I am a 4-H member in La Precido 4-H club in Clark City. We are one of 1,000 4-H groups across California that are planning local community service projects over the next two years celebrating the centennial anniversary of 4-H in California. We call this our Revolution of Responsibility. 4-H develops young people who are uniquely prepared to step up to the challenges of a complex, changing world. It encourages our members to become responsible, engaged citizens working toward creating important impacts that address issues facing our community both today and into the future. Through 4-H, we design and lead projects related to science, engineering, technology, health and nutrition which involve hundreds of families in our county.

Currently, our group is planning a project designed to help young children discover the joy and science of growing their own food. We expect to accomplish this goal by building a community garden where children from Walter Reed School can learn about growing food and gardening. Walter Reed has many children from the Community Housing Project who have never had the opportunity to work in a garden. For them, science is primarily learned from books. We will work with the kids to raise crops that can be used to supplement their lunches with healthy food choices. Additionally, excess crops will be canned by our local 4-H canning project and donated to local food pantries.

We would like to invite (Name of Business) to support our efforts to help young people learn science, eat more healthfully, and make good nutritional choices. We expect that (over XXX children) will participate in our garden project which can be a model for other schools. The total cost of our project is $2,500. To date we have raised over $1,000 to make this vision come true.
