...Case: Wendy’s and the Finger-in-the-Chili In March 2005, Anna Ayala, a Las Vegas resident visiting San Jose, California, went to Wendy’s with her family. She ordered a bowl of Beef Chili. She said she bit into a spoon of chili and “suddenly I chewed something that’s kind of hard, crunch. I spit it out.” She said that’s when she realized the crunchy item was a 1 and half inch human finger well manicured nail. She hired a lawyer and sued. Denny Lynch, Senior VP of communication for Wendy’s international faced a crisis that innocent food based companies fear. When a customer commits a vicious act that cost other’s to turn away from the restaurant, or product. Lynch received a call that night from Bob Bertini, Wendy’s director of Communications, explaining what happened. Lynch had to act immediately. Lynch and Bertini constantly dealt with the media for the next 60 days. At first Santa Clara county health dept. had sympathy for Ms. Ayala and said she was ill and distraught so emotionally upset causing her to vomit. The Health Dept. released photos of the finger to media. The national news coverage intensified. The health dept. stated that there was no public health risk. Wendy’s then needed to place a plan into action, First Wendy’s regional management team set up a makeshift control room in a franchise office in San Jose, and the police were involved, as was the coroner. Wendy’s crisis management strategy centered on four areas: 1. Conducting due diligence to establish...

...Cisco Systems Uses Its Culture for Competitive Advantage Case Study 1. What are the observable artifacts, espoused values, and basic assumptions associated with Cisco’s culture? Explain. The above terms are also known as the three fundamental layers of organizational culture, each varying in outward visibility and resistance to change an each level influences another level. Observable artifacts are the most visible and also cosist of the physical manifestation of an organization’s culture (Kreitner and Kinicki,2010, pg.65). An example of this when the CEO John Chambers uses just three words to describe the benefits of the San Jose networking giant’s management system: “speed, skill, and flexibility.” This is relates a published list of values by Cisco. Another example is with Manny Rivelo, a senior vice president at Cisco Systems, that 70% of his compensation is based on the council’s ability to meet revenue targets and collaborate. As to espoused values, they represent the explicitly stated values and norms that are preferred by an organization. In Cisco’s case, it was Chambers’ idea originated by a loss of $2.2 billion loss in 2001, which involves grouping executives into cross-functional teams. This concept would lead to faster decision making. Basic assumptions are unobservable and represent the core of organizational culture. I feel that Rivelo’s one quote sums of the basic assumptin for Cisco, “I’m on a litany of them-three councils, maybe six boards, and five working...

...From: Alexandra Madzharyan Subject: Housing investments in San Francisco According to your request about housing investments in Bay area, San Francisco I have conducted a research and found interesting facts. Housing market in Bay area can be characterized as very dynamic. ”The increase in housing prices was caused by the strict government restrictions which started in the 1970's, affecting construction in coastal areas” (EBSCO HOST, January 21, 2008) The San Francisco Bay Area real estate market has been growing rapidly over the past six years. Ever since the recession in 2008, the population is growing each year and more people are starting families. However, the prices are also increasing rapidly. ”Every time the market crashes, the consensus becomes that real estate won’t recover for decades or even “in our lifetime.” But the economy mends, the population grows, people start families, inflation builds up over the years, and repressed demand of those who want to own their own homes builds up. In the early eighties, mid-nineties and in 2012, after about 4 years of a recessionary housing market, this repressed demand jumps back in (or “explodes” might be a good description) and prices start to rise again. It’s not unusual for a big surge in values to occur in the first couple years after a recovery begins, as has occurred recently.” (SFGate, October 1, 2013) This is the right time to decide to buy a house in the San Francisco Bay Area. The prices have been increasing over...

