In order to comprehend the topic in which the reader wishes to learn about, they must select certain resources with pertinent information on the subject. There are many different ways to go about writing a document. “The Compound” written by S.A. Bodeen was written to persuade the reader to learn more about nuclear winters. The book leads the reader on a journey through the point of view of the resource, the author’s purpose, and the conflict created in the text. In the non-fiction resource, the editors at Britannica wrote “The basic cause of nuclear winter, as hypothesized by researchers, would be the numerous and immense fireballs caused by exploding nuclear warheads.”
In both resources, the authors had to make a decision, therefore determining whether or not the reader will be intrigued throughout the story based upon the writing…show more content… In the non-fiction resource, the author informed the person of information on the topic of nuclear winters. People were able to understand the information, therefore granting the writer success as an author because the purpose was to inform. Choosing this topic to write about was more difficult for the purpose because the writer can only have so much personality throughout a nonfiction document.
Bodeen decided a strong purpose to carry throughout the entire article was to inform. She had other purposes, but she would give nonfiction points inside of a fiction book. An example of this is telling the most obvious places for a nuclear war to take place, the most common nuclear weapons, and the side effects of witnessing a nuclear bomb. S.A. Bodeen was able to force the person to learn while they read a fiction thriller. As a reader, people can assume Bodeen’s purpose wasn’t necessarily to inform, but placed the information as an undertone or as a side
