When my parents moved to Winnipeg, they developed a positive idea of what the city is like. Caring, kind, and helpful. Exactly how Sadie Phoenix-Lavoie believes it to be. Currently 21 years old, Sadie attends the University of Winnipeg and is in her 4th year of Indigenous studies and Political Science, as well as working as a mentor at Wahbung Abinoonjiian Inc. (Children of Tomorrow). She first moved to Winnipeg when she was 15-years-old in 2009. In brief segments of Sadie’s article, she touches on her past happenings when she first moved to Winnipeg, like becoming comfortable with the change in her living environment, memories with family, and getting involved in her new found community.