...The Economic Disaster of a 7.8+ Earthquake on The San Francisco Bay Area Christina Sotelo Geology 6 – Jefferis- Nilsen November 21, 2012 Over the many decades the economic standing of the United States, specifically California, had fluctuated due to many unforeseen factors. One huge factor that cannot be anticipated, and often causes drastic effects on the economy, are geologic disasters. The state of California is notorious for having earthquakes that shake up the state quite often and leave the affected area with a substantial amount of damage. The 1906 earthquake of San Francisco was the largest geologic disaster known to the nation at the time it occured. Destroying about 80% of the city, this earthquake also caused an enormous amount of fires to break out throughout the city. Not only did the state of California have to build up funds to reconstruct the city, but also other states and nations provided economic relief to help rebuild the ninth largest city in the United States. As one of the most metropolitan areas in the West Coast of the US, San Francisco had a humongous task at hand to make this once financial, trade, and cultural center flourish once again. The magnitude of the earthquake caused widespread destruction due to the geologic setting of San Francisco, but also the destruction of buildings was due to the makeshift quality of the construction of the city. If there were to be a repeat of the quake today, it could possibly be more devastating than the first...

...Microsoft account Joseph Jackson Westwood College Designing a Network Microsoft account Joseph Jackson Westwood College Designing a Network Determining the networking requirements the designing of a network can be a difficult situation. Whether its data transfer rules that determine the number of channels needed and the priorities to be used. An alternate real issue is the most extreme size of data that can be sent and received leads to the need for segmentation at the sending end and reassembly at the receiving end. Networking design must reflect the objectives, attributes, and approaches of the associations in which they work. A decently planned network can help adjust these targets. At the point when legitimately executed, the network base can improve application accessibility and permit the savvy utilization of existing network assets. The primary step is to comprehend your networking necessities. (Cisco Systems, Inc.) There are two essential objectives when setting up a networking design and having the capacity to execute the design into a live environment. The principal objective is to have application accessibility. The system conveys application information between machines. On the off chance that the applications are not accessible to system clients, the system is not doing its occupying. Which can make trouble managing getting to applications over the system. The second of the essential objectives is the Cost of possession. The Information system (IS) plans...

...Nicholas Richards 23/09/2015 Prin. of Man. Shark Tank paper BuggyBeds When viewing videos for this paper I saw some pretty great and just some not so great products. But one stood out to me from all the others. During the show for this product, two women presents the Sharks with a product called BuggyBeds. This product was presented as an early detector for bed bugs around the house. These monitors attract bed bugs to the trap and keep them trapped using a special formulated glue. As stated by both women pitching their product, the glue is not poisonous and is not harmful to people, which is a must if little kids are around. The monitors themselves are very small and easy to use. All one has to do is unpack the monitor and then place it around the area/furniture one thinks might contain bed bugs, preferable under the desired object. I found it interesting while watching this bit show when one of the women informed the Sharks that there really is not a lot of early detection systems for bed bugs. For them to produce a two-pack it just costs about ~ $1.60 – 1.75, and then they may market the product for about $6.99. I choose this product that will sell/win because of just how big a problem bed bugs are for a huge number of people and organizations. One fact stated by the women pitching this product is that a female bed bug can produce upwards to 500 more bed bugs. That is frightening, without anyway to deal with bed bugs they would just keep appearing. To me, I feel like...

...tourist attraction. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[3] The cost for such constant building has been estimated at about US $5.5 million[4] (if paid in 1922; this would be equivalent to over $75 million in 2012).[5] The Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size and utter lack of any master building plan. According to popular belief, Winchester thought the house was haunted by the ghosts of the people who fell victim to Winchester rifles, and that only continuous construction would appease them. It is located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, California.[6] As of 2013, the house is under private ownership by Winchester Mystery House, LLC, a limited liability company owned by partners Edna May Raney; Gerard Raney; Ray Farris II; Sandra Farris; and M. Valerie Bovone. It is not operated by the County of Santa Clara or the U.S. National Park Service. Inspiration Although this is disputed, popular belief holds that a Boston medium told Winchester that she had to leave her home in New Haven and travel West, where she must "build a home for yourself and for the spirits who have fallen from this terrible weapon, too. You must never stop building the house. If you continue building, you will live forever. But if you stop, then you will die." Winchester left her New Haven home...
