The thought that I will not be able to see you for years fills me with melancholy. I have been aching to see you for a while now, even though I have barely finished my first year here. I have been sent on a mission to convert the natives of the Sandwich Islands to Christianity, and boy do they need to be disciplined. They casually run around half naked, marry their siblings, and do countless other absurd practices. Some of the natives immediately converted without hesitance, but others were reluctant to convert to Christianity. Despite these obstacles, I believe that one day, we missionaries will have convinced all of these natives to convert to Christianity.
I cannot believe the absurd things they do. At their religious ceremonies, the men and women display their top portion as if it were normal, and dance with grass and leaves dangling from their waist in a skirt! They also do inappropriate dancing and call it “storytelling”, even though it is just an obscenity that must be stopped. We must convince these natives that these are terrible sins and they will be punished if they continue to do this. I must teach them all that it’s wrong to show skin other than what is necessary. However, I have managed to convinced some natives to stop doing this dancing and start wearing more clothes, and hopefully their example will affect others.

We have gotten the government to put aside land and money for our schools. We have gotten rid of traditional native genealogy, and replaced it with more important core subjects. This will help the natives to be able to read and write in English, so they can read the bible. They might even donate to us so we can build more Christian churches! These schools will be open to natives and Americans. This will also shape up the natives because they will be in the presence of

Fast Food Globalization

...Jeremy Klee International Business 02W & CRW Research Paper 9/25/13 Globalization has been like an epidemic spreading across the business world in the last few decades. There is no denying that the true pioneers of spreading their business internationally have been the fast food industry. No other industry has had the perfect combination of staying true to its business roots but at the same time adapting themselves to the different countries they operate in better than the fast food industry. No matter where you go in the world you can get a Big Mac and it will taste exactly the same as it does here, but there are also many different options that customers in the United States would have no familiarity with. As will be obvious throughout this paper McDonalds is really the king of adapting its business to the various cultures of the countries they operate in. The top ten fast food chains with revenue made outside the United States from ten thru one are Dairy Queen, Dunkin Donuts, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza, Subway, Pizza Hut, Burger King, KFC, and McDonalds at number one with revenue total of 44 billion (Huffington Post Mar 12 2013). Some say that fast food chains that adapt themselves too much to other cultures are losing what made their businesses successful in the first place the idea that people in these for foreign countries eat at these restaurants to get a taste of American life not to eat the same thing they eat every day. That is really not the point...

Boxer, Naor- Panther ID 1228549 “FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management- HFT4413 RVC/RPC” July 16th 2015 Abstract In this paper I talk about how a young man from Israel who really grew up with very little worked his way up in the restaurant industry and I go into detail on his many struggles and his many triumphs. I speak about how he worked his way up from line cook to restaurant owner, and what he is doing now in his own restaurant after working many years in other people’s restaurants. I speak about what he is doing to become successful and how he was able to turn his knowledge of the restaurant industry into a flourishing business. I go deep into the understanding of a kosher restaurant and how there is certain guidelines in the kosher food industry. I speak about his competitors and what he can do to overcome his short comings. Mikes burgers is a unique blend of fast food and fine dining and I go into that as well. The restaurant industry is changing. As the world speeds up, people have less and less time to sit down and enjoy a meal with their families. What’s more, they want the food they do order to be cheap and quickly prepared. At the same time, there are dozens of restaurants opening all of the time, each looking for a competitive advantage over the other. Restaurants post deals on Twitter, and reach new potential customers on Facebook. They advertise on...

...the Indian Ocean. And each year, perhaps unwittingly, each one of us adds to plastic to the heap. Plastic makes it into our oceans in a variety of ways. About twenty percent of it comes from goods lost from boats: i.e. accidental loss of fishing tackle and other recreational gear, massive shipping containers carrying millions of plastic items washed overboard during severe storms; litter from pleasure boats, or illegal dumping of unwanted goods. Beachgoer’s debris is also a contributor. The other eighty percent is swept in from land. Just as Nonpoint Source Pollution from fertilizers, detergents, and pesticides find their way into our waters, so too are plastic items washing into our blue oceans. A discarded bottle cap or an empty sandwich bag thoughtlessly left along the side of the road will eventually be blown or kicked or washed into a storm drain, which will then shoot it straight into the ocean. Transfer Pricing

