Overview:
This was a true event that happened in history, but it also presents the way of salvation to us today in simple explantion.
• In chapter one, we see Ruth deciding to follow Naomi and to adopt Naomi's people as her people and Naomi's God as her God. "Where You Shall Go, I Shall Go, Your God shall be my God"
• In chapter two, we see Ruth working and serving. It's a picture of our role as believers in Christ, and God's providence to his believers though a savior.
• In chapter three, we see Boaz marrying Ruth and saving her from her suffering, and it's a beautiful picture of how Christ rescues His people from sin. Boaz, from Bethlehem, is often referred to as "the kinsman redeemer".
• In chapter four, we see Ruth enjoying a bountiful reward and inheritance that she didn't earn. It was given to her by grace.
Today, we are looking at Chpater 2. This is a beautiful love story between a man and a woman. . … and between a God and His people.
Ruth Chapter 2
Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side named Boaz. He was a prominent man of noble character from Elimelech’s family.
2 Ruth the Moabitess asked Naomi, “Will you let me go into the fields and gather fallen grain behind someone who allows me to?”
Naomi answered her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So Ruth left and entered the field to gather grain behind the harvesters. She happened to be in the portion of land belonging to Boaz, who was from Elimelech’s family.
4 Later, when Boaz arrived from Bethlehem, he said to the harvesters, “The Lord be with you.”
“The Lord bless you,” they replied.
5 Boaz asked his servant who was in charge of the harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?”
6 The servant answered, “She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab. 7 She asked, ‘Will you let me gather fallen grain among the bundles

Ruth

...Ruth, My love I find it hard to express my momentous feelings for you in the short scattered, conversations we must resort to. I pondered on this problem for days on end, until I thought to write you a letter. I gave it to you myself since those post office fools are not to be trusted. After finding a way to express myself I had to find out how to express myself. Please bear with me since I know you are not much of a reader. Ruth, as you walk this earth our country is still young, and there is still hope of a rebellion. Your generation could be our last hope, and if you manage to overthrow our unwanted leader we could marry and spend our time together without worry. I long for the day where we have our own bed and our own room without the menacing television on the opposite wall. I picture your face on everything I see in a day. Your silky soft long dark hair and your young fresh body which I can never get enough. You have awoken in me a love I have never known before. All my life I have longed for companionship and with you I get that and much more. You are my world, Julia, you make this barren, colorless world habitable, and with your courage we can make it bright and vibrant again! If we fail, however, we fail together, but they cannot take away our love. The party cannot reach inside of us and pull out our powerful love. As I wait for your arrivals above Mr. Carrington’s shop, I know that we will one day part, but I also know that when we part we will always remember...

...A little history: This story actually began some years prior when Naomi and her husband Elimelech, fled their hometown in Judah to escape famine. They also had 2 sons which fled with them. They moved to Moab, which was a town that was polytheistic and did not serve the same God that Naomi’s family served. One day, Naomi’s husband died and she was left with only her 2 sons. Well Naomi’s 2 sons eventually married 2 women of Moab named Orpah and Ruth and they lived there for about 10 years until Naomi’s 2 sons died. So Naomi fled her native country to flee certain death due to famine and ended up losing her husband and her 2 sons. Back in that time, the man was the security for the woman. So after the tragedy of losing her family, Naomi heard that the famine in her native land was over and that the Lord was blessing His people, so she decided it was time to return; however, she also had her daughter in laws with her and they decided they would return with Naomi to a land they had never been to. In the midst of their journey, Naomi stopped and told the daughter in laws that they should go back home to their mothers in the land of Moab. She offered up a prayer that the Lord would bless each one of them by being kind to them because of the kind spirit they had in dealing with their deceased husbands as well as Naomi in her time of need. She also prayed that they would find security in new husbands because Naomi knew that men provided security for women and she wanted...

