The Salem Witch Trials and The Holocaust were two distinct events. They happened in different times but still have many similarities. Both of these events were a horrific event in our history, had a terrible ruler, and had things wrong with society and the townspeople.

Both the Salem Witch Trials and The Holocaust were catastrophic events that happened in our history. Many things happened in these two “extreme, tragic events.” (Alex, paragraph 1) The Salem Witch Trials are “great examples of innocent people getting scapegoated for things they were not responsible for.” (wikiAnswers Community, slide 6) In the “Crucible”, these women and men were accused of witchery when they were completely innocent. Both had to do with “mass hysteria”. (Gregory Poulon, p 1) For example, in the “Crucible”, a group of girls blamed other women of being witches. They would scream at the sights of the women and make up stories on the spot to make them look like witches. In the Holocaust, Jews were seen as “demons of Earth”. (Gregory Poulon, p 1) Another great example of our “societies allowing certain atrocities to occur without being checked or stopped by anyone for a certain period of time.” (wikiAnswers Community, slide 6) During both of the situations no one even tried to stop what was happening. In the “Crucible”, some people cheered and smiled when these women and men were getting hung. Other society and townspeople problems were that “the Jews trusted the Nazis” (Alex, paragraph 2-3 ) to not be against them and they trusted them not to kill them. In the “Crucible”, Elizabeth was one of the people that trusted the court as she said, “Aye, it is a proper court they have now...the deputy governor promise hangin’ if they’ll not confess.” In both, the ones that were blamed were “outsiders.” (Caitlin Mayo, p 3) The Jews had “different beliefs and views than Hitler so he wanted them dead.” (Caitlin Mayo, p 3) The people in the “Crucible” that were accused were because “they are not typical townspeople.” (Caitlin Mayo, p 3) When Elizabeth was accused she said she was not a “Goody Good that …show more content…
