It begins with a couple named Mr. Daldry, and Mrs. Daldry, Mr. Daldry thinks that his wife Mrs. Daldry is ill with some kind of illness that made her not like what she used to be in their sex life, so they went to see a doctor named Mr. Givings. Mr. Givings had invited something called vibrator, and he thinks that it will help patient with their sex life, but he doesn’t relies that his own wife Mrs.Givings have the same illness as Mrs. Daldry . The play is more like a dark comedy mixed with sad drama, you laugh and at the same time you feel sorry for the characters, like when Mrs. Givings said to her baby that she will find him a nice wet nurse with healthy milk, and then she was near tears, but she recovered. The play in the nearly end turned to be more serious. The set will be divided into two rooms, the doctor office and the lobby. At the play's climax, the actors step through the imaginary wall dividing the rooms to create the third and final scene, outdoors in the snow. Snow is used throughout the play as a symbol of love. There is couple of things that I think might be difficult to approach during the play. The first thing is the dividing the stage into two rooms. To solve this problem we will need to have a large stage that can be divided into more than two rooms. The second problem is to let the audience feel and what the...

...The living room is one of the pieces, not to say THE room, where the decor must be the most studied. And when it comes to updating its interior decor, it is sometimes question of changing the furniture. But what colors of furniture to choose? This choice will be based on the color of the living room and the atmosphere you want to create! However, this answer is simple at first, but hides many details not to minimize not to miss the decor of the room in general! So, here are the color schemes to do to perfect your decor! What color for the living room walls? The living room is the room where we spend the most time. It is therefore customary to choose a light color for the walls of this room. This light color will bring space to the room by the fact that the sunlight will pass easily. Opt for colors like beige and off-white for that. Thus, your living room will have more square meters than it has and it will feel comfortable. The other advantage with these two clear colors for the wall is that it will be easier to install the alarm system for the chosen house on alarmania.frfor example, so that we do not see it too much. Indeed, most of the alarm systems are white, it is advisable to choose a color that...

...I spend most of my days in a hot, crowded room that is filled to the brim with clutter, always on the verge of collapsing. There is, without fail, always something on the floor that could be classified as a tripping hazard. The cabinets are cluttered with things that never get used and just collect dust. I spend most of my days in the band room and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The band room is my escape from reality and the stress of everyday life and is instead a place where I can just focus on something is more than just a hobby or an occupation- it is my unrelenting passion. Music is something more. Music is the class full of mistakes and that’s okay. Music is being immersed in a cloud of beautiful melodies and perfect harmonies. Music is getting so lost in the ear splitting screech of the metronome that everything else just seems to fade away once the familiar sound starts to invade your eardrums....

...Light rain started to sprinkle as George scampered through his front door. “I’m so tired!” George said, who had just gotten home from a two hour soccer practice. Sore all over, he just wanted to go to bed. However, as George entered his bedroom, he tripped over his heavy math textbook. “Ugh!!!” he exclaimed as he stumbled over other school supplies. George turned the light on to discover his room a mess (more than usual), his backpack lying open on the floor, and all his school materials scattered across the room. Already exhausted, George grudgingly picked up his school supplies. “At least mom didn’t see this,” George thought to himself. But then he had a moment of realization, “Wait, didn’t I leave my backpack closed before I left for soccer practice?” After pondering this for a few minutes, he then came to another...

...Didin Hasanbelliu Prof. Baker Wilson English 2 01 12 March 2015 Society’s Influence Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin is a perfect example of how society affects people’s decisions. The story is mainly about David a white American who moves to Paris, France, in search of his identity. In Paris he meets Hella, a white American woman which he becomes engaged with later in the story. At the beginning of their relationship, the two face some problems in which Hella is not sure if she wants to merry David or not, so she decides to go to Spain for a while to gather her thoughts and make a decision. During this time, David gets into an affair with Giovanni an Italian bartender that he meets in a bar in Paris. The decisions of these three characters are being affected by society they live in continuously in the story. In the novel the main character, David, is being affected greatly by the society he lives in. That is the reason he decided to move to Paris in search of his own identity. David is in constant denial over his homosexuality and refuses to embrace it due to the way of thinking of the American society that he grew up in those years. These ideas prevented David from expressing himself and made him try to be someone who he is not. He’s first homosexual encounter is the first evidence in the novel of how he was affected by this ideas of this society. We see this at the beginning of the book when he has sex with his friend Joey when he was a teen, as he describes it...

