Case Study 1 1. What is the current situation faced by the company?

2. How was the research methodology determined?(pay attention to exhibit 3, exhibit 9 and 11)
The research methodology was determined by Bank’s four step process. The first step is conducting qualitative research to understand behaviors and needs of the target consumers. The second step is a consumer sessions where they use what they have “heard to develop and then gain reactions to different positioning ideas.” The third step they refine what they have learned into concepts and have consumers prioritize and improve them. The fourth step, concepts are put into monadic testing, which puts out a test score that is then used to decide whether or not the idea is profitable (If people are willing to buy it or not). 3. What were the research results? (hint: exhibit 4, 6, 9,11)
Research showed that that women are the primary people that purchase the Italian sausage, and they wanted easy to cook, homemade meals that would bring their families together. The consumers voted on several topics, and family connection was the most popular choice. Clever cooking was second, because they wanted it to have the high quality ingredients but could be prepared many different ways so she could add her own special touch. 4. 5. What alternative do you recommend and why? Specifically, a. What positioning should Banks recommend and why (Pros and cons of the two final concepts)? What brand name should the company use for the Italian sausage and why?
Banks should recommend Clever Cooking, because even though Family Connection had more first place votes, consumers that would “definitely buy” would more than likely choose the Clever Cooking choice. Also, Clever Cooking includes a “Family-approved” recipe, which would entertain those who liked the concept of Family Connection. Even though Vivio has not had much success in the sausage market, the name should be kept. It has a developing customer base and already has some loyal customers. Changing the name would lose the progress made thus far and could also lose any of the loyal customers in the process. b. What tactics should accompany the launch (packaging, flavor, etc.), given the brand name and positioning you recommended above? (hint: exhibit 2, 10)
Vivio should package their product with smaller stickers to show more of the product, but these stickers should pop. Stickers should show the Italian flag, an ingredient list on the side, and the back would offer a variety of recipes. There should not only be links offered, but patties as well as pre-cut kids shapes, like dinosaurs and animals. There would be pre-cooked and raw options for convenience too, along with a variety of flavors, ranging from Mac-n-cheese to Jalapeño to the standard mild, hot, and sweet to expose customers to options. This would allow for maximum exposure of the “Clever Cooking” concept, giving the customer a wide range to choose from and many different recipes to make.

Before we develop this topic, we need to understand what is the current situation of this firm. Saxonville is a company specialized in the production of sausages. They have branded products (which account for 95% of their revenues) and store-branded products. Within the branded products category, they have three types of products: bratwurst, breakfast sausage and Vivio sausage.
