...Assignment Instructions Unit: 4 Instructions: This week's Assignment consists of reading a scenario about Sandwich Blitz, Inc., and responding to four questions. Dalman and Lei have discussed two possible avenues to grow and expand Sandwich Blitz, Inc. One possible strategy would be to franchise locations. Another strategy would be to secure venture capital to finance an internal expansion by opening more company-owned shops. Dalman feels that he just doesn’t have time to investigate these options because he is spending an increasing amount of his time assisting the location managers. Lei noted that two of the location managers had exhibited a lot of skill in the management of their locations and perhaps a new position could be added to coordinate with the location managers. This would free Dalman to work on these larger issues. After reading the scenario above and your assigned readings in the textbook, paying particular attention to the section on authority, respond to the following questions: (Please number your responses 1 – 4 according to the four questions) 1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow? 2. Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position? 3. Who within the company should make these decisions? 4. List the levels of authority (management) that Sandwich Blitz, Inc. would have if the new position is created. To help...

In this Assignment on creating a business SWOT analysis for Sandwich Blitz, you will engage in developing the following professional competencies: • Problem solving and critical thinking by analyzing qualitative data in decision making. Click on the Video icon in the course to sit in on an operational meeting Dalman and Lei are having about the company. Dalman and Lei have recently discussed the future of Sandwich Blitz. Lei has noted the emergence of two new franchise operations that offer food and beverages similar to that of Sandwich Blitz. Although these have not yet entered the market, she feels that this is only a matter of time. The company has the resources to open two additional locations if good places can be found. The recent economic downturn has adversely affected the occupancy rates in the larger office parks that have historically been good locations for their shops. They could always look at other cities but have never considered this. Dalman and Lei are wondering if they expand again, should it be a small expansion or should they try something on a larger scale. After reading the scenario above and the readings in the text for Unit 3 and completing the practice...

They have two great location mangers that have a lot of skills and are ready to move up in the company. Dalmon and Lei have to make time to investigate the two options of expanding their company. Dalmon and Lei have authority over their staff they give the location mangers authority over the stores to help run the store. I think if they can deglate thier task it will free up time for the CEOs to focus more on the expansion of the companies. 1 How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business grow? It will help the business grow because it will free some of the responsibilities that Dalmon and Lei are doing now that is conflating with them being able to focus on expanding the company and the growth of the company. 2 Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position? Yes I think that promoting within the company is a great idea because the location mangers have already been in the company and they have the knowledge of the company and skills. I think that if they build a build a senior team that's able to manage all the critical areas of the business it will help take the company to another level. These location managers have an excitement to make things happen and it will help them to grow and be motivated to be prepare for the new expanding...

...unit 4 Assignment Levels of Management 1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow? Creating a new position would help the business because it would take some of the pressure off the CEO and CFO. With the new position being between the CEO and location manager, the CEO can concentrate more on the company as a whole and not be stretched to handle many locations. The new position can handle the businesses directly without having to always interrupt Dalman. Dalman can focus more on what he needs to do in order to expand the business and make it better. 2. Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position? Promoting a manager that has already been with the company for a while would be a great idea. This person already knows how the company works and what it needs as far as locational needs go. A manager that has already been with the company knows its operations and what needs to be done where it comes to the different locations. Promoting someone who doesn’t know anything about the company would take more training which means Dalman and Lei would have to take time out to train the new person. They are already stretched for time and don’t have time to train an outsider. So to alleviate some of the extra training they would have to do, just promoting a manager within the company would be better. 3. Who within the company...

...Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company op yo The Master said, Govern the people by regulations, keep order among them by chastisements, and they will flee from you, and lose all self-respect. Govern them by moral force, keep order among them by ritual, and they will keep their self-respect and come to you of their own accord. — The Analects of Confucius tC James McBride, general manager of the new Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., faced the largest challenge of his successful career. A proven veteran of the luxury hotel chain’s march across Asia, McBride’s most recent assignment was as the general manager of the 248-room Ritz-Carlton in Kuala Lumpur. Opened in 1998, the hotel was named “Best Hotel in Asia-Pacific” in the eighth Business Traveler Asia/Pacific magazine Travel Awards Subscribers’ Survey and, for two consecutive years, “Best Business Hotel in Malaysia” by Business Asia and Bloomberg Television.1 As Nikheel Advani, food and beverage services director for the Washington hotel, noted: “James is excellent—we have opened many hotels together. In the place where you didn’t think that it had a chance, he made it the best hotel. That’s his talent. That’s what he can do really well. It’s for the entrepreneurial person who wants to get involved and who thinks they can make a difference.” Do No But this was a new situation, even for McBride. For the first time, The Ritz-Carlton was opening a hotel that was part of a multi-use facility. Owned by Millennium Partners...