...ENGL-154 Paper #2 Aarthi Ramesh ‘David’s Un-Happy Ending’ Loneliness is a central theme governing the interactions of the characters pertaining to the novel, Giovanni’s Room. David’s words are a source of wisdom for why loneliness so frequently follows the actualization of love. He says, “With this fearful intimation there opened in me a hatred for Giovanni which was as powerful as my love and which was nourished by the same roots” (p 84). Baldwin perhaps is trying to hint at the thin line separating what we perceive as love from that which we perceive as hate. Similarly, we can identify these components within the pages of Baldwin’s novel. In David, we find a most emphatically unpleasant and disagreeable protagonist; he is often seen as unsympathetic, and almost cruel. Yet, depictions such as, “I felt sorrow and shame and panic and great bitterness” paint a picture of an individual to whom, we must all admit to being able to relate. This stylistic quality, noted by its use of subtlety and skill of realistic depiction of certain elements of personality that are irrefutably universal, and consequently human, betrays a prose that is characteristically, and uniquely, Baldwin. Such being the case, we find in David, a protagonist who is simultaneously intriguing and reprehensible; the consequence of which is an engaging narrative of self-discovery. This curious dichotomy of emotions that David’s character evokes within...

It’s just that the benefits of their nudity far outweigh that concern.” Miss Devasquez was able to keep from laughing, but she couldn’t help a smile. ...\ The Chinese Room Argument The Chinese Room argument was developed by John Searle in the early 1980’s. The argument was designed to prove that strong artificial intelligence was not possible. While the argument itself is flawless, John Searle’s opinion that strong artificial intelligence is impossible is not. The Chinese room argument is really more of a thought provoking experiment. You are asked to imagine an English speaking man in a room, within this room there is nothing but tools to which he can translate Chinese symbols. The man in the room is passed these symbols through a slit on one side of the room, and using his tools he must translate them. Then, he passes the translations through the slit in the other side of the room, and to the people outside the room it looks like he understands Chinese. Searle’s argument is that just because it looks like the man understands the Chinese symbols, and has the tools to translate the Chinese Symbols, doesn’t mean he actually understands the symbols. Within this argument the man represents a computer. The symbols are given to the computer, the computers programming allows the computer to translate the symbols, and the computer gives an answer. At no point does this imply the computer understands the original information it was given. The computer was simply programmed to be able to function as such(Gams 231). Using words and substituting the word Computer for Strong Artificial Intelligence the argument would sound...

...machine” being able to think the same manner as the human does is erroneous. Searle uses his famous “Chinese Room” thought experiment as an example in his reasoning to establish his justification. Furthermore the experiment is proposed to disprove “philosophical position” that Searle called “strong AI (Artificial Intelligence).” Searle’s “thought experiment” starts with this theoretical proposition: assume that “artificial intelligence” has been successful in developing a computer that carries on as though it comprehends Chinese. It takes Chinese characters as data by following a guideline of a computer programs, generates other Chinese characters,...

...A Room Of One’s Own It has been eighty-three years since Virginia Woolf spoke at Newnham and Girton on the subject of women and fiction A Room of One’s Own, and though the context seems at times irrelevant to the world in which we live today, we must remember our roots in society. In reading the essay, A Room of One’s Own, we are able to better understand the turmoil and frustration of the female artist of the early twentieth century. Woolf’s writing is meant to be understood by all women, in A Room of One’s own the narrator says, “Call me Mary Beton, Mary Seton, Mary Carmichael or any other name you please—it is not a matter of importance”(Woolf 5). This quote is an example of Woolf’s attempt to universalize the words in the essay so that they could potentially apply to every woman who read them. I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Woolf’s use of the English language as an art from, and I believe this style was key to the essay’s success, and one of the reasons A Room of One’s Own is still in print today. Among other reasons we can still understand and find relevance in A Room of Ones Own, is the groundbreaking ideas in the essay. In her own way Virginia Woolf took on the establishment, and tried to give a voice to those who had none. In correspondence between Woolf and her friend G. Lowes Dickinson, she writes that her goal for this essay is to "encourage the young women--they seem to get fearfully depressed." (Woolf xiv) Throughout A Room of One’s Own, a few major ideas really were...

...In this essay I will argue that John Searle’s Chinese Room does not refute the possibility of strong AI. The thought experiment goes something like this: Imagine you are a monolingual English speaker in a room with boxes full of Chinese symbols, and a guide book that maps sequences of symbols to other sequences of symbols. You receive a piece of paper with symbols on it from outside the room, the input, and, using the guidebook, the program, arrange and pass different sets of symbols out of the room. Unbeknownst to you, the symbols you pass out, the output, are carrying on a fluent Chinese conversation with a person outside of the room. Strong AI is the position that a computer running a sufficiently advanced program could generate mental states that are identical to those generated by humans, that is, the AI would be conscious in the same way we are. Contrast this with weak AI, which merely mimics human behaviour, without the corresponding mental states. Searle maintains that any system that operates in a purely syntactic manner will never be intelligent in the same manner a human is,...
