...CASE: Is the Rookie Ready? Major Issue • Tim’s management style. Tim is a terrible manager. That is the reason why his people leave the company. Tim doesn’t know whether Kristen is ready because he hasn’t managing a priority. Tim’s job is to build the organization that can build software. Course of Actions Tim is a terrible manager, because he keeps taking the best programmers and making them managers. If they want to be managers, that’s fine. But it’s not clear Kristen wants to be a manager. And, he doesn’t even push back on the customer. And, Tim has allowed a standard product without a standard install. It was a 6-week project. Why would Tim agree to a 2-week install? Sure, the customer wants it. Customers want all kinds of things. They can’t always get what they want, when they want, for the price they want. Why would Tim agree to do a special install over the holidays without asking for more money? Why would Tim even think this is acceptable to do without asking the team who will do it? Because Tim isn’t the one giving up his vacation. The fact that he even thinks this is acceptable behavior just astonishes me. It’s time to ask if this project is strategic to the company. (Where are all the other managers? Why is Tim getting this call? HBR, I can write a more realistic story than this.) Maybe this is not even a project to take on. Recommendations: • Decide if the project is strategic to the organization. Why has the customer changed their mind on what’s too...

...WEEK 10 TERM PAPER “The Rookie Chief Information Security Officer” Terri Cooks Professor Parker SEC 402 June 15, 2014 Part 1: Organization Chart When looking at the many different roles within the management of any organization’s security program there are some titles that stand out. One would be the CISO. The CISO is the executive whose responsibility is to maintain entire security backbone, both physical and digital. In an article written for the Sans Institute by Matthew Cho, “CISO Roles and Responsibilities: According to the latest information, almost sixty percent of the organizations in the United States acknowledge the existence of a CISO dedicated entirely to security (Ware). Responsibilities for these individuals include ensuring proper protection for all physical and technical aspects of the organization. Technical aspects ranging from securing communications, applications, and business systems to performing risk assessments of IT assets exposed to outsiders on the Internet. Physical aspects including non-electronic factors such as physical site access as well as drafting policies and procedures for secure daily operations. Along with overseeing the organization’s physical and technical security implementation, CISOs are also responsible for security management activities. These activities may include training others for security awareness, purchasing security products, planning for and managing disaster recovery, developing secure business and communication...

...doctor it didn’t hurt but deep down inside there was pain that he hid. Sam hid this pain because he knew that if NBA scouts for the draft found out he would not be picked early in the draft. He was doing this for his job, a better draft pick is more money. The Trailblazers needed him a lot, so they could try and deal with Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He was destroying the west and the Los Angels Lakers were their biggest competition. When Sam came out of college he was expected to be a good star in the NBA but injuries limited him to play only in 511 games out of a possible 820. He was never able to make an All-Star game. He played in 10 seasons, never playing a full season, at most 79 games. The best season statistically would have to be his rookie year, the 1984-85 season. He played in 76 games, started 62 of those. He had 2.7 blocks per game, 10.0 points per game, 2.8 assists and 8.6 rebounds per game. He had a fracture in his shin in his last year of college basketball and hid it from NBA scouts, he just played through the pain. He broke his left leg the next season. He came back from a dangerous injury. The very next season he broke his other leg. He did continue to fight, he came back from both of those injuries. But in his fourth season he revealed that he had a hairline fracture in his right tibia. He then got traded to the New Jersey Nets. He worked extremely hard to get better and to stay healthy from 1989 to 1993, even though his leg problems started when he was...

...coach Mike Brown, who was in charge of the Cavaliers when Jamison was traded to Cleveland during the 2009-10 season. * Jamison had several suitors for his services, including his hometown Charlotte Bobcats, the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors, his employer for his first five NBA seasons. For a player who has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs in 14 NBA seasons, the Lakers' chance to contend apparently was too enticing to Jamison. * The Lakers are the fifth NBA team for Jamison, who averaged 17.2 points for an awful Cavs team last season despite shooting a career-low 40.3 percent. He is averaging an impressive 19.5 points per game in his career, never scoring fewer than 15.8 points per game since his rookie season with Golden State. * Jamison could be a huge upgrade to the Lakers' bench, which repeatedly struggled to hold leads last season when the starters sat down. Matt Barnes was the Lakers' top-scoring reserve with just 7.8 points per game. * More on the...

...The Houston Rockets are planning a comprehensive evaluation of all facets of the organization at the end of this highly disappointing season that will put general manager Daryl Morey and interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff under the microscope, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN that the Rockets believe every aspect of the organization -- coaching staff, front office and, of course, their roster -- must be subject to a thorough review in the wake of Houston's slide to a 38-41 outfit that's at serious risk to miss the playoffs after damaging losses this week to Dallas and Phoenix. Houston won 56 games and reached the Western Conference finals last season. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has publicly acknowledged that Bickerstaff -- who replaced Kevin McHale in an interim role just 11 games into this season -- would have to be assessed at season's end. Significant roster changes are likewise expected, with free agent-to-be Dwight Howard widely anticipated to move elsewhere and little certain beyond the Rockets' presumed intention to reload around star guard James Harden. Sources say Morey, whose contract runs through the 2017-18 season, also faces some uncertainty in the wake of the Rockets' struggles. Morey's ever-bold approach to roster assembly won deserved kudos for bringing Harden (October 2012) and Howard (July 2013) to Houston in quick succession, but team chemistry has been a rising concern this season given the well-chronicled deterioration of the...

