Throughout my undergraduate career, I have found that my passion lies in studying human nature and society, and understanding what we can do to make improvements on behalf of all humans. I studied both political science and social sciences as my undergraduate degrees, which allowed me to learn numerous perspectives on what changes we can make to benefit humanity as a whole, as well as what methods would best allow us to implement those changes. I feel that there is no program more suitable for me to continue this passion than the program on International Development at the University of Edinburgh. It would provide me with the global scope of study I wish to partake in, as well as allow me to bring my diverse academic background and further …show more content…
I believe that by educating and empowering half of the population, which has been underserved at this point, could be the key to greater development for the human race. There have been many studies showing that there is a direct link between the improved conditions of women and the overall success of nations socially, politically, and economically. My interest in this area stems from my involvement in an organization called She’s the First. It was a group I joined in university which sought to raise money to send young girls to school in areas where they would normally not have had the opportunity. In addition, we spent a great deal of our meetings discussing issues which affect women across the world, from low maternal health and child marriages, to gender inequality and scarce job opportunities. It opened my eyes to the importance of this topic, and motivated me to keep the topic in my mind as I continued through my studies. Although this area is my primary interest, all forms of development are closely tied together, and therefore I would benefit from having experience and education in a broader discussion of global development. I have many objectives in undertaking this postgraduate study, but primarily I am seeking to attain a perspective different than the American one I have been educated in for the majority of my

Sample For College Admission Essay Sample

...From an early age, I have been intrigued with the way businesses operate: how cross-functional plans are laid out, how business market themselves to customers, asking myself why different products are priced differently? My enthusiasm for Business grew from a visit in my teenage years to my father's plastic factory. I was curious about the amount of effort that was put into running a factory, wondering how it was possible to manage so many workers and run a business that involved such intricate machinery. Even as a teenager, I sought out my curiosity regarding business, first on television by watching The Apprentice, then later through research on the web. Commerce in all forms fascinated me, but management in particular was a category all to itself. To me, studying business was a great delight that has only grown with time. As a matter of fact, it was this continued interest that brought me years later to selecting the University of Michigan as the most appropriate choice for my university experience. The College of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts places priority on providing an all-rounded education, and this is what I look for in an undergraduate program. The varied education provided at the university will be beneficial for me at every aspect of my life. By being required to take classes in subjects other than the major, the University of Michigan recognizes the fast pace at which the world is developing, and prepares the students to enter this ever-changing society...

Mba Admission Essay Sample

...Wandering through the vibrant, bustling streets of New York City, I cannot help but to look around and see what an incredible impact the ever-advancing businesses and technology has on the world. As part of my childhood dream, thriving in a city, New York City, that is the world leader in international finance and business, inspired me to set out on the journey to the U.S. three years ago. With a longstanding interest in business, I have chosen to pursue Accounting as an undergrad major because I consider it a tool to break into the business world. For me the most interesting part of Accounting is the problem solving aspect. It is intriguing that everything has order and method, and each piece is placed carefully and related back to its context. You need to analyze every aspect before making a just decision. In addition, the human behavior of accounting fascinates me almost as much as the logic does. Through intensive group projects, and participation in case competitions, I realized accounting is not only about numbers, but also about teamwork and cooperation. A combination of all these factors attracted me to this subject and encourages me to go further. Completing the CPA exam and joining the auditing Department of a public accounting firm upon graduation is my plan. In the long term, my goal is to serve as a CFO of a large and well-known corporation to create and expand its value. Meanwhile, I see myself initiating and achieving goals as I grow both as an individual and within...

Crna Admission Essay Sample

...My decision to submit my application to Penn Nursing’s CRNA program is a based on several important factors. My expedition into healthcare started with the goal to become an anesthetist. The goal has remained the same, however the motivation behind obtaining that goal has evolved to strengthen my reasoning for striving to practice anesthesia. Progression towards becoming a CRNA has afforded me the opportunity to cultivate my own personal attributes, inside and outside of the clinical realm, as well as help critically ill patients. Furthermore, Penn’s CRNA program is steeped in recognition thus allowing me to fulfill my desire to be part of a program on the forefront of nurse anesthesia education. Contributing to Penn’s CRNA program through hard work and dedication while together bringing comfort to countless patients is my next career goal. So far, what I have learned along the way to become a CRNA has molded my motivation to provide anesthesia. Initially I was drawn to anesthesia based on pure fascination. I envisioned a career at the head of the bed, working as part of a team of highly skilled individuals coming together to innovate and overcome difficult challenges. It was not until my career progressed and I started clinical rotation in nursing school when I truly realized the incredible potential I had to positively impact patient lives. This altruistic sense I captivated, while working directly with patients, intertwined with my goal to be in a profession that offered flexibility...

Musical Theater Admission Essay Sample

...Imagine sitting down to watch a play. It becomes clear very quickly that the actors have put in the time rehearsing scenes and memorizing lines. But there is so much more going on that the audience does not see. There are people scurrying around in quiet darkness so as not to be seen or heard from the house. There are people in the wings changing costumes and make up, and others in the booth controlling lights and sound. This is the magic of being in theatre. My proposed concentration in the Creative Arts Diploma would be musical theater. I have been doing theater for a big part of my life, and I feel it has impacted me as a person. Studying musical theater is important to me because I feel as I can grow as a learner and as a performer by taking CAP. The CAP program is intriguing to me and I hope to improve my musical theater talent, and I also feel by being in CAP, there are some skills that will help me in school life. For example, project management. A production is basically a business project. You have groups of people making one team and working to successfully accomplish a task on time, on a budget in such a way that you feel a sense of accomplishment once the final product is performed. Another example is hard work. I remember creating a tree for the Secret Garden and we didn’t know how to do it at first but we made an amazing life-like tree that emerged from the stage. My teammates and I cut out each and every leaf and individually hot-glued them to the branches of...

