1. In your own words, discuss the differences between discrete and continuous random variables because the statistical analysis of each type of variable is different. Discrete Variable – This type of variable is only in the form of a particular value, and does not consider any values that may fall in between each particular value. The example that I would provide here would be that I have two children. I do not have 2.8 children. Continuous Random Variable - This type of variable can take on any value that is available on a range. My example of this type of variable would be the measure of temperature. The temperature can be measured in tenths, such as 86.9 degrees, and not the whole number of 87 degrees. A person’s individual height or weight could also be considered as a continuous random variable. 2. Roll a die 20 times and record the event in Excel

Explain the meaning of your random variables. The random variables for this experiment are 1, 2, and 3,4,5,6. These random variables include the countable number of possible outcomes that can be achieved as part of the experiment above. Do you believe that the results of your experiment are discrete or continuous? I believe that the results of the experiment are discrete. My reasoning for this is that the discrete probability distribution is inclusive of each possible value of the random variable. The numbers on the die cannot be further broken down and remain 1 through 6. Is your experiment a probability distribution? In other words, are all the conditions of a probability distribution satisfied? Yes, the experiment is a probability distribution as each of the two conditions of a probability distribution have been satisfied. The first being that the sum of the probabilities was between 0 and 1 while the second condition of the random variable taking only values between zero and one have also been satisfied. Is your experiment a binomial probability distribution? Explain if all conditions are met or not. The experiment is not a binomial probability distribution as one of the conditions of such a distribution is that there can only be two possible outcomes (Success and failure). Rolling the six sided die provides six possible outcomes, neither of which can be considered success or failure, which eliminates the possibility of this experiment being considered a binomial property distribution. TYPES OF SAMPLING TECHNIQUES: Cluster sampling Cluster sampling is a sampling technique where the entire population is divided into groups, or clusters and a random sample of these clusters are selected. All observations in the selected clusters are included in the sample. Cluster sampling is typically used when the researcher cannot get a complete list of the members of a population they wish to study but can get a complete list of groups or 'clusters' of the population. A sample consists of one or two elements selected from a population. To select a good sample we have to clearly define the population from which we will be drawing a sample. Failure to do so can result in inaccurate conclusions. In probability sampling each element has an equal chance of inclusion. The simplest technique for probability samples is Simple Random Sampling.
