...[No Subject] Me to Fatema SunelSent Nowadays, people are getting more & more involved in Music & for them, it has become a part of their daily life. Their mind has become so saddled with tension, & tempo of life is so fast that they seem to accept high blood pressure & nervous breakdown as the unavoidable side effects of modern civilization. It is a pity that they do not pause to think the adverse effects of music on their physical & mental health. I have endeavored to present in this booklet the scientific & spiritual points of views on music & dance etc. These observations have been quoted from various books of Persian, Urdu & English languages. I am very grateful to Maulana Seyyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi, the Chief Missionary of the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania for editing & scrutinizing this effort of mine. I hope this booklet will help the readers in understanding the philosophy of the rule of Islam which forbids music. A.H. Sherriff 1/5/1983 W H A T IS M U S I C ? Music, according to the New National Dictionary, means "Art of combining sounds or sequences of notes into harmonious patterns pleasing to the ear & satisfying to the emotions; melody" According to the Great Encyclopedic Dictionary, this combining of sounds is "for reproduction by the voice or various kinds of musical instruments in rhythmic, melodious & harmonious form so as to express thought or feeling & affect the emotion;" & the word is also used for the "sound so produced," & for 'written...

...The case of Crown Insurance Services brings to the light the many issues now associated with the changing business environment, the questions that arise whether current existing law regrading residence and source is no longer fitting and whether its application may be conducive for cases where misappropriation is intentional. This paper considers some of the questionable reasoning used today by the courts in determining residence and source on companies incorporated overseas. The case of Crown is not dissimilar to that of Malayan Shipping Co, whereby an Australian resident (Mr Sleigh) the majority shareholder of a taxpayer company incorporated overseas, was considered to be the managing director and agent who alone could decide upon the entering of contracts by the company in Australia. The company was found to derive its income and have tax residency in Australia “despite the directors being non-resident and meeting outside Australia” due to central management and control being held by an Australian resident. Similarly in Crown several indicators of absolute authority held by an Australian resident were presented, including “All of the proposals were prepared by Mr. Pattenden on his lap top” and “Mr. Pattenden prepared a group insurance proposal and prepared and issued a policy”, these statements seemingly present Mr. Pattenden as being ‘the brains behind operation’. The commissioner pursued this as it had been in Malayan shipping, however several factors prevented the...

...------------------------------------------------- How does the role of a priest within medieval Christianity compare to the role of an imam in medieval Islam? In order to fully compare the roles of a medieval priest and a medieval imam, it is necessary to fully analyse their purpose as a leader within their religion, their influence upon the people of that religion in terms of their relationship with God and also to acknowledge their irreligious purpose in medieval life. Between the two, it is perhaps easy to argue that the role of a medieval priest is far greater than that of a medieval imam, but before this conclusion is jumped to, it is important to ensure both roles are looked at anachronistically due to the ever-changing nature of religion. In order to answer this question it is important to view the roles of a priest and an imam, not individually but in regard to the other to find a true comparison. In terms of looking at a medieval priest, perhaps one of the most important things for contemporaries is that essentially, the priest was representative of god, hence in a time of deep-seated spiritualism, his role was vital to any community, and placed him and his clergy amongst the first estate, the most important in society. This idea of a representation of God comes form his specific acts that he could partake in, particularly the role to ‘absolve men and women of their sins for the act of confession’. Obviously this was incredibly important, and if we consider this...

