...Research Paper 781 SALESFORCE COMPENSATION PLANS IN ENVIRONMENTS WITH ASYMMETRIC INFORMATION Rajiv Lal* and Richard Staelin** October, 1984 * Graduate Shool of Business, Stanford University, Stanford, California 94305 Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina 27706 ** The authors wish to thank Professors Milton Harris, Joseph Hotz, Jim Noel, and Tom Paifrey for their several helpful comments and suggestions. ABSTRACT In this paper, we present a theory of salesforce compensation plans to explain the type of plans implemented by IBM and St. Regis Paper where the members of the salesforce are provided an opportunity to choose a compensation scheme from a menu of contracts offered by the firm~We model this interaction in an agency-theory framework, as in Basu, Lal, Srinivasan and Staelin (1984), but relax the assumptions of information symmetry and salesforce homogeneity to demonstrate the optimality of such compensation plans. We also show that even when these assumptions are relaxed there are situations where the plans characterized by Basu, Lal, Srinivasan and Staelin (1984) are still optimal. 1. Introduction Most salesforce compeiisation plans include not only a salary, but also some form of remuneration (e.g., comrni~~sions) based on the output of the salesperson. Recently, Basu, Lal, Srinivasan, and Staelin (1984), hereafter referred to as BLSS, proposed a model which provided insights into why the proportion of salary to total...

...company founded in 1976 by Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs (Sanford, 2011). It is a corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Over the years Apple has made drastic strides. A little bit more of an introduction into why Apple and factors covered would have better prepared the reader. Globalization Globalization definitely has evolved into an essential factor for big business organizations to exceed above the competitors. In the 1970’s the creation of an electronic device known to us now as a computer, would have come out of a garage to being a media mogul company that is worth millions. Globalization had a huge impact to Apple’s income. Financial statements display that Apple’s worldwide sales take the lead in technology sales and are ongoing to increase. This shows they have exceptional global management an example of that is, Apple had been attempting to market their products in Korea with the merchandise for many years. Only now are they able to have a product in their market that is acceptable to the MPEG-1 Layer 3 advances. So availability of technology is a factor for consideration for the plan as it allows or limits growth in a region? This allowed them to open up Apple stores in the Korean country. Part of the strategy was that Apple found the best areas in various countries to start new stores and has grown a worldwide organization. A generally accepted generic definition of the law is a body of rules of action or conduct prescribed by controlling authority and having legal binding force… the common characteristic of the current state of law is that it creates duties, obligations, and rights that reflect accepted views of a given society.” (Melvin, "INTRODUCTION TO LAW," 2011) Laws are important for both society and businesses because they are reflections of the moral beliefs that people live up to. Law function to maintain social control and protects public order by resolving disputes in a peaceful manner. Constitutional laws outline what governments can and cannot do. Fundamentally, much of American law is derived from English legal doctrines that came with the English settlers of the colonies. Modern law in the United States regulating businesses and individuals is generally a combination of constitutional law, statutory law, common law, and administrative (regulatory) law at the federal, state, and local levels. ...Marking-to-Market: Panacea or Pandora’s Box? Guillaume Plantin London Business School Haresh Sapra University of Chicago GSB Hyun Song Shin Princeton University August 13, 2007 Abstract Financial institutions have been at the forefront of the debate on the controversial shift in international standards from historical cost accounting to mark-to-market accounting. We show that the trade—o s at stake in this debate are far from one-sided. While the historical cost regime leads to some ine ciencies, marking to market may lead to other types of ine ciencies by injecting artificial risk that degrades the information value of prices, and induces sub—optimal real decisions. We construct a framework that can weigh the pros and cons. We find that the damage done by marking to market is greatest when claims are (i) long—lived, (ii) illiquid, and (iii) senior. These are precisely the attributes of the key balance sheet items of banks and insurance companies. Our results therefore shed light on why banks and insurance companies have been the most vocal opponents of the shift to marking to market. We are grateful to both our editor, Ray Ball, for his advice and comments and to an anonymous referee for many useful comments. We also thank participants at the 2007 Journal of Accounting Research conference as well as participants in various seminars, and, in particular, Doug Diamond, Ron Dye, Xavier Freixas, Milt Harris, Charles Goodhart, Raghu Rajan, Rafael Repullo...

As shown in the “To-be” diagram, the quick customer responsiveness and effectively resource utilization can be achieved using business process management. When customer places an order, the value is created. Then the order is received by the sales department via customer database and decided to approve or not. If approved, the order becomes an effective order sent to the next process by internal system. If not, it becomes a dead one and is terminated at the same time. Through inventory level, the production department can check the availability of the raw materials at once. If it is insufficient, the production department can purchase from the external supplier by online trade and shorten the preparation time of materials. If there is enough on hand, they can assemble and send the finished goods to the logistic team. Meanwhile, they send another copy of order form to the accounting department in the integrated system by several inputs. On monitoring the inventory database, they can...

...INTRODUCTION: There is a general belief that packaging of Nigerian food products lacks the quality that can make them competitive in the local and global markets. Although some of the locally made products are considered to be of high quality and unique, but it is still very unfortunate that they are not accepted as good packaged food products, to enable them to be sold successfully in the local and global markets. Most of the packaging materials used are not environmentally-friendly, they are not designed properly while others get their food products spoilt, as a result of poor packaging system, leading to huge capital losses to manufacturers of such products, not to talk of the huge environmental problems caused by non-biodegradable materials used. The problem of poor packaging of locally made food products took a centre stage, after the Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authourity Decree 1992 was established by the Nigerian government to assist the export of Made-in-Nigeria products to the global market. It was then discovered that most of the exported food products to the international market could not be sold because of some of the above mentioned issues. Many efforts have been made by the various stakeholders in the packaging and export sector ever since to solve the poor packaging problem of locally made food products. In spite of all these efforts, the problem still persists. There are many factors that may contribute to poor or substandard packaging. Factors such as the...
