...Michael Johnsons book, A Typology of Domestic Violence: Intimate Terrorism, Violent Resistance, and Situational Couple Violence provides an in-depth analysis of intimate partner violence, broken up into four different categories in hopes to clarify past research that has created misleading, problematic and contradictory findings. The four different types of intimate partner violence, according to Johnson, are intimate terrorism, violent resistance, situational couple violence, and mutual violent control. Johnson argues that intimate partner violence is not a unitary phenomenon and that understanding intimate partner violence as having different types will help those in the field of domestic violence to diminish overgeneralizations and provide better support for women experiencing intimate partner violence. Johnson formulates his book with an initial overview of the four different types of intimate partner violence and how determining which type of intimate partner violence, either intimate terrorism, violent resistance, situational couple violence, or mutual violent control, will help researchers move forward with their findings and the various conclusions that have surfaced over the past thirty years. Johnson dedicates three chapters of his book, one to intimate terrorism, and another to violent resistance, and a third to situational couple violence, claiming that these are the most prevalent forms of intimate partner violence found today. Johnson does not dedicate a chapter...

...possible for the United States to become a single state and a unified nation, which finally ended slavery and thus expanded the applicable ideals that led to the declaration of independence. Historians argue that the civil war remains to be a critical event in the United States history; this is because this war was able to end the animosity caused by the inevitable climax of conflicts and sectional tensions. This paper will discuss the evolution of the modern US society from the inception of the constitution through the civil war and reconstruction. United States constitution remains to be the oldest constitution in the world and since its inception in 1787; it has played a critical role in the development of the modern US society (Sammis, 1997). Historians argue that the United States constitution has helped in providing a remarkable degree of political stability in the US, a country known for its social diversity. According to law experts, since the inception of the US constitution it has been possible to silence matters that seem to be sensitive in regards to the modern way of living. Moreover, the US constitution enabled the sanctions of the slavery, which remained to be the cause of the animosity before the civil war. On the other hand, before the US civil war, the then US President Abraham Lincoln had began to formulate a plan that would ensure the restoration of the confederate states. In December 1863 through the proclamation of amnesty and reconstruction, Abraham...

The company also says Facebook quickly pushed through the deal to purchase Oculus in 2014 and didn’t perform adequate due diligence, ignoring a legal letter sent from Zenimax threatening litigation. The lawsuit pits two companies against one another: Oculus VR, a company owned by Facebook, and ZeniMax Media, a company that owns Richardson-based video game developer id Software. ZeniMax, which...

Although things seem small we I do not know the impact without measurement. Although any change may not be significant at first it is definitely a step in the right direction. Another key driver is the idea of leaving behind something better, I want to know that I did my best to try and preserve the beautiful earth and eliminate unnecessary chemicals and pollutants so future generations can live happily. Who is your business planning team? Who should be involved in your planning process? As of right now my business planning team is my group, which consist of Taylor, Sammi, and Alex. During out meeting we have bounced ideas off one another and really believe that they can be very beneficial and influential down the road when some more serious planning takes place. I will probably also have my Dad and Grandpa involved since I am trying to make our family business more sustainable and they are obviously very knowledgeable about the budget and equipment where I lack some knowledge. How will you use your business plan? I am planning on presenting my business plan and ideas to my Dad when it is complete. My plan is to make his business more sustainable in hopes he will seriously consider some of my ideas, and put some of them (or all of them) into practice. ...baking soda. The reaction was instantaneous, the mixture had bubbled up and over the edge of the flask spilling into the red tub. For the second test they had put in two spoonfuls of baking soda instead of one, but still adding the same amount of vinegar. It reacted in a blink of an eye, filling the flask with fizz. The last test consisted of three spoonfuls of baking soda and still 80 ml of vinegar. That time the explosion lasted longer than any of the others had. Riley Newman thought, “It was fun”. By the time everyone had finished with the experiments, the classroom smelt of vinegar and baking soda, which is not a great smell. So the girls cleaned up their mess. THey weren’t the only ones who had made a mess though. According to Sammi Rogers she also, “...made mess”. After that had been done, the groups needed to record any last observations. Kayla, Allison, and Bailey found that the more baking soda you add to the vinegar the larger the explosion. It was a great day in Mrs.Barrett”s science class. ...