...Literature review : KOLLAT, ENGEL, & BLACKWEL, (1970) investigated the Current Problems in Consumer Behavior. In this study they compared the history of most disciplines; the studied of consumer behavior in its infancy, dating back less than 50 years. Moreover, a significant percentage of their research had occurred during the last decade. Brosekhan & Velayutham examined the Consumer Buying Behaviour. They found that consumer has become essentail. Consumers are the kings of markets. Without consumers no business organization can run. All the activities of the business concerns end with consumers and consumer satisfaction. Sadiq investigated the Economic Impact of Retailing in Pakistan. He found that the saturation of Retail markets in the developed countries and the growth potential of Asian markets had been enticing the big retailing giants to enter the business markets of countries like Pakistan whose retail potential expected to be $42 billion. Hanley & Leahy, (2008) examined the effectiveness of relationship marketing strategies used by department stores. Their primary objective of the study was to discover the extent to which customers use and influenced by relationship marketing strategies. ...General Mills (ASGM), Gujranwala, Pakistan was faced with the difficult choice of whether or not to reemploy the two weavers who had left his company earlier. Fawad also realised that he had to take some long term measures to attract, retain and motivate weavers, to optimise the benefit from the already installed automatic looms. COMPANY BACKGROUND At the time of the partition of India in 1947, Khawaja Mohammed Sadiq, Fawad’s grandfather (see Exhibit 1) emigrated from Amritsar, India, to Gujranwala, Pakistan. The newly formed Government of Pakistan gave him some shares in the Okara Textile Mills, in lieu of his looms left at Amritsar. In 1951, because of disagreements with the other partners, Sadiq left Okara Textile Mills. He formed Ashraf Silk and General Mills at Gujranwala, in collaboration with his son, Khawaja Mohammed Kalim, (Fawad’s father). In 1951 ASGM had only one main competitor. ASGM produced silk-velvet cloth for products like bed-covers, prayer rugs, and suiting for men and women. The product mix changed with time to accommodate changes in demand. Sadiq or Kalim would either modify the existing looms or replace them with new ones to meet the market requirements. Before 1960 all the looms at ASGM were manually powered (handlooms), with the operator himself pushing the shuttle through the warp. In 1960 ASGM imported four power looms from Japan and started producing ‘shaneel’ (a kind of velvet). In 1993, Khawaja Zarar Kalim joined ASGM after completing his...

...Human beings are in need of the friendship and company of others at all times of their lives from birth until death. The inherent social nature of human beings make them obliged to live in society with the company of people and to avail themselves of the assistance and support of friends. Thus a dear friend is one who never leaves you alone or feeling helpless in this world, because they are there for you under any circumstance, regardless of the sacrifices required. Imam Ali (AS) considers true friends to be a great asset in this world as well as in the Hereafter and says: “Procure friends for yourselves from amongst your brethren-in-faith because they are a great asset in this world as well as in the next world”. In another remark, he considered sincere friends to be as good as the most important part of the human body and says: “One who loses a noble-hearted friend who befriended him for the sake of Allah is like one who loses one of the main organs of his body”. An essential point on friendship is that it is only valuable when it is for the sake of Allah, and the only companion who is reliable, is the one whose friendship is based on taking you nearer to Allah (SWT). As opposed to friendships which are based on things that are finite, such as seeking to fulfil ephemeral pleasures, obtaining wealth, position or beauty. Hence, it is vital to keep in mind that these transient things that will eventually depart from you, will never equate to an everlasting friendship. The...

...Corporate Governance in Financial Services UMACTF-15-M Corporate Financial Strategy – 2014 Student number- 07975484 Word Count- 2,021 Introduction Dictum Meum Pactum- My word is my bond. Simple, powerful, trustworthy. Unfortunately, the world we live in is not simple, those that hold power (and those that do not) are not always trustworthy. Moral hazard is rife in everyday decisions we make, when multimillion amounts are on the line this does not simply fade. In fact, the temptation to break moral code is as high as it will ever be. As much as we would like to trust those in control to be acting in our best interest, we definitely feel better when there are safeguards in place to ensure we are protected. These safeguards are the beginning of the notion of corporate governance, “The process of supervision and control intended to ensure that the company’s management acts in accordance with the interests of shareholders” Parkinson (1993). Over the course of this essay I will investigate and explain how corporate governance has failed and how this failure is arguably at fault for, or at least contributed to, the recent financial crisis in the UK. Critically assessing the pitfalls in corporate governance I will present a reasonable case for where responsibility lies for resolving previous problems and from this move to suggest potential areas for improvement that may limit the potential for future failure. What has happened? We have experienced financial...
