Cloud computing is using a network of remote servers hosted on the internet to store, manage and process data, rather than a local server. This will allow us not only to continue to build our business but to put us on top as leading our competitors in this word of technology. I have done some extensive research on the new technologies available and cloud computing is where I recommend we place our IT dollars in the coming year. I know our budget is limited and I have taken that into consideration. It can be very costly to take on this type of project, however, I have found many...

...COLLABORATIVE SUMMARY ON SLA GROUP 4 2013-10 1) What is the comic about? This is the story of a man who travels to a foreign country, probably in the Middle East. He does not know neither its language nor its culture. When he gets off the train he finds an elderly man who removes his hat and says an expression in his native language. At first, the traveler does not correspond to the gesture and assumes it is a greeting. As he is heading to his hotel he runs into people along the way who repeat the same expression and he always answers back with a friendly smile and a very gentle gesture with his hat. Eventually, he arrives at the hotel and sees the receptionist is very upset because he has just hurt his finger. To his surprise, the man in pain is expressing his discomfort by using the same words the traveler had assumed to be polite. 2) What is the connection between the story, negotiation of meanings and communicative competence? The main connection between these aspects is the fact that the story depicts the perfect example of what happens when there is no communicative competence, misinterpretation of intercultural context meanings and lack of negotiation. The connection among these three issues is pivotal on the one hand to consider as stated by Safriyani, R. (2009) “communicative competence is the ability to interact well with others. Communication takes place in an infinite variety of situations, and success in a particular role depends on one’s...

...Essay Single parenthood 1. Summary. The article "survey dispels myth of failing single parents" from 2006 is written by Denis Campbell. the article is about three single mothers who are raising their children alone which they believe are better for both the parent and for the child. The women in the text tell us about a few benefits from being a sole parent in charge, like they become stronger as a person because they are forced to take a decision themselves, based solely on their experience. They also mention that they can provide their children a with harmonious and safe upbringing and they don't have to divide their attention between their children and their partners. The article also says that single parent families have been associated with a lot of negative things and thoughts, and people always have been prejudiced against single parents, but this article shows some of the positive aspects of being a single parent. 2. Outline. In the three texts; "Mothers without men", "survey dispels myth of failing single parents" and "single moms by choice or circumstance - required reading", we can find similarities like positive/negative sides of single parenthood. One of the positive views we are introduced to is that if you are a woman, you do not have to wait for the perfect man to get pregnant, you just go to a sperm bank and look for a man that has got the traits you are after, and in that way your child would not witness a parent leaving, unless the mother dies of course. Another...

...to learn a second language makes a significant difference in language learning. However, results indicate that this is not entirely true in all cases since there are further factors that affect successful second language acquisition achievement such as language exposure and motivation. Consequently, if there is not enough language exposure, this might prevent the learners from succeeding in learning the language. Clearly, those factors, motivation and exposure, seem to play a more important role in the learning process than the age factor and therefore it is extremely important to implement motivation and provide sufficient language exposure to the learner right from the start of the learning journey regardless of how old the learner is. ...GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN PAKISTAN TELECOMMUNICATION AUTHORITY HEADQUARTERS F-5/1, ISLAMABAD http://www.pta.gov.pk Executive Summary 1. Background In the post deregulation era it was felt that the simplification of Class Value Added Services has become essential. Internationally, several regimes exist – from extremely liberal to the other extreme. In Pakistan, in the past we had been following the pattern of issuing a license for every value added service. On the other hand there existed some services that had gone un-noticed. 2. Analysis Internationally, the world is now moving towards convergence. It means convergence of Technologies, Convergence of Services and Convergence of Regulations. It was felt that the simplification and bundling of VALUE ADDED SERVICES will make the life easier for the consumers, the Service Providers and for the Regulator. Simplification of Value Added Services will assist in lowering of the bundled services’ cost. This in turn can have a rippling effect on the proliferation of Broadband in Pakistan. It was felt that the spread of Broadband would not happen until the regulator paves the way for more services under a single umbrella. This will in turn enable more bandwidth requirements by the consumers, more bandwidth provisioning by the Service providers and more opportunities for the incumbent and new Infrastructure providers. All class value added licensed and registered services can only be provided through mutual interconnects and marketing...

...attentional condition have a differential effect on adult second language reading comprehension? The quantitative analysis revealed no significant difference in comprehension among all five groups. To explicate the findings, the quantitative and qualitative data and analyses are discussed with regard to the issues of modality, depth or level of processing, and research methodology. Keywords simultaneous attention; levels of processing; form vs. meaning; hybrid design; input processing; The Primacy of Meaning Principle; think-aloud protocols There are several theoretical models in second language acquisition (SLA) that have posited an important role for attention in adult second/foreign language (L2) development (e.g., Robinson, 1995; Schmidt, 1990, 2001; Tomlin & Villa 1994; VanPatten, 1994, 2004). Empirical support for the beneficial role of attention has been provided by several SLA studies in strands of research directly or indirectly premised on the role...

...ubiquitous and inexhaustible on-demand IT resources accessible through the Internet. Practically every new Internet-based service from Gmail [1] to Amazon Web Services [2] to Microsoft Online Services [3] to even Facebook [4] have been labeled “cloud” offerings, either officially or externally. Although cloud computing has garnered significant interest, factors such as unclear terminology, non-existent product “paper launches”, and opportunistic marketing have led to a significant lack of clarity surrounding discussions of cloud computing technology and products. The need for clarity is well-recognized within the industry [5] and by industry observers [6]. Perhaps more importantly, due to the relative infancy of the industry, currently-available product offerings are not standardized. Neither providers nor potential consumers really know what a “good” cloud computing product offering should look like and what classes of products are appropriate. Consequently, products are not easily comparable. The scope of various product offerings differ and overlap in complicated ways – for example, Amazon’s EC2 service [7] and Google’s App Engine [8] partially overlap in scope and applicability. EC2 is more flexible but also lower-level, while App Engine subsumes some functionality in Amazon Web Services suite of offerings [2] external to EC2. On balance, App Engine incorporates that functionality at the expense of being less general-purpose and more...

...University, Indonesia yuningsihlegiman@gmail.com ABSTRACT Studies on captions and subtitles in EFL learning gave positive effects on comprehension and vocabulary acquisition (Chung, 1996, Neurnan & Koskinen, 1992; Price, 1983; Vanderplank, 1988, 1993). Using song in ELT was highly impressive and motivating (Murphey, 1992; Lied, 2000). This study was designed to investigate the use of English-subtitled K-Pop MV in exploring students’ extensive reading ability. In this case study, five students, four girls and one boy, were selected. To collect the data, document analysis and an in-depth interview were conducted. The findings showed in comprehending the song, the students’ interpretations were still shallow and relying heavily on summary of narrative with very low-level inference. Meanwhile in vocabulary acquisition, it helped their better understanding wider range vocabulary, either in English or Korean. In addition, using K-Pop for learning English was more interesting and enjoyable, it is also motivating. Overall, using English-subtitle on K-Pop can be used as an alternative way to enliven extensive reading. Keywords: Subtitle, comprehension, extensive reading, interpretation, inference. INTRODUCTION The Korean wave—”hallyu” in Korean—refers to a surge in the international visibility of Korean culture, beginning in East Asia in the 1990s and continuing more recently in the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, and parts of Europe (Ravina, 2008, p. 1).
