and decided to get married, they took on a responsibility they were not prepared for. Upon meeting each other at the Capulet's’ party, Romeo and Juliet had decided that they were in love. During their encounter on Juliet's balcony, several hours after the party, they decided that they wanted...

Shakespearan Tragedy

...'Death' , 'Revenge' , 'Unhappy endings' come to my mind When I think about the word 'tragedy'. What is tragedy? Tragedy is a form of drama based on human suffering that invokes in its audience an accompanying catharsis or pleasure in the viewing.(Banham 1998, p. 1118.) Then what are Shakespearean tragedies? "Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy." (F. Scott Fitzgerald) I also think this quote applies very well to William Shakespeare's works, for he has created such beautiful pieces of literature in the form of tragedies. There are several elements of Shakespearean tragedy. For example, Tragic hero, Tragic(Fatal) flaw, Internal and external conflict, Comic relief, The supernatural, The abnormality, Revenge, and Death etc. I am going to take a look at some of the elements of Shakespearean tragedy used in very famous plays, 'Hamlet' and 'Romeo and Juliet'. First of all, a 'Tragic flaw', by definition, is a personality trait that leads to the downfall of the protagonist. Hamlet is well aware of his fatal flaw from the beginning, he constantly questions himself on why he continues to delay the fulfillment of his duty. Hamlet finally acts to kill Claudius only after realizing that he is poisoned. But by putting off, his tragic flaw, leads to multiple death such as Polonius, Ophelia, Gertrude, Laertes, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern and himself, too. Second, Use of 'supernatural' elements is one of common characteristics of the Elizabethan drama. In Hamlet, the ghost of...

Romeo And Juliet: Secrecy

...The Downfall Of Romeo and Juliet: Secrecy By: Hamza Irvin Imtiaz We are involved with secrets everyday of our lives, whether we know it or not. We all experience secrecy with our loved ones, co-workers, peers, and even random strangers. Secrets may not necessarily always be a bad thing. There are certainly times when it can be much better to keep a secret than to tell the cold, hard truth. But there are also times when you just have to give in and let go of what you've been hiding. Unfortunately for Romeo and Juliet, they could just never let go, which ultimately led to their downfall. Holding deep secrets can totally mess with your brain and you as a person. A study held by Gina Roberts-Grey shows that secrets can lead to your brain’s orbital...

Romeo And Juliet Hate Quotes

...Both love and hate emotions has been contributed throughout the play of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; however, it is clearly shown that throughout the tragedy, it’s emphasised more on hate than love. The play portrays that not a single scene transpires in the play without a level of antagonism performing in the backdrop, constantly posing a caution on the characters and one that is present in the interactions of the characters. But that doesn’t mean love doesn’t play a big role in the novel. Either way, It is the hatred between the two families that makes them have to hide their love it's the hatred that makes Friar Laurence have to devise his crazy plan that leads up to Romeo and Juliet killed. Also, death not only get caught with...

With the Focus on Act 3 Scene 1, How Are Violence, Conflict and Tension Developed by Shakespeare Through Language, Setting and Plot?

...GCSE COURSEWORK- ROMEO & JULIET For my Romeo and Juliet coursework I will try to answer the question: Shakespeare uses many dramatic devices to ensure that Romeo and Juliet is a play full of violence, conflict and tension. With the focus on Act 3 Scene 1, how are these techniques developed by Shakespeare through language, setting and plot? The very hopeful tone of Act II where Romeo and Juliet got married changes dramatically at the beginning of Act III as Romeo becomes entangled in the brutal conflict between the two families. The searing heat “day is hot”, flaring tempers “mad blood stirring” and sudden violence of this scene is a abrupt contrast with the romantic, peaceful previous night. The play reaches a dramatic climax as Romeo and Juliet’s private world clashes with the public feud with tragic consequences- death of Mercutio and Tybalt. Mercutio’s death becomes the catalyst for the tragic turn the play takes from this point onwards. The choice of the setting plays a big part in the development of this tragic turn. Shakespeare shifts the setting from the privacy of Friar Lawrence’s cell where Romeo and Juliet got married to a public place where friends, honour and family ties hold sway. This setting shows that innocent people are getting hurt because of all this feuding; “civil blood makes civil hands unclean”. On top of that it suggests that the families’ feud has reached its ultimatum-it has gone from private to public. We also get the feeling that they are...

Benvolio In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

...Benvolio In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, Benvolio was and acted like the peace keeper of the play. Benvolio tried many times to either prevent a fight from happening, cool off the heat from a fight, or to just make everyone realize what they are doing is extreme or not reasonable. Benvolio was also the only other young character to not die in the story. Benvolio tried his best to keep the peace and to also protect Romeo and himself.     In the first Scene of the play, the servants of the house of Capulets and the house of Montagues enter into a quarrel. Benvolio enter into the scene and tells the 4 men to stop fighting, “Part, fools! Put up your swords; you know not what you do.” (1.1.Shakespeare) Benvolio is trying to...

Even Romeo and Juliet, considered by many as a die –hard romantic scripture actually highlights political issues. One of the main political aspects of the play was when count Paris uses his political and aristocratic power to threaten Juliet if she did not marry him. The romance provided a perfect front to front to address the rich/poor issues in the Elizabethan era, and even today we see such situations where the influential overpower the lower castes, forcing them to sometimes give up on their dreams and hopes. The relevance is uncanny and once you read the play you...

...An analysis of generic conventions in the trailers for the movies ‘John Tucker Must Die’ & ‘Mean Girls’ An analysis in terms of generic conventions in the trailers for the movies “John Tucker must die” and “Mean Girls”. Genre is defined as ‘A large category of stories united by their particular settings, characters, themes and narrative conflicts’ (Worland 2007, pg15). This assignment will look at the generic conventions a coming of age/ teen film (what we expect to see), aspects such as typical situations, stock characters, style, icons and setting. In terms of themes in coming of age (teen films) (subjects that are dealt with within the text) they tend to focus around, first love, rebellion, and conflict with parents, teen angst or alienation. In terms of what we would typically see within the genre ‘teen/coming of age’ film it is in the interest of the target audience and making the plot relatable and focus on their interests. The first trailer to be analysed is “Mean Girls”, a teen movie released in 2004. The style of “Mean Girls” is glossy, the use of high key lighting creates an expensive look and the contrast of high/bright colours makes the film more vivid and eye catching the use of the bright colours encourages a cheerful and young audience. In the first shot we see ‘Kady Heron’ in class she looks bland and has no character and is introduced as the new ‘student’ which is typical for the plot of a teen (coming of age movie) and the non-diegetic sound tracking...
