The Rosie Sorrells School of Education and Social Services (ESSM) has made it to the quarterfinals on multiple occasions, but that is where we have stayed. We are always a few points away from making it to the next round which sometimes hurts us as we try to think of what was it that the team needed help on to deliver a better presentation. We have done quite a bit of work with regard to making a cohesive argument; however, there is much that we as a team can do to achieve our goals for the upcoming season. What we have been doing in the off season and will continue to do so throughout the next season is work with certified attorneys. Through the work with attorneys, we are able to become more confident in doing certains actions that used to give us trouble such as objections. With work with the attorneys, our coach, and our members, we are able to learn more objections which are unknown to us and the proper way to use them. We also feel more confident with regards to being in objection battles and finding the right response to certain objections. We are also more confident in admitting evidence with ease as we make sure to every single point so objections should never be the problem when it comes to evidence. We also feel more at ease with speaking out loud and moderating our speech to make our questioning/opening/closing seem more informational and persuasive. Apart from extensive work with partner attorneys, we plan to work with one another to increase the chemistry of the team and increase confidence in everyone to assure the absolute best comes out of each member in the team. With the attorney sessions and the team boost, we will surely have a case that is strong and could lead us to the next round, but our work has to be tested before we can move on to district competition.