Studying at Howard University is of great interest to me because it offers a tailored music major, the Bachelor of Music with an Elective Studies in Business Jazz Voice Minor. Howard University’s unique degree program will allow me to focus on being a singer or performer, while including the business aspects of those roles. Howard University has a long and proud legacy of successful professionals in the fine arts. I have grown up within a relatively musical family and I have been influenced and impacted by music greatly. I have been singing since I was a young child. My earliest memories include me singing to my mom’s favorite artists in the car as young as two years old. My mother, grandmother and grandfather have sung in their church choirs for most of their lives. My father is also a talented singer and had the opportunity to become a professional recording artist but decided to take a different route. Since a young girl, I have dreamt about living a life filled with music in some capacity and I find it difficult to consider a life following a different career choice. I take extreme pride in my academics but singing is the way I truly love to express myself and emotions.Through all four years of high school, I took chorus classes, such as Concert Choir, Treble Chorale and Symphonic Choir for two years. During my junior year the Symphonic Choir had won a silver medal at the...

Once the writers are lucid about the technique of writing an essay and how to write an essay outline, the next step that they face up to is how to move toward a particular research paper topic. And what type of writing works best? Students often complain about a certain type of essay they have been assigned with. Help with Writing

...that people will take about thirty seconds to a minute to read, so you barely need to have structure -- just flow your sentences together in a natural voice and you'll get to 250 words before you know it. By looking at samples and prolonging your preparation period (aka, procrastinating), you're spending way more time than you need to on an essay that is ephemeral, at best. Further, by spending so much time thinking about the thing (instead of just doing it), you're building it up to be a big, challenging hurdle instead of the straightforward task it is. Dwelling leads to more procrastination and its attendant guilt, which ignites a self-stoking cycle that's difficult to escape. 250 words is doable in 10 minutes; in the time you're likely to spend preparing for those ten minutes, you could probably write as many as a dozen 250 word essays, from which you could afterwards pick the best. ...Myocardial Infarction Mortality 1.0 Introduction In the UK, about 838,000 men and 394,000 women have had a myocardial infarction (MI) at some point in their lives, (NICE clinical guideline 48, 2007). The latest statistics from the British Heart Foundation state that approximately 227,000 people suffer from an acute MI (heart attack) each year (British Heart Foundation Statistics Website). To put this figure in to perspective this equates to one person every 2 minutes. Mortality is at approximately 30% which is 68,100 deaths in the UK per year. The National Service Framework (NSF) for Coronary Heart disease (CHD) is a 10-year programme published by the Department of Health in 2000 and has set key standards for the prevention and treatment of CHD. Access to the right treatment for those who suffer from an AMI, is essential to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve clinical outcomes. People with diabetes mellitus constitute a group of patients who have a higher risk of having an MI and also a poorer prognosis post infarction. The higher death and complication rates appear to be multifactorial but a significant finding in the Diabetes Mellitus Insulin-Glucose Infusion in Acute Myocardial Infarction (DIGAMI) Trial showed to reduce one year mortality by 30% (Malberg et al., 1995). It’s recommended 1.1 Primary Objective To determine the relationship between HbA1c and prognosis of patients in East Lancashire having a myocardial infarction. 1.2 Secondary Objectives To assess...

Developing Your Brand

...For a moment, consider who the audience is for your MBA application.  You will be spending countless hours writing a magnum opus that may be read by only one individual—or a select few at most. These people have many applications that they need to go through every day, and even the most meticulous individuals may at times miss some parts of your essays. That’s why you need to make things as clear and easy to read as possible for the admissions committee team by making sure that they can’t miss who you are and what you can bring to an incoming MBA class. The best business school applications feature four or five aspects of the candidate’s character and experiences that anyone reading the essays will identify. These traits blend to create “Brand You.” We all understand the power and influence that brands have. Businesses spend a lot of money to make sure you know how they bring value and what they stand for. While there are many more subtle parts to their full corporate identities and many tones to their product/service offerings, companies need to ensure that purchasers have a complete understanding of a limited set of characteristics. As an example, this is list of traits for a few reputable companies: 1. Low prices every day of the week, large selection, one-stop store 2. Fun place to be, socially responsible, respect for employees 3. Creative design, simple, cool 4. Cheeky, young, influencing lifestyles 5. Fun, family, fantasy Even from only these...

Child Care Center Market Research

...Pre-School venture in Lower Manhattan Introduction The price of private education in Manhattan is exponentially increasing. Over the past 10 years, the median price of first grade in the city has gone up 48%, adjusted for inflation, compared with a 35% increase nationally (NYTimes.com, 1/29/2012). Clearly there is a supply and demand crisis, with more students than seats available. Therefore, our team decided to research the possibility of launching a new pre-school in lower Manhattan. We believe there is a desirable opportunity to open a customized pre-school that serves both our own interests and parents’ current unmet needs. To give some color, below are three recent excerpts concerning the topic: “I think the nursery school admissions process is a war zone. It’s parent against parent, it’s toddler versus toddler… Parents are crazy competitive…It’s about getting in, fitting in, it’s about belonging. That’s why people sweat it.” (Parent from “Nursery University” documentary, 2007) “In an entrepreneurial city where even volatile commodities like real estate eventually find their equilibrium, the desire for private school seats has outpaced supply for many years, in some cases by an order of magnitude. “ (nytimes.com, 2010). “When the public school Pre-K selections were announced, we were denied acceptance to ALL 10 schools…out of 12 friends with kids hoping to enter Pre-K in the Fall of 2011, not ONE of them got in. You see, simply by not having a sibling already...
