...INTRODUCTION James Oranth, the vice – president of Nupath Foods Inc. was very much satisfied with the latest sales figures of the company. He was pleased with the successful marketing campaign of the sagging sales of Prowess cat food as the Sales volume of the product has increased by 20 percent in the past quarter compared with the previous year. The market share was up as well. The improved sales of Prowess were credited to Denise Washington who was the brand manager for cat food at Nupath. She was a very promising employee of Nupath as she has shown her talent in only two of her work in the company. Now, James Ornath wanted to reward her by promoting her to the recently vacated position of Market Research Coordinator. The job would give broader experience in some high profile work, which will enhance her work at Nupath. It must be noted that Ornath’s career boosted by working in the same post at Nupath several years ago. When James Ornath told Denise about the promotion, she was shocked ashen thought being a brand manager would bring her success more in top management level as the job involved directly to the company’s profitability. She was now in an odd situation and did not know what todo? The aim of this report is to carry out a strategic analysis of Denise Washington and to sort out her problem with Nupath Food Inc. from the evaluation of the case study and as well as related external research. The report consists of the SWOT Analysis model. BACKGROUND Denise Washington...

...GOMEZ MONTENEGRO LAYOUT 5/18/10 11:46 AM Page 92 CONSUMER COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKING Wireless Home Automation Networks: A Survey of Architectures and Technologies Carles Gomez and Josep Paradells, Technical University of Catalonia ABSTRACT Wireless home automation networks comprise wireless embedded sensors and actuators that enable monitoring and control applications for home user comfort and efficient home management. This article surveys the main current and emerging solutions that are suitable for WHANs, including ZigBee, Z-Wave, INSTEON, Wavenis, and IP-based technology. INTRODUCTION In recent years, wireless sensor and actuator networks have gained high momentum, receiving significant attention from academia, industry, and standards development organizations. One of the primary application domains of this technology is home automation. Wireless home automation networks (WHANs) enable monitoring and control applications for home user comfort and efficient home management. A WHAN typically comprises several types of severely constrained embedded devices, which may be battery powered and are equipped with low-power radio frequency (RF) transceivers. The use of RF communication allows flexible addition or removal of devices to or from the network and reduces installation costs since wired solutions require conduits or cable trays. However, the dynamics of radio propagation, resource limitations, and the mobility of some devices...

...#1 Alaska Sees Asia Driving Annual $20 Billion Via Pipeline This article by Edward Klump on Bloomberg.com discusses the market of natural gas that Alaska’s North Slope has in reserves and the need of this valuable commodity in regards to the countries of Asia, especially China. The state government of Alaska and large natural resource and exploration companies including Exxon Mobile Corp, BP Plc., and ConocoPhillips are currently planning construction of the transportation pipeline and the facilities needed to compress the natural gas into liquid and ship it to their potential consumers. The article states that this venture would generate as much as $20 billion in annual LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) sales. The 800-mile pipeline project from northern Alaska to a southern port may cost $20 billion to $26 billion; about three times as much as TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone pipeline proposal to link Canada’s oil to the U.S. Gulf Coast, according to a 2010 estimate of the Alaska project. Industry estimates have also pegged Alaska’s Liquefied Natural Gas total project cost at $40 to $50 billion, factoring in a pipeline and liquefaction plant. (Klump 2012 Paragraph 9-10) Alaska’s marketing of the reserves to the lower 48 states has been slowed by technological advances in the process of fracking to obtain natural gas within the continental US. Fracking is the process of drilling deep into shale strata and fracturing the material to release the natural...

...analysis shows that UPS is actually positioned as a domestic (U.S.) ground shipping company, instead of being the primary coordinator of the flow of goods, information and funds throughout the entire supply chain on an international basis, as UPS perceives themselves. UPS is the follower in the overnight (express) deliveries segment. Therefore the marketing plan recommends gaining market share in that segment by withdrawing market share from FedEx, which is the market leader in that segment. Therefore, UPS should target companies (such as hospitals, finance companies etc.) and households who are currently using FedEx for urgent freight. In addition, UPS should also position themselves in the international shipping market. Therefore, they should target global manufacturing companies where UPS can handle storage, tracking and shipping on a worldwide base. The major strength of UPS is its ubiquitous US ground network, which was built more than 90 years ago and is six times bigger than that of FedEx’s. UPS can reach virtually every address in the U.S. In addition, UPS figured out how to under-take quick mid-distance deliveries - as far as 500 miles in one night - by truck, which is much less expensive than by air. One should also consider that UPS has much better operating margins in air deliveries than FedEx. Therefore, is it absolute feasible to gain market share in the overnight (express) segment. To push this idea UPS should establish an alliance with Wal-Mart in order to set...

...Civil Aviation Policy – Consultation with stake holders Civil Aviation sector in India has soared to great heights in the last few years. However, the aviation industry’s growth will need proper policy orientation to ensure systematic, sustainable and orderly development. Hence, it is imperative that a clearly defined, long term civil aviation policy is formulated. ...Assignment #1 1. What symptoms exist to suggest that something has gone wrong? There are a few key observerable symptoms that things had gone wrong when Syd Gilman (Vice President of Marketing) was speaking with Rochelle Beauport. The “red flags” that I found in this case are: * Syd failed to recognize Rochelle’s reaction to the news as he was too focused on the belief/expectation that Rochelle would perceive the marketing research coordinator position as a career advancement; * As a result of Syd’s expectation of how Rochelle would respond to the new position, he misinterpreted her negative reaction as a positive “surprised” reaction; * Rochelle viewed the new position offered as a “backroom” job and believed it was due to her visible minority and her gender; * She believed that she was getting sidelined and removed from the company’s bottom-line activities; * She believed that the position of marketing research was not the route to top management; * Syd assumed that Rochelle’s surprised reaction was because of the great career opportunity he was presenting to her when in reality Rochelle perceived this offer in the completely opposite way; * Exit – Rochelle felt dissatisfaction with her previous employer that ultimately lead her to leaving the company, and is now starting to feel the same dissatisfaction and is considering leaving Hy Dairies Ltd.; * Voice - after some reflection she is now contemplating whether or not to talk to Syd...

...ABSTRACT Bus service is the main mode of transportation in Chennai. By this service, public are able to travel to anywhere and any places in Chennai. This leads to increase in bus routes which cause confusion to bus users. Although, at present, many routing information systems have been implemented but none of them provide the passenger travel information that they require. As a consequence of the shortages of such significant information, the current bus information services cannot fulfil users need. Current bus information services are based on GPS and operated in licensed frequency band which requires a high implementation and operation cost, these systems are used to provide travel-time approximation only. This paper proposes a system, Real Time Empirical System of Bus Service that can provide valuable information not only bus routes, also provides information of buses based on destination to the passengers. This system is aimed to reduce the operative cost of the existing system. The implementation of Real Time Empirical System of Bus Service involves use of Zigbee and RFID communication technology. This system is operated in 2.4GHz which is ISM band and no external network backbone is required for transmission and reception. iii TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER N o.