...Hello Fellow Students, My name is Michael Bertleff Sr., you can call me Michael. I was born September 4, 1975. I am the middle son of three boys. I have 2 other brothers, Donald the oldest & Kristoffer the youngest. My younger brother & I are 2 years apart in age but our birthdays are on the same day, strange I know I hear it often. I was raised mainly by my mother for many years, so as you may have imagined my mother had it a little rough raising 3 boys on her own. I was always the joker of the 3, but I always knew one day that I would be something special some way somehow. I love football the Bengals for instance are my team of choice. I also like baseball & basketball. I grew up in Girard, Ohio until I was a freshmen in high school, then I moved to Youngstown, Ohio. When I received my high school diploma in 1994 I made my mother proud because the main rule in her house was to get our diploma. I went straight into the working man’s world after high school. When I made my first pay check I thought, I can do this forever & always get everything I ever wanted when I wanted it as long as I work hard to get it. As the years went by, which they did very quickly I realized life was moving very quickly & faster than I ever imagined. I met a fantastic girl Shannon in 1997, we were so happy together & as fast as we met we were finding out that she was pregnant with our first child Selena, who is (13). ...The traditional mafia, portrayed in movies like the Godfather and Goodfellas, has been broken down due to vicious Federal prosecution. It still exists, but its certainly not as powerful as it once was. However, different groups have formed that are much more ruthless. These groups are more willing to harm innocents rather than going after those who wronged them. The Italian mafia has been a prominent theme in the media for decades. Movies and shows that are usually the most talked about are The Godfather, Goodfellas, and the Sopranos. The media's portrayal of the mafia has created stereotypes for Italians that are socially accepted in American culture.Movies and shows like these create terrible stereotypes for Italian because these gangster lifestyles are glorified. Sadly, most Italians living in America today embrace these stereotypes instead of setting them right. These shows today often make a mockery about what the mafia actually stands for. These shows are often scripted so they can get more views. Some mafia tv portrayals are :Mob Wives, Amish Mafia, Mafia City, The Sopranos, and Boardwalk Empire. In todays American society stereotyping of most cultures is seen greatly in the media. Media such as: MTV's reality TV shows “Jersey Shore”, HBO series the “Sopranos”, VH1’s reality show “Mob Wives”, the movie “Goodfellas” and, “The Godfather” are some examples of when Americans began to misjudge Italians. Most of these movies and TV shows reflect badly on Italian culture. Going...

...she was accused by Abigail Williams, she won’t hang on account of being pregnant. Elizabeth and I associate a few common character traits for we both are quite caring, very faithful and really meek women. Elizabeth Proctor and I share the character trait of being very caring. Elizabeth Proctor showed she was very caring when she was asked to talk to her husband John about confessing to witchcraft. At first he wasn’t to sure if she was real or not so when he reached out to touch her she allowed him to lay his hand on hers. She let out a small laugh and when he’d ask about the boys or what went on outside she’d be gentle and she’d keep herself calm and answer gently as not to worry him to greatly. I show my own caring nature when my sister sammi asks me to watch her boys. I cook them whatever they’d like to eat, ramen, mac and cheese or anything else they’d like. Then i help them get ready for bed i’ll put the baby down in his bed and then i’ll play a movie downstairs for the older two boys. I also care for my cousin’s two dogs and our own two, I wake up early and prepare their dog food and add fish oil to help keep their coats shiny. I also help my aunt when she doesn’t feel well and when her daughters are busy with work and other things. Being faithful is another character trait Elizabeth and I have in common. Elizabeth showed that she is faithful to John Proctor when she lied for him, she was known never to lie so she chose him over her own morals and beliefs. I’m faithful to...

...BSHS441: ADVOCACY AND MEDIATION Project-Annotated Outline and Bibliography Veterans and Homelessness: What programs are being put in place to help. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have brought renewed attention to the needs of veterans, including the needs of homeless veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) reported that in FY2008 it assessed more than 1,500 veterans who served in the Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom theater of operations for participation in its Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program. Both male and female veterans have been over represented in the homeless population, and as the number of veterans increases due to these conflicts, there is concern that the number of homeless veterans could rise commensurately. The current economic downturn also has raised concerns that homelessness could increase among all groups, including veterans. Congress has created numerous programs that serve homeless veterans specifically, almost all of which are funded through the Veterans Health Administration. These programs provide health care and rehabilitation services for homeless veterans (the Health Care for Homeless Veterans and Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans programs), employment assistance (Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program and Compensated Work Therapy program), transitional housing (Grant and Per Diem program) as well as other supportive services. The VA also works with the Department of Housing and Urban Development...

There are addictions to drugs, alcohol, food and multiple others that are too numerous to list. However, within this century we have seen the rise of video game addiction among the young, the old, male and female. Video game addiction is related to other underlying disorders such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, other anxiety disorders, and impulse control disorders (Oggins, 2012). The American Medical Association has considered adding this addiction to their manual of mental disorders (Northrup, 2014). There have been several studies on the addiction to video gaming. These studies correlate the negative effects of excessive time spent playing video games with the associated risks that result from this behavior. Research shows that video gaming has become one of the new addictions of the 21st Century due to the loss of interpersonal social interaction, negative effects on job performance, and the debilitating effects on marriages or relationships. Video game addiction is a direct result of the great leaps that we have made in technology. With the invention of the personal computer and following the inception of the internet this has spawned a new addiction that now plagues...
