A. Attention getter: The biggest witch hunt in American history took place 322 years ago in Salem, Massachusetts where twenty innocent people were convicted and executed for practicing the Devil’s magic.
B. Relevance: My immediate audience should care about my topic because it is informative about the biggest witch hunt in American history. It affects them by having the ability to go home having more knowledge about the Salem Witch Trials. They can relate to my topic by being aware of what happened in 1692.

II. Body
A. Point #1: Several centuries ago, religion played an important role in everyday life.
1. Many practicing Christians, or of other religions believed that the Devil gave certain people known as witches the power to harm others in return for their loyalty (Blumberg, 2007).
-From the early 1300’s to the late 1600’s, a “witchcraft craze” took place in Europe where many innocent people were convicted of witch craft and executed (Blumberg, 2007)
-In 1689, English rulers William and Mary started a war with France in the upstate American Colonies known as “King Williams War,” sending refugees into the county of Essex and Salem Village in the Massachusetts Bay County (Blumberg, 2007).
2. History plays an important role and with today’s society we tend to forget how important history can be, and most people are aware of the Salem Witch Trials, but they don’t know what happened before the trials took place.
3. In Europe, tens of thousands innocent people-mostly women, were objectified and executed for practicing the Devil’s magic.