...Am I the only one that thinks the Houston Rockets have a puncher's chance to push the Golden State Warriors to 6 or even 7 games? Most to all basketball experts and fans have the Warriors sweeping the Rockets with ease. I don't blame them, I mean Houston did moonwalk into the playoffs thanks to the Utah Jazz coughing up that playoff spot. Kobe Bryant sends his thanks to the Jazz as well. The Rockets have been the model of inconsistency this season. Getting off to a slow start, and putting the blame on Kevin Mchale by firing him. Their stars, James Harden and Dwight Howard have been rumored to haveissues with eachother. The signing of Ty Lawson didn't work out because there was only one person on that team that was going to do all the dribbling (cough cough Harden). Their whole offensive system of shooting only three pointers and lay-ups is flawed thanks to Daryl Morey and his analytics philosophy. It got so bad this year that the Rockets had to sign exiled underachiever, Michael Beasley, who surprisingly has been playing incredible since he came back from China. Props to you Mr. Beasley for finally realizing his potential. Those are a few problems the Rockets have faced, and oh yeah, they have to play the defending champions, Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, who happened to win 73 games this season, an NBA record. Houston, we have a problem, a big problem. I am starting to rethink this whole puncher's chance. But I do really feel the Rockets can make...

...Solman Nasseri Professor Vanderklein BIOL 213-04 30, September 2015 Newspaper Article 2: Sports The world is a very cruel and dark place that can sting really badly at times, especially in regards to sports. The article written by Victor Mather Another Injury For Derrick Rose, More Waiting By the Bulls can be seen as an allegory, which means it can be either seen from two different perspectives, one from a sports analyst or one from an ecologists perspective and in this case we will relate it to Ecology. One of the NBA’s most famous and notorious franchises in NBA history the Chicago Bulls, has had another setback with the upcoming season. Their star point guard Derrick Rose has suffered a facial fracture. Now we might ask ourselves how this could be seen to relate to ecology. First and foremost “The N.B.A. is a superstar-driven league” (1 Mather). With this said I can relate it to ecology in the sense that this sport like any other is survival of the fittest (not in regards to reproduction of course, but to which team and its players can stay the healthiest and thrive to move on). Secondly, the teams always with more talent and superstars always have gone the furthest and have always succeeded while the weaker teams have gone unnoticed and eventually die off. Exactly how nature works as well the stronger live and the weaker die off. Now Derrick Rose is that key link for the Bulls to cross that line between strong and weak. Every time he has managed to stay healthy he has...

...DOPING IN SPORTS Have you ever played a sport that you worked on your whole life, then lost to someone who used steroids? Well you’re not the only one, over 78% of past and current athletes are on or used steroids. I say steroids should be banned from sports for good and I also have some reasons why. Reason 1, they become stronger than an average human bean. Steroids make your muscles and brain grow faster than a normal human’s rate. This causes outbreaks of strength, aggression, and unreal muscle mass. Reason 2, it’s unfair to others who work out. Athletes like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Ray Rice, and Kevin Durant work out daily and eat right. Others like Shawne Merriman, Jose Canseco, and Barry Bonds would eat unhealthy, then take steroids. Reason 3, it causes illness and deformation. Illnesses like Gynecomastia and HIV can be caused by steroids. Also it can cause heart and kidneys failure, development stunt, balding, high blood pressure, malfunctions and more. I know some people might say using steroids is easier than working out on regular basis. This is true, but it is not worth getting ill or losing a dream, because they were too lazy to work out. They will regret using steroids, instead of getting active. I say that the athlete who used or is using steroids should be banned from the league they were in. It’s unfair, unsafe, and heartbreaking to people everywhere. People lose their dreams and their lives, while the factories who make steroids make money. Don’t...

...Curry is having an off couple weeks with his shot, not merely a forgettable Game 2 as a large part of the 95-93 overtime loss to the Cavaliers that will never be forgotten around here if the Warriors don't respond to the challenge of a 1-1 Finals heading to Cleveland. This is shooting at the worst possible time. He was 7-for-18 in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals in Houston, the night of the ugly crash landing in the second quarter. He was 7-for-21 in Game 5 while still sore and wearing a shooting sleeve part of the time as the Warriors reached the Finals for the first time in 40 years. Following the rest of seven days off after Golden State and Cleveland both quickly wrapped up their series, Curry looked fresh in the opener of the championship series on Thursday, making 10 of 20 shots and scoring a team-high 26 points as the Warriors won in overtime. I chose this article because i love sports and mainly basketball, and i was watching these games as i was doing this currents event project, but i also chose this article because like the team Golden State Warriors and i also like Stephen Curry. But more importantly i chose this article because i do not like Cleveland Cavaliers nor do i like Lebron James and seeing him and his team lose to this game made me pretty happy. My Christian perspective on this article doesn’t really change aside from the fact that all of these teams not only playing in these major professional leagues but just anyone that plays sports in general...