...11/11/13 Ruth Paper Ruth: The Story of Unconditional Love “Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. You’re people will be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die. And there will I be buried. May the Lord deal with me, however so severely, if anything but death separates you and me” (Ruth 1:16-17). Throughout the book of Ruth the reader will find the main themes to be unconditional love, dedication, and loyalty. Ruth was a Moabite. The Moabites where cursed by the Lord because of their beginnings, (the story of Lot and his daughters after the annihilation of Sodom and Gomorrah) and also because of their pagan beliefs. The people that were from Bethlehem were Hebrews, and worshipped the God of Israel. To the people of Bethlehem, Ruth was a pagan outsider that had no relations apart from her mother-in-law, and definitely no man to speak for her. She was hard-pressed to find food for Naomi and herself. She went out to the fields to collect wheat, and found a field that belonged to a man named Boaz. She was scared of the men in the field, so she would work hard and only would stop to rest once or twice. Boaz noticed her, and asked after her. That night she took the wheat home that Boaz gave her, and told Naomi of what had happened. Naomi told Ruth that Boaz was their kinsman, it held great meaning for them both. As time went by, Naomi told Ruth that she would do her best to find a new husband and house for Ruth. She then gave Ruth some very...

The Story of Ruth

...The Book of Ruth: The book of Ruth is a poetic and beautiful monomyth that focuses on the journey of a brave young widow, completely committed to her mother in law, as she moves to a different town, faces poverty, learns to glean, falls in love and marries and eventually becomes the great grandmother to King David, sealing her place in the lineage of Jesus. The main themes of the book of Ruth are friendship, family, and God’s plan. Ruth was a servant to her mother in law, doing all she could to make sure Naomi was cared for and properly looked after. She trusted Naomi completely and followed her directions to the letter. Naomi was caring and wanted to make sure she saw her daughter in law cared for in the way Ruth had always been caring to others. She instructed Ruth on how to get Boaz to marry her and how to seal her fate in a wealthy household. The author of Ruth isn’t actually known but some believe it to be Solomon (source). The time of the writing also isn’t clear but it is believed to have been between the years 1021-924 B.C. There are many things we don’t know about the origin, actual date, writing, author of this book, but we can agree there is a simple beauty to the words and the imagery created in this text. This book plays a key role in furthering the line of David and therefore the lineage of Jesus. The Story of Ruth: The story of Ruth is one filled with hardships and victories. She, to me, has always been on of the most fascinating people in the entire Biblical...

Babe Ruth

...George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948), was an American baseball outfielder and pitcher who played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1914 to 1935. Nicknamed "the Bambino" and "the Sultan of Swat", he began his career as a stellar left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees. Ruth established many MLB batting (and some pitching) records, including career home runs (714), slugging percentage (.690), runs batted in (RBIs) (2,213), bases on balls (2,062), and on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.164), some of which have been broken.[1] He was one of the first five inductees into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. At age seven, Ruth was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, a reformatory where he learned life lessons and baseball skills from Brother Matthias Boutlier, the school's disciplinarian and a capable baseball player. In 1914, Ruth was signed to play minor-league baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. Soon sold to the Red Sox, by 1916 he had built a reputation as an outstanding pitcher who sometimes hit long home runs, a feat unusual for any player in the pre-1920 dead-ball era. Although Ruth twice won 20 games in a season as a pitcher and was a member of three World Series championship teams with Boston, he wanted to play every day and was allowed to convert to an outfielder. He responded by breaking the MLB single-season home run record in...

Judges and Ruth

...Contrast the moral and responsible behavior of the Israelites between Judges 16-19 and Ruth 1-4 Even though God’s people are unfaithful to him, he would still be faithful to them. In the book of Judges there are twelve individuals who are considered saviors. They save their own tribes or a number of tribes from these invaders or tribes that were not intended to be in control of Canaan. However, the Israelites allowed them to control those sections of Canaan. Those that delivered the Israelites were called Judges, meaning they delivered the Israelites from their oppressors. In Judges Chapter 16, Samson is an example of a person who was initially faithful and obeyed God and was a savior and deliverer of Israel. He became unfaithful to God in disobedience but then God is faithful to him. Samson’s strength was symbolized by his hair, however, a prostitute was sent to seduce him in order to find out what actually gave him strength. In disobedience to God, Samson conveys his secret to her which leads her to cut off his hair and causes him to be taken as a prisoner and blinded. This was a result of Samson’s punishment on the account of his obedience to God. Because Samson is weakened from the lost of his strength, his tribe is left without defense and they’re oppressed. After so many years of his repentance and confession of sin, he is now placed in a situation to deliver the Israelites from their oppressors. With God’s strength provided to him, Samson was able to destroy the leadership...