...Abstract Most business enterprises seek to expand over time in order to survive and become profitable. Increased size often allows economies of scale in both production and distribution. Companies can develop new earning potential by expanding and add greater stability to earnings through diversification. Complex organizational structures help achieve business objectives such as increased profitability and reduced risks. Also, these complex structures allow the company to reduce its overall tax burden. One such strategy is discussed in this paper. Transfer pricing allows the company to price the inter-company transactions. Transfer pricing simplifies the accounting of transactions that take place between affiliated or related entities. Companies have freedom in valuing inter-company transactions. But, if strategically implemented, this strategy allows the company to save taxes and retain large amount of profits. Keywords: Transfer mispricing, tax-havens, Double Irish Dutch Arrangement Transfer Pricing Transfer pricing is the methodology used to set the prices for goods sold or services provided between related entities within an enterprise. Related entities are those which are under control of a single corporation and include branches and companies that are wholly or majority owned ultimately by the parent company. Generally, such a transfer price should be equal to the price which the entity would charge to an independent customer, an arm’s length customer. Such a price...

Case Study of Mcdonald's Environmental Strategy

...(CEMP), prepared this case under the guidance of Stuart Hart, director of CEMP and assistant professor of Corporate Strategy and Organizational Behavior at the U-M School of Business Administration, as the basis for class discussion rather than to illustrate either effective or ineffective handling of an adminstrative situation. This document may be used by either students or faculty for background information. Introduction Rooted in Ray Kroc’s founding principles of Quality, Service, Cleanliness & Value (Q.S.C.&V.), McDonald’s management has always believed in being a leader in issues that affect their customers. This philosophy is evident in McDonald’s involvement in various community projects regarding education, health care, medical research, and rehabilitation facilities. These activities help the corporation to extend their image beyond fun and entertainment into social responsibility. However, in the late 1980s, McDonald’s began to face criticism for its environmental policies, especially those surrounding polystyrene clamshell containers. In 1987, McDonald’s replaced CFCs, the blowing agent used in clamshell production, with weaker HCFC-22’s after facing public criticism that CFC usage was contributing to ozone depletion. But this change was not enough for many grass-roots environmental groups that, led by the Citizens Clearinghouse for Hazardous Waste (CCHW), united in establishing a “Ronald McToxic Campaign” consisting of restaurant picketers and an organized effort to...

...(Panera) based on two factors: 1) I like the food and overall ambiance – I think Panera uses ingredients that are fresher and of higher quality than more traditional fast food restaurants. I also like that customers can sit down to eat using proper silverware and plates rather than using plastic utensils eating off of paper wrappers and plastic forks. Many Panera locations also have a patio, for al fresco dining, a cozy fireplace, for the winter months, and a small section with upholstered chairs and sofas. 2) Panera offers free Wi-Fi – this was an important factor because I wanted to take notes during each visit without bringing attention to myself. Because Panera offers Wi-Fi, it is not unusual to see customers with laptops. Visits I visited three different Panera locations over the course of several weeks and spent approximately 2 hours at each location. Mcd Edf Abridged 08

...[pic] McDonald's and the Environmental Defense Fund: a case study of a green alliance Sharon Livesey Originally published in…The Journal of Business Communication • January 1999 In 1987, the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development, which had convened to address the global ecological crisis, produced Our Common Future (the Brundtland Report). This watershed event established the conceptual underpinnings for environmental politics and debate in the 1990s by reframing the problem of the natural environment as one of sustainable development. In the wake of this reframing, a new practice in environmental management emerged - that of green alliances or partnerships between business and ecology groups (Westley & Vredenburg, 1991, pp. 71-72). These alliances, considered one of the ten most significant trends in environmental management and the greening of industry (Gladwin, 1993, p. 46), appeared to signal a sea change in the way business, as well as environmentalists, could respond to the ecological impacts of firms' economic activities. Indeed, environmental partnerships offered both business and ecology groups the potential for a new rhetorical stance. Business communication scholarship has identified a variety of rhetorical strategies adopted by corporations in the face of environmental controversy: defensiveness and apologia (e.g., Ice, 1991; Tyler, 1992), competing information campaigns (e.g., Lange, 1993; Moore, 1993), or retreat (e.g., Seiter...

Their introduction of the "Speedee Service System" in 1948 furthered the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant that the White Castle hamburger chain had already put into practice more than two decades earlier. The original mascot of McDonald's was a man with a chef's hat on top of a hamburger shaped head whose name was "Speedee". Speedee was eventually replaced with Ronald McDonald by 1967 when the company first filed a U.S. trademark on a clown shaped man having puffed out costume legs. McDonald's first filed for a U.S. trademark on the name "McDonald's" on May 4, 1961, with the description "Drive-In Restaurant Services", which continues to be renewed through the end of December 2009.