...The city of Oklahoma City has experienced a great loss this summer, they have lost something that can never be replaced and that they may never be able to recover from. This thing or should I say, this person was someone the city has built itself around and the person who represented all of what Oklahoma City stood for. Oklahoma City was honest, tough, both physically and mentally, and had the qualities of a great leader or so that’s what we thought this person stood for. This individual was the center piece of an entire city and was the hero and champion that Oklahoma City. As of now this person has turned his back on the city he once called home and has taken his talents to the west coast. This individual is none other than Kevin Durant. Just because Oklahoma City has lost their hometown hero doesn’t mean it has lost hope. Kevin Durant’s leaving gives the opportunity for another leader to step up and that person is the one and only, Russel Westbrook. “The Thunder's decision to sign Westbrook now comes out of necessity. Durant announced his intention to sign with the Golden State Warriors on July 4. In the month since, the Thunder have tried talking Westbrook into renegotiating and extending his contract, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com.” (Conway, 2016) The article was written by Tyler Conway states how the Oklahoma City Thunder finally came to a financial conclusion with their star point guard Russel Westbrook. The final decision was that Russel Westbrook would get paid the...

...High Cap Players ($8000 - up) Kevin Durant vs. HOU ($10,400) - KD is returning to form and the Rockets are allowing around 40 fantasy points a night to small forwards. Sounds like it could be a big night for Durant if the Rockets can keep it close. LaMarcus Aldridge vs. NYK ($8300) - Coach Popovich gave Aldridge a pep talk before last night's game and paid off (50 fantasy points). I think Aldridge carries that over to his matchup tonight and takes advantage of the Knicks’ power forwards. Mid Cap Players ($5,000-$8,000) Ricky Rubio vs. POR ($7,700) - Rubio has a great matchup tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers, who give up the second most fantasy points per game to point guards. It could be another big night for Rubio Michael Carter-Williams vs. BKN ($7000) - MCW is a pretty safe bet tonight, he has put up at least 28 fantasy points in all of three games this season. Plus, he also faces a bad Nets defense that will likely have issues with his size at point guard. Serge Ibaka vs. HOU ($6,900) - Ibaka is coming off his best game this season (41 fantasy points) and is facing a banged up Houston front court. Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. BKN ($6,500) - The Greek Freak has started the season with a 40 point fantasy game and a 35 point fantasy game, not bad for someone priced at $6,500. Low Cap Players ($5000 - under) J.J. Redick vs. PHO ($4,900) - I wasn’t in love with a lot of the shooting guard matchups until I saw that Reddick put up 23 points on 8-9 shooting in...

...Special Event Rookie Bowl 1.0 Executive Summary Every January the National Football League (NFL) presents its premier sporting event (the season final) of every year in a major city of the United States. 2.0 Situation Analysis 2.1 Market Summary Rookie Bowl could be operated as a pre Super Bowl event which is worth more than 4 million. Nowadays, events like Super Bowl, NBA All Stars are becoming a big market of advertisments and a deep pool of winter money. Budweiser, as beer brand of the U.S. is a suitable sponsor of all beer beverage provider at the stadium. Automobiles manufacturers, Network carriers (AT&T, T-mobile, or Verizon) are eager to release their special ads for this special event. H&M released its new advertisement that starred by David Beckham about Men’s underwear at the break of Super Bowl this year. As we can see here, although Rookie Bowl is a smaller scaled competition but it is still constituted by League players who are encouraged to become famous at such a night by performing a wonderful game without saving their efforts. 2.2 SWOT Analysis 2.2.1. Strength First of all, it costs less than operating a big event like Super Bowl. It costs less to broadcast by various TV broadcasters, like CBS, TNT or ABC, one or two specific broadcasters or cable companies can license the live. Secondly, it still attracts a lot of audiences because it is played by League Rookie players who mostly drafted from College football teams. People would...

...Ben Simmons would seem like the best rookie coming into the league because of his numbers in the summer league and since he was the 1st overall pick, but he might not be. There are a number of other players who can become the leaders on their teams and dominate against other teams including Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown, Kris Dunn, and finally Tyler Ulis. Ben Simmons is going to rock the league with his unstoppable ability to drive to the rim, incredible passing ability, and finally his vision and basketball IQ. What will hurt Simmons the most, is the fact that he is on the worst team in the league. He will have to play with a young core with no real leadership. I think this will hurt him the most because he has no real solid core to fall back on and be able to thrive and win games with his team. I think he will individual become the best rookie in the league and win the Rookie of the Year, but he will not help out the 76ers side until maybe one to...
