...What is the Impact of Stress on the Immune Response to Breast Cancer? My report covers the study of the “Impact of Stress on Immune Response of Breast Cancer Women After Mastectomy” conducted by the American Journal of Nursing Science. The study was conducted to examine whether stress influences immune responses in patients following breast cancer diagnosis and surgery. 60 women diagnosed with breast cancer agreed to be part of the study, they were between the ages of 45-55 years old and were scheduled to have a mastectomy. Before beginning their adjuvant therapy, all subjects completed an evaluation involving (1) Stress Assessment Scale (2) Immune Response Assessment Questionnaire. They took a 60-mL blood sample from each patient and subjected it many test including a panel of natural killer (NK) cell and T-lymphocyte assays. They then recorded personal data such as age, sex, level of education, occupation, marital status, monthly income, and their family situation to test the contribution of psychological stress in predicting immune function. Women who undergo chronic stress, such as the diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer, often experience adjustment difficulties and biologic effects. This stress can affect the immune system, possibly reducing the ability to resist disease progression and metastatic spread. As stated in the American Journal of Nursing Science “The immune system is important to cancer women in...

Sometime in January in the city of Mosul, thirteen teenage boys were slaughtered because of the soccer match they were trying to watching on tv. By the way, Mosul is Iraq's second largest city which was captured by Isis in June, 2014. I bet it was an absolute shame that the boys’ parents and loved ones couldn't even claim the bodies because of the fear they had for their own lives. It was a Friday, when Isis decided to set off four suicide bombs in two different mosques, muslim place of worship, that killed more than one-hundred Shiites and also wounding hundreds more. All of this happened in brief moments in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, inside of al-Sabin Square which is near Yemen's Presidential...

...Extensive Reading: Why? and How? Timothy Bell timothy [at] hsc.kuniv.edu.kw Kuwait University ------------------------------------------------- Abstract An extensive reading program was established for elementary level language learners at the British Council Language Center in Sanaa, Yemen. Research evidence for the use of such programs in EFL/ESL contexts is presented, emphasizing the benefits of this type of input for students' English language learning and skills development. Practical advice is then offered to teachers worldwide on ways to encourage learners to engage in a focused and motivating reading program with the potential to lead students along a path to independence and resourcefulness in their reading and language learning. ------------------------------------------------- Introduction: The Reading Program An extensive reading program was established at the British Council Language Center in Sanaa, Yemen. An elementary level class of government employees (age range 17-42) was exposed to a regime of graded readers, which was integrated into normal classroom teaching. Students followed a class reader, had access to a class library of graded readers, and had classes in the British Council library, which gave them access to a collection of 2000 titles. Questionnaires were used to examine students' reading interests, habits and attitudes, both prior to, and following the program. The class library contained 141 titles in the published readers of some major publishers...

...Change Complexity The nature of change and management of change The core conditions of social entities such as enterprises, industries, national and regional economies, but also families and personal networks, are often characterized by “dynamics”, “turbulence”, “transformation "or “discontinuity”. Change serves as an umbrella term for all these far-reaching, significant and sometimes dramatic transitions. Change as patterned and predictable vs. change as complex and unpredictable Some scholars assume change to be regular and stable with an identifiable cause-effect relationship. Such a view of change is adopted by physical sciences. On other hand Change is thought to be dynamic and complex in nature. It functions as non-linear feedback system with no clearly identifiable and predictable cause and effect relationship (Harigopal, 2001). Change and future events thus can neither be predicted nor be controlled with certainty as it continually evolves as a result of interactions between various factors. Such a view of change is adopted by social sciences Change Complexity Three formal features capture the essence of change: Complexity, Omnipresence, and Prominence Complexity Change goes along with specific features of complexity that differentiate this species of complexity from complexity as a generic feature of management. The specific accumulation of complexity represents a major challenge to both targets and managers of change. The causes of complexity in change initiatives...

...the Kolmogorov–Smirnov goodness-of-fit test. Textile fabrics are highly anisotropic and so their mechanical properties including tensile strengths are function of direction. Hearle and Stevenson (1963) in their study on the anisotropy of nonwoven fabrics have concluded that different patterns of anisotropy of tensile properties have been found in nonwoven fabrics made by different types of nonwoven fabrics. It has been shown that these patterns can be explained by the orientation of the fibres in the web and by the extent to which they follow a curved path. The differences in the tensile strengths of hydroentangled nonwovens in the machine direction and cross directions were also reported by other researchers like Mohamed et al., (1978), Sanaa, (2003), Pourdeyhimi et al., (1996a & 1996b) who attributed the difference to the orientation of the fibres in the direction of material flow in the preparation process preceding the hydroentanglement operation. Seo et al, (1993) in his study on modelling of the mechanical properties of woven fabrics noted a similarity in the failure zones of fabrics in a displacement controlled test where the final failure is preceded by numerous isolated yarn failures leading to a complete collapse of the fabric structure which is also defined by the fabric geometry. Ridruejo et al., (2012) investigated the mechanical behaviour of a commercially available nonwoven fabric made of polypropylene under in-plane biaxial loading was studied by means of a homogenization...

...Explore the ways different poets respond to the experiences of relationship in their poems. The poem "Nettles" by Vernon Scannel is about the narrator showing his thoughts and feelings when his son fell in a bed of nettles. The poem shows us that their relationship was strong and that they were close. The poet uses a metaphors to share his thoughts and feelings. An example of a metaphor is when the poet compares the nettles to be "green spears." The words "green spears" makes me think the nettle are like weapons that are razor-sharp. The use of colour imagery here with the "green" isn't used for pain. The colour green links with environment in this instance it is nature that has hurt his son. Another example of a metaphor is when he compares the nettles like soldiers dying in a army " fallen dead". This suggests that he is angry and upset because the nettles hurt his son. Also this suggests that he wants revenge by killing the nettles. Moreover, it suggests that he has killed the nettles and the nettles are thrashed! The poet describes the nettles like "nettle bed". The word "bed" suggests that the bed is comfy. The word bed is usually associated with soft, relaxing and warm. The word "nettle" is associate with sharp. The words " nettle bed" suggest that the poet son has fallen into a nettle bed and hurt himself Moreover, another example of a metaphor is when he compares the nettles like soldiers because in the text it says "fallen dead." This suggests that...

INEPO ÇEVRE PROJE OLİMPİYADI FATİH KOLEJİ (FATIH COLLEGE) ISTANBUL, TURKEY 1-4 JUNE 2008 Avril Rodiel Bries Quezon City Science High School (Regional Science High School for NCR) REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES- CUMHURIYET FİLİPİNLER School Year 2007-2008 Mr. Noel Pablo Diaz Research Adviser Abstract: On average, 435,000 metric tons of pineapples are produced annually in the Philippines, which is one of the country’s leading commercial fruit products. However, there are a lot of unused excess parts of the pineapple, notably the peelings, which are considered as waste and contribute to the country’s garbage problem. There is a global oil crisis, as the demand for petroleum increases each year while our supplies are rapidly being depleted. Bioethanol, a principle biofuel, is a natural alternative to gasoline. One solution to both dilemmas is to produce bioethanol from pineapple plant peelings. This will be made possible by extracting the glucose content of the peelings and fermenting it through the process of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) using the yeast sample. Peel samples, coming...
